Anyone who knows me at all knows that I am a die hard Husker fan. It takes a lot to keep me away from watching a game. I'm so proud of the team and the big win, but I spent last night with true American heroes. I was at a Veterans Day banquet with a room full of amazing men and women including five Medal of Honor recipients. Highlight of the night was a chance to talk with Colonel Bruce Crandall. Bruce was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Ia Drang. That was the battle featured in the book/movie we were soldiers. During the battle, he flew 22 missions in an unarmed helicopter into enemy fire to bring ammunition and supplies and evacuate the wounded. When his first helicopter became too shot up, he jumped in another. He ended up needing three helicopters that day.
I ignored my phone all night and started watching my DVR of the game at 230am. It was perfect.
