Everyone who said we just need a QB that won’t turn it over

If we turn the ball over, we lose by 2-3 TDs.

If our kicker makes his FG, we win
If our O line was better, we win
If our punting game was better, we win.

Despite the loss, Purdy provided some hope at the QB position that was non-existent before the game. He played well enough that if/when we can shore up some other aspects on this team, we can beat some good teams.

That being said, we should always be looking to upgrade.
Yup. In the next couple of years we'll know if those short comings are due to coaching or due our current talent level.

With Frost, after 5 seasons we knew the short comings were due to him. No way we knew after year 1 and no way we know with Rhule.

This has been said AFTER games. Using hindsight.

Was it said before the Wisconsin game? "Competent QB play and no turnovers would put us over the top vs Wisconsin?"

Maybe it was, idk. I just don't recall that being the narrative.
I guess you’re proving my point, so we agree.

We’re not one quarterback away from being 9-2, 8-3. We are a culture away from being 9-2, 8-3.

The Wisconsin team that we lost to yesterday is dogshit and has had buy in issues all year. So with competent QB play and limited turnovers, most people would have said we win yesterdays game prior to yesterdays game

Lol really dude. He had poor time clock management first half and second… dude was a bad hire. Hope Trev is polishing up his resume

This^
several key plays played significant role in yesterday’s loss.
1. Taking a worthless/risky end zone shot at the end of first half instead of better setting up Alvano was critical.
2. Buschini’s punt might be the biggest blunder that cost us the game.
3. Not even attempting to run max number of (run) plays at the end of regulation when we had their D on their heels was loser culture. Settling for OT was waving a white flag on wanting to make a bowl game.

Obviously, there’s plenty more to dissect, but we at least got better QB play than what we’ve seen. Have to keep upgrading at any/all positions, but a better QB is still a must.

The main similarity I see between Frost and Rhule is he has a staff that’s not up to snuff. Many of them have zero experience coaching and recruiting at the P5 level. One of his coordinators he has no previous affiliation with and his side of the ball is solid. His golden child Satterfield reminds me of Frost in play calling, can have one or two offensive explosions then stagnation. It was maddening to see Wisconsin’s staff make adjustments while ours banged its head against a wall.

If Trev does not implore him to look at staff changes going into the offseason, then we will all know nobody in the athletic department is committed to winning. Rhule has a history of turning programs around, but coaching Nebraska in the BIG is a whole other ball game to anywhere else he’s been.

You're right. 1 game, shoot even 1 season tells us exactly who Rhule is.

I can't wait until Rhule turns this program around. You're going to be in quite the conundrum.

Baylor is a tough place to have success and Rhule turned them around. It's easier to have success at Nebraska than it is to have success at Baylor.

I would say that game looked like two evenly matched teams that took it into overtime. Both teams flashed at parts of the game. Neither team turned it over, or had a bunch of penalties and bone-headed plays. One team had to win. And it turned out to be the team that was at home, on senior night, that hadn’t lost most of their offensive starters, and that hasn’t had a poor culture for years.

But despite all of that, we could have just as easily won.

We have risen to the level of mediocrity. Like it or not, that is improvement.

It is not improvement, this 2021 version 2

My main point is, when you look at the coaching staffs of many of our BIG peers, they have coaches that have coached at the P5 level for decades. Not a bunch of yuppies that Rhule wants to groom in his own image so he can brag about his coaching tree.

We're 1 good QB away from being 8-3.

With a good QB, using hindsight, do we beat Minnesota, Michigan St and Maryland?

EDIT: Just because the QB doesn't lose this game vs Wiscy, doesn't mean we're not 1 QB away from being 8-3.

Yes, we needed more than "non-bad QB play" to beat Wisconsin. Play calling, special teams, penalties & tackling were all troublesome.

"Most people would have said..." I know the board isn't a great reference to how the entire Husker nation feels, but it's all we have to go off of.

1 poster mentioned something about Nebraska have <2 turnovers and we win.

No, it’s 2019. Despite a gut-wrenching 3 game losing streak, we haven’t been 5-6 with a chance to go bowling into the last game since 2019. That was Frost’s best year.

