Fourth best class in the B1G

From 1973 through 1992 Nebraska was 17-33 against top 10 opponents and even worse against top 5 opponents. Michigan is a top 10 team year in and year out as is OSU. Even if we have a legendary coach, a unique system that is hard to prepare for, amazing facilities, fan support, and a system of broadcasts that prioritizes our program above others...we still won't beat top 10 teams but 1 out of 3 times. The 1993-1997 huskers are not the comparison point...but instead the 20 years prior should be the expectation and hope. You can't hope to get the talent and leadership we had on that 97 team ever again.

I'm sure everyone has a losing record against the Top 5 in a 20 year period not named Alabama the last 20.

Scott thought the schedule was already daunting enough and was planning on beginning the transition to power I/option football. He remembered that 9/11 starters on the MNC 1997 Nebraska Cornhuskers were Nebraska boys who were tough as nails. Pre-requisites for Head Coach Scott Frost recruit...tough...Nebraska boy...mullet..tough...full implementation of roster overhaul was to begin 2022-2029.
There've been plenty of lame trolls here but you've got to be one of the worst. Try harder.

a) physically impossible, lol and
b) uh, Math.

Don’t live there anymore but I still call Nebraska Home. I’m not trying to be a dick in pointing it out… but NIL is NOT gonna help us compared to dozens of wealthier schools.

Nebraska should be looking to be as good as the teams from 80-89. What I mean by that is 3 real shots at a National Title where you could win it, some conference championships, and several let down years. I believe the 1993-1997 run was the universe correcting itself for screwing Nebraska out of the 82 and 83 championships and the 97 was just gravy.

Rhule and staff just put together a top 30 class that is the fourth best in the B1G. And he did that with a short amount of time and not even a full staff. I remember reading something where Rhule said that when he was on the road recruiting it was apparent that the Nebraska brand is still very much alive. I thought when I read that that it had to be an exaggeration. But it isn't. After six straight losing seasons and seven losing seasons out of the past eight, you would be hard-pressed to find another P5 conference team that could still draw in recruits and transfers the way NU can. No... we are not among the elites in our recruiting. And we may never be. But there is no damn reason we cannot compete for B1G titles year in and year out. There was a time that many of us on here remember that a losing season would have been considered a catastrophe. Heck, a two or three loss season was cause for us to say "what went wrong this year?"

Those days are coming back. And the days of losing seasons are over. I am calling it. GBR!
I do hope you are right, good sir.

I'd settle for the 1960s for the next decade:
  • Two losing seasons, followed by
  • A 9-win season and minor bowl victory
  • A conference title and and an Orange Bowl victory
  • A season that ended with a Cotton Bowl loss
  • A season that ended in the Orange Bowl with a national title on the line
  • A fourth straight conference title and a Sugar Bowl berth
  • Two mediocre seasons, barely above .500
  • A co-conference title and a minor bowl victory in a 9-win season.
Of course, a conference title in an eight-team league is about the same as a division title in a 14-team league or finishing in the top 2-3 of a 16-team conference post-2023.

We’re not anywhere close, lol. OSU and MU don’t have ‘a little more’, they have exponentially more. Dozens of schools. This is private donation… are you nuts? Tell me how NEBRASKA ends up top 10 in NIL money? On what planet, lol? It’s just common sense. We are not a wealthy state. We do NOT have wealthy donors, compared to even average power conference schools.
You truly are talking out of your ass. This wasn't hard to find

Did you read the commentary there? Lol people ridiculing us even being on that list dominated the discussion!

I mean I get that Husker football is literally ‘the only show in town’, but NIL money is very simply a reflection of the Wealth owned by a Program’s donors. More or less, right?

We shouldn’t be anywhere near the top 20. ‘Splain it to me why you think we have some big advantage?

We don’t have to dominate the whole big 10 but we have to develop well enough to dominate the Iowas of the world and compete with OSU and Michigan.
Dingle, what are you smoking? You are saying we just have to dominate Iowa and compete with tOSU and Michigan? Ha, a couple years of that and people will be all over Rhule. It all caught up to Frost, he was close and did "compete". Fans are not going to have patience when Trev paid so handsomely for a HC and his staff. Throw on top of that, the last 20 years of futility, the honeymoon won't last long.

just sayin... the wealth residing in Nebraska doesn't really cause a ripple on the pond in comparison to most other states. Alaska has more per capita 'high earners' than we do.
True, as far as states go. But we're looking at cities here where state university football programs are located in or around. Ours is formidable or should be all things relative.

Credit where credit is due… the other thread on Nebraska fumbling NIL is pretty eye opening.

It doesn’t mean we can’t make some noise, but we are not where I thought we were. Good call on where things are at right now, and I’m even more impressed we got who we did under the circumstances.

I think shady nil claims are bogus...like mich fan will say "we are behind the times on nil"
but then have a full blown nil tampering operation to poach hausmen....
then playing dumb...

we should be poaching their players, not the other way around..

exactly. Wasn't a 'swing and a miss' by any stretch, but the truly elite talent isn't coming here. They're going where the money takes them, and you saw it on display yesterday. I think with the right combination of 3/4* talent and better development we can become *more* competitive, but the days of dominating a conference aren't coming back. And we'll never be on par with Michigan and Ohio State. Gonna be their bitch and call 'em Daddy for the foreseeable future.

Stop being pessimistic, or stop being Realistic?
You can be as pessimistic you want. You are negative all the time. But when you throw the we're gonna be there bitch and they are the daddy or how ever you put it. Your post loses all credibility and shows you are nothing more than a troll. And not a very good one at that.
