Hoiskers visit the Gophers as 2 pt favorites

So, uh, Nebraska men's sports have been on a roll the last couple months, huh? Football team finishes 0-4, the basketball team goes tits up against real competition. This sucks. About the time you think it can't get worse, it gets worse.

See you Sunday.

Blame the refs all night but this team does not challenge or know how to finish. How many wide open 3s did we give up. Very hard to watch but yea, blame the refs for typical Hoiberg team play. How does one explain the first half when Nebraska was aggressive?
Okay, you thought the refs were good. Got it. The fouls were 22-9 favoring Minnesota and Tominaga got an offensive foul when he didn't touch the guy. We deserved to lose but the game was called poorly.

I agree. Whatā€™s Fred been here, six years now?? Tim Miles had better teams and better talent, and I thought he was still bad. Fred hasnā€™t improved this program at all. Hope Iā€™m wrong as the season is early, but I see the same results happening as usual.
Tim Miles looks like Coach K compared to Fred. Fred has the worst winning percentage of any coach in the wildly horrible 100+ year history of Nebraska basketball. It is truly stunning. Time to move on

Honestly, I'd be in favor of seeing what an interim coach could do with this bunch. Something needs to change.

Anyone still think playing a steaming pile of dog shit non-conference schedule is a great way to get ready for Big Ten play? Did it give NU's guys confidence and position them for The Big Dance?

But hey, who knew a steady stream of teams with +200 NET rankings last year would be so bad?
Yes. Its the only way we can win at all at any part of the season and gives husker fans the only hope theyre gonna get, ever.

Worst overall mens program in the nation.

Its mind boggling.

Hoiberg gets better talent then Miles did as far as depth, but Miles got alpha dog players and was a better in-game coach. It didnā€™t look great and Miles had to go, but we went backwards from there.

Well if Trev and Fred are giving you the product you want, raises and extensions for everyone!
I mean, I guess Trev is way ahead of you there as he's rewarded himself already. Kinda funny that the 2 major men's sports haven't won a game that matters since he gave himself the bag. What a scam.

They wont. Im jaded on bball and think we should give up.
Dont waste another dime on it, funnel all money to football program and paying players.

When you really sit down and think about the history of nebraska basketball, its hard to not think the program is cursed.

I understand this sentiment. Youre not wrong.
Hs done some good things though, and i agree with retaining fred although for unique reasons.

If he doesnt find a way to start paying football players more than his raise he should be fired.

I guess if there are still people who really think 20 wins automatically paves the way to an NCAA Tourney bid, Fred may be crazy like a fox. There's probably a great discussion about this on My Space or in the World Herald's Voice from the Grandstand.

I think thereā€™s talent, maybe not top 15 talent, but definitely field of 64 talent. And yetā€¦ šŸ˜•

If we strike out in NIL this year, Iā€™m right there with you.

I donā€™t even know why Iā€™m so salty after this loss; itā€™s not like I didnā€™t consider that a Hoiberg team would probably fold on the road in a Big Ten opener. I guess Iā€™m triggered by the way we lostā€”combined with the sudden vibe of heavy smoke but no fire coming from the football side, AGAIN. Just so, so tired of the excuses and apologetic shrugs for basketball and football being as bad as they are.

We are not cursed, no program, franchise or organization is cursed. You are (we are) a product of what you put into it. Weā€™ve never hired the right person who can solve the equation.

You can have a dominant basketball program in low population (predominantly white demographically) locationsā€¦ Lawrence, Ks. Bloomington, In. Omaha, NE. Iowa City, IA. Ames, IA. Madison, WI etcā€¦ All these programs have many NCAA tournament wins. Kansas and Indiana have won national championships, yet none of these programs have any sort of significant geographical or demographical advantage over UNL. They created their advantage by hiring the right people who had a plan and an unwavering will to succeed.

Sorry for the rant, I know some donā€™t use the cursed thing literally. But itā€™s a pet peeve of mine, I hate it and I hate its proliferation. Figuratively or literally.

They missed multiple out of bounds calls as well.

