Fidone

I mean we've never seen it, not even once since he's been here, his supposed superior athleticism. It's hard to blame fans for thinking it's myth rather than reality.
I get that, but why even bring it up (his "supposed athleticism") if we haven't seen it due to known major injuries?

I guess it's more of how HuskerDrew made that comment. Like Fidone's injuries has nothing to do with his now athleticism abilities.

He was going to average at best at TE. Moving him to center was clearly the best decision Frost made as head coach for NU. Perhaps his only good decision.
Great from an evaluation standpoint. Terrible from a coaching standpoint. We went what, 1.5 or 2 full seasons not knowing if the center would get the ball to the qb? Stupid decision to trot him out there not knowing how to snap.

It boggles my mind sometimes how long it takes a highly paid coaching staff to identify and fix something simple.

You sure as hell can strengthen a joint and the muscles around it that help stabilize it. Which leads to the major problem with bracing is that these soft tissues aren't being conditioned in the way they need to be for fluid, stable motion when performing athletic activities. Which is why Fidone and others move so awkwardly when they're used to wearing a brace all the time.
The braces decrease the risk of ligamentous knee injuries in high risk positions such as OLine and TE’s. For a guy like Fidone, the brace is almost a must to protect his reconstructed ACL’s. I’m sure he does a ton of proprioception exercises for ACL protection. But no amount of strength exercises can prevent ligament injuries and there is no exercise to “strengthen” the ligaments of his knee. You can hate on the brace all you want, but the idea that a brace weakens a knee has zero data to support it.

Wish people would tone down the Fidone rhetoric. We win one game in forever and lots of fans are acting like its his fault. He chose Nebraska over Saban and Alabama, and he's a local kid to boot. Easy to root for and not his fault we had a crappy OC the last 2 years.
Exactly

Fidone’s snaps and targetshad already decreased significantly from his earlier involvement. Benning kept talking about how Satt was misusing him and what a matchup problem he was downfield. Dana sent a loud message but the fact he was still playing before the false start says that Dana still sees a talented pass catcher there.

I guess I would have to see the studies on that. I’ve worn a knee brace for a partially torn ACL. It all it did was apply unnatural pressure to both my knee and hip. Trying to stabilize a knee with that much soft tissue between the bone and the brace is virtually impossible with an external device that short and that bends in the middle.

In looking at the roster going forward, and the reality of Fidone only in for 3 plays Saturday, you have to wonder what this team looks like in a world of 105 man roster limits.

NU has Fidone, JR, Boerkircher JR, Lindemeyer SO, Nelson FR. If Dana returns as the OC, and I'm Fidone's parent, I'm not feeling very secure. I don't think its far fetched that Thomas enters the portal. There may not be a spot for him on this roster if Dana is designing the offense next year.

Fidone has very good hands, not a physical or very good blocker and is limited in his movement; Boerkircher has very good hands, more physical than Fidone and moves well for a big kid; Lindemeyer likely doesn't catch the ball as well as the others, but he's a total wrecking machine as a blocker; Nelson, has all the tools, needs to get bigger, but has the speed and the versatility the others lack.

Saturday, due to snap counts, Dana has moved on from Fidone.

Don't know a lot about DH's offenses but Nelson needs to bulk up a lot to play a traditional TE role in the Big 10, IMO. I would leave him at WR at this point. Bonner is probably closer to reaching that point than Nelson.

Benning said this more fidone is one of those players that needs to be involved early in the game, I’m speculating that he the type of player that checks out if he’s not getting the ball, it’s not being a spoiled kid it just some kids are that way

That's how it goes in football with teams that want to win.

Competition brings the best to the top.

High school star ratings were 3,4,5 years ago for some of these guys.

Just pull up a chair there, young whippersnapper, and let me tell you about a kid named Johnny Mitchell...
I believe you guys are actually misreading his post. It is about Fidone in its entirety.

I think he is saying that he’s never seen NFL potential out of Fidone.

I’ve seen a couple of flashes here and there, but overall the damage to knees has been too great. His speed and ability to get open are greatly hampered. I hope the kid has a fantastic life outside of football. He worked like hell to come back from two pretty bad injuries

Did you see what Saquon Barkley did yesterday? Eagles line is definitely putting in work

I really don’t think people are dogging Fidone, it’s more what his mommy was crying about after the game… if that indeed her.
I had mentioned that if Fidone is such a beast with “supposed” athleticism that he should be crushing guys in blocking but he doesn’t. I have seen him (and others of course) miss TONS of blocks.
I know he’s had injuries but why would we care about that? So should we watch games and when we see blown plays just say to ourselves.. oh wow we can’t block or tackle but a couple of those guys had injuries so it’s fine that they can’t do their jobs?

Case in point about the crybaby shit… Bonner fumbled that ball early on the flip pass from Dylan and I don’t think I saw him the rest of the game. I don’t his mom crying about it

How many snaps does Fidone get on Friday?
45-50. I think the message has been sent. TFII is headed back into his home state against a school that recruited him hard, and he is given the opportunity to show the offensive staff that he has gotten the messages and now is the time to show out. As far as Grandma Shirley, good for her for sticking up for him. That is grandmas do.

I agree. I do think its important to get Carter reps though, even at WR. Looking down the road in 2 years with Raiola, Barney and Carter looks potentially nasty. Having 2 and potentially 3 skill people with difference maker talent on offense is what separates the good from the great offenses.

Thank you!!! Very good point

Mitch Krenk owns a SB ring.

Keith Neubert played 4 or 5 years too.
I liked Krenk but what was a real shame was outside of Jamie Williams the one that had the most promise in that room with speed and hands committed suicide the following year Monte Engebritson and this dude coulda made a huge mark in 83.

Monte Engebritson played for 3 years at Nebraska, lived in various places and had various jobs, and died in 2006 at the age of 45. He battled cancer for 13 years…

At least that’s what his obituary said.

Are you thinking of Brian Hiemer? He took his own life in 1985…

Yes, it was Hiemer who took his own life.

Mitch Krenk was the TE who caught the famous bounce pass left from Gill to Fryar.
