Florida State..WTF

I thought going to 12 playoff teams was dumb as 8 was more than enough. Now, if we even went to 16 that would be good so these fccking teams can actually give a shit and play.
Go back to a single game championship, or even better, the old bowl alliance system. Quit reducing the sport and season to the playoff. Go back to school pride and the love the game as the primary reason to compete. But that’ll never happen. No putting the genie back in the bottle.

Maybe if the NFL would hold opt outs accountable as more about themselves rather than team this wouldn’t happen so much.

Now you also have to deal with the transfer portal that opens before the bowl season is even over also.

The way some of these teams are playing, it makes me wonder what exactly got accomplished at practice. In theory, if kids are focused and the team goes back to working on fundamentals a lot can get done. But if a team practices like dog crap and the kids act like they don't want to be there, then a program could actually take a step back.
Agreed, it's why I didn't want us to make a bowl game. We're heading in a new direction, I hope, and bowl practices wouldn't have done any good.

Kirby speaking truth.

Glad he said something. Wish he'd had a little more conviction about it, but glad to hear someone at the top of the sport addressing it publicly. Always sounds better coming from the winning coach in that situation too, because when the losing coach says something, it just sounds like sour grapes. Hoping more take a page from Kirby's book and the noise gets louder until something is done.

Agree with this. This isn’t just about those players, the team culture comes into play. Georgia could have thrown a hissy fit and opted out too. They didn’t, they showed up and worked. Anyone saying practices are a joke prior to the bowl games … that is 100% on the coaching staff. I doubt the Georgia practices were a joke and a F off session and would guarantee that had Nebraska made a bowl ours wouldn’t have been either.

Florida State coaching staff needs to look in the mirror and see what they have been doing to build this mentality - a bunch of weak-minded toddlers who take their ball and go home when the decision doesn’t go their way. Instead of proving why they deserved to be there by beating Georgia they made a collective sigh of relief for the committee on why they were left out.
Yep. FSU better hope they're not on the bubble again next year. Who would want to watch this in a playoff game?

They are one of the best 4

Who should they have replaced?
  • A 1 loss Alabama team that they just got beat by?
  • An undefeated Washington team that plays in a P5 conference (that just happened to arguably be the best top to bottom that it's ever been)?
  • An undefeated Michigan team that plays in a P5 conference?
  • A 1 loss Texas team that beat the team that beat Georgia?
Not saying Georgia shouldn't have been in the conversation, but I just don't see anyone you could logically bump to put them in. Top 4 teams was razor thin this year and Georgia was just on the wrong side of the razor, however slight it may have been.

...and thank you Florida State players who all quit on your team when you didn't get everything you thought you should, and showed the world that keeping you out of the playoff was the right call.
Foolish logic. Had they kept their #4 ranking after beating a ranked team & made the playoff they never would have quit, thus making your argument moot.

I'd say they embarrassed themselves and deservedly so. If preserving an undefeated season against an elite team in a historically prestigious bowl game doesn’t motivate you, then I don't know what will.

a playoff - duh

I’m guessing a title shot. A title shot would have motivated them. That’s it. Nothing else. And they earned that right.

Florida State quitters had a chance to knock off a 2 time defending natty winner and finish the seaaon undefeated..... and tbey still quit. All the naysayers now have all the ammo they need to proclaim the selection folks did their job, correctly.

Only ones that lack critical reasoning skills.

The playoff has killed bowl season. It sucks. All in the name of trying to attract nfl fans that never understood college football to begin with.

They need to eliminate the transfer portal opening prior to the end of the season. That’s step one. Step two is finding a way to limit tampering and limiting transfers. Kids can’t just change schools every year. That’s absurd. Third, schools need to tie NIL to completing the season somehow. Fourth, this games are really telling as to what coaches are building a culture and program and which ones have a roster full of talent that are only out for themselves. I think we have a guy that players won’t opt out on in Rhule. Time will tell.
I agree. We need to restore sanity to transfers. Players need to go back to sitting out a season when they transfer and they must lose eligibility for a season after playing one game. Right now we're honestly asking coaches to do the impossible job of building a roster but living with the constant threat of having players ditch the program on a whim.
I think NIL is ok but there needs to be a contractual agreement to play all the way through the post-season. I'm not sure how to enforce that however.

Playing for the national title that you deserve and earned.

The 23 players that opted out wouldn't have been able to overcome that much of a point deficit. Perhaps the game might have been somewhat more competitive, but honestly at the end of the day Georgia was simply the better team and would have found a way to win no matter what.

Alabama proved they belong by beating a great Georgia team. Florida State had a great season and I was pulling for them to win but a 63-3 just can't be swept under the rug.

Exactly, I had felt quite strongly that Florida State should have gotten in. After the complete embarrassment and spanking laid by Georgia, I'll admit I was wrong. The committee got it right.

They could have claimed a national title if they had won just like UCF did in Frost's last season. That Mike Norvell didn't think of that and rather let his team walkout in mass tells me all I need to know about his leadership qualities.
No one cares about Ucf’s fake title. People laugh at them for it.

Maybe so but that’s a purely subjective comment. All we know is: Texas is better than bama. Bama is better than Georgia. Everything else is an opinion.
Replace is with was and I agree. Those teams were better on that day.