I don't know whether to admire you basketball fans or pity you.
A month of Stony Brook and Linwood and you fall out of your chair....again.
No effort in rebounding.....again. Creighton embarrasses us ....again. A head coach who seemingly has no passion......again. An AD who does a really great job of funding himself but does almost nothing of merit. His atrocious handling of the Scott Frost firing is hardly mentioned but should have put him on defcom 5. Nope, gets a raise. Just ignores basketball altogether. Won't be shocked if Hoiberg has an extension offered some time this season.

Fire Alfred and and hire the best high school basketball coach in Nebraska and hire him for $1,000,000 on a 3-year contract. No good basketball coach would have lost such a big lead to this shiddy Minnesota team.

Fire Fred.

I'm sticking with my original plan. If I watch any Husker hoops this season it will be primarily the women's team.

True but hoiberg still doesn't even have a true pg after this many years. I could go on a rant about the six game win streak last year and how it wasn't coaching but people have to see it by now. Fred was just gifted a pud schedule by our AD to get another year and he is still going to fail.

DEFCON. With an N. And 5 is actually the least intense level. Now you know!

It is almost unreal that NU had what most people/fans considered to be the perfect hires in FB and BB only for it to end up really bad.

I suppose with BB the season is still young and things could be "okay" the Big Ten sucks more than usual this year BUT when you just blew a huge lead to Minny, well that is not a good sign.

Flubbed that one. Shows you what I know about military readiness ratings.
Wargames (on, every Sunday afternoon somewhere) is a great movie.

Yes, there are definitely still opportunities to turn things around. But right now the NCAA Selection Committee sees an 0-2 team that got blown out from the opening tip at home and pissed away a big lead to a team that probably won't even make the NIT.

Hate to break it to the schedule-more-cupcakes crowd, but beating the consensus preseason last-place Pac-12 selection is not a big feather in NU's cap.

What really turns me off about NU basketball is the complete lack of passion that oozes from its pores.
If Hoiburg would fight for his team and throw a chair once in a while I'd have more interest. The most emotion he displays is standing up semi-abruptly and then looking like a mannequin. The impression to me is that he mentally checked out of being a GameDay coach.
He demands nothing from his players. Rebounding is almost all effort and I've never seen it displayed.
His boss demands nothing of him and he complies.
Nu basketball is just a giant slushball of not giving a shiite.

Fred Hoiberg is not an acceptable example to determine whether that strategy works or not. There are plenty of teams/coaches across different sports that have used that strategy and won championships.

Itā€™s just who he is and he also has a heart condition making him more susceptible to heart attacks. Itā€™s unfortunately a lot of what makes him a terrible coach

I was skeptical that Mast would translate to the B1G and heā€™s been dead silent while getting out worked on the boards and in scoring. This is a bad loss.
Mast was one against 3 on the boards. He can only do so much by himself

What the heck was the deal on that technical foul on us after our guy got undercut and knocked down on a drive. First they called a foul on MN and after their coach lost his mind they reviewed it, reversed it and assessed a technical to us. WTH? That was a 5-6 point swing right there. There were two flops by MN where Tominaga got called for a foul. In the second half he was boxing a bigger guy out and he went flying out of the paint like Shag had run into him. BS officiating. Yeah we were awful in the second half but MN got a LOT of help.

The last two games:

Against Creighton, NU has a 1 point lead with 9 minutes to go in the 1st half. Gets outscored by 30 over the next 29 minutes. Actually even worse, as CU built a 30 point lead over a 23 minute stretch.

Against MN, NU leads by 17 (17!!) under a minute to play in the first half. They were a 94.4% favorite to win at that point. They get outscored by 28 points over a 21 minute time frame.

Put it together and you have the equivalent of getting outscored by 60 in a game.

Thatā€™s not normal - outside of NU basketball, I mean. Such epic collapses in such a short time spanā€¦SMH.

We all worried that the 7-0 start was fools gold. It was.

You talking about when Brice grabbed the dudeā€™s leg causing him to travel? That was a good call. Agree Minny got help, but not enough for a 28 point swing.