If we lose to Iowa, Rhule’s first year matches Frost’s best year. It’s modest, but still improvement. We did have injuries on offense

If we beat Iowa, we are on cloud nine.

We need a better OC. I’d start with taking anyone that’s actually had an offense rated higher than 70th in the country, something our current moron has never done.

Who knows, maybe with Chubba getting a full game in, he will have more experience to possibly beat Io_a.

No difference, 2019 v2 vs 2021 v2.

You go ahead and be on cloud 9 if we beat Iowa. I’ll be ok with the season but not happy as our lack of discipline and stupidity caused us to lose at least 3 games this year

I suppose Riley was the better hire right…

Can you tell us what Vegas Over/Under was for Nebraska?

As of now .. yes. Riley beat a ranked team year one. Was ranked in the top ten year 2.
What ever you do to convince yourself of that..
Rhule wasn’t fortunate inheriting a winning team.

Take it you don’t know the other Question..

Rhule was handed the easiest Nebraska schedule in 75 years… next year could be ugly if doesn’t figure out how to pull his head out of his rectum.

I can’t believe the excuses fake fans like you are giving for rhule. Blue bloods demand excellence… but limp dick fans like you no longer care about wins. I guess we have lost our blue blood status.. what a sad decline

Oops we turned it over 2x in scoring position (downs, INT) last night

Carry on
My brother is “better than me”? He doesn’t think HH should be on a scholly next year. I think he SHOULD be (at a different position - emergency 3rd or 4th string Qb as well). My lifetime buddy that started OL in front of Barry Sanders in Detroit for 5 years - thinks HH is the worst starting QB that Neb has had in his memory. Do you know more than Natty Championship (Academic AA players) or 5 year NFL starters? If you do - good for you. Anybody that can open their eyes can see HH is a player out of position. A leader? Maybe. But I wouldn’t have had Wistrom taking snaps based on that quality. You need to be able to “pass”. If you are a Qb. Everyone I’m associated with doesn’t believe HH has that ability. A great TE? Quite possibly. You said Purdy couldn’t throw 30 yards. He did last night right? Do you think he threw a better ball (all things considered)? If you say “no”… you lose any credibility you have left. Probably had a better completion percentage than almost any Qb had this year for Neb - and hasn’t really played since the Spring game.

Not saying the schedule wasn’t easy, but saying it was the easiest in 75 years is all bull$&it.. How old are you that would know that for fact?

Get off this fans like me don’t care to win crap.. You’re one of them that thinks HH is a Good QB, you don’t have any room to talk…

Agreed. Purdy executed at a level we haven’t seen here in a long time. Coaches failed to put him in places where that would actually matter.
I agree with none of this.

How do you know where the coaches "put him"? How do you know he made the right calls at the line, right play changes, found the blitz, (we know he did not see the short side corner blitz).

A lot happens between the play calls being sent on and the play call at thr LOS and then there is execution. If Chubba would have hit one or two more passes and we won, everyone would be singing full praises. But no, it didn't happen so it must be someone's fault. But who?

Imagine living in a world where a coach is able to build a program by recruiting and developing players who want to run through a brick wall for him and don't transfer out at the drop hint of more money. Ones that WANT to come play for him and its not all about money. Can you imagine?
HAHAHAHAHA I know I laughed too. So hard that my sides hurt now.
What a loser pipe dream.

Sports Illustrated: "The days of building a program are a part of the past"

See, it's real and reality because we're told that just how it is.
And if you don't agree you're a hater, out of touch. An old worthless fogey shaking your fist at the clouds in the sky and should probably head up to Canada to help assist you in finality.

What a joke.

Had it last night and still lost. Please let us know what the next excuse is to keep us current
Unless you are the '85 Bears, you always need a QB who does more than just not turn the ball over. You need a QB who can make timely and accurate throws to keep drives alive.
Did we have that kind of QB this season?

By the way, even the '85 Bears had a QB (Jim Mc Mahon) who did more than just not turn it over.

You’re building a strawman. Nobody is talking about those game except you.

My point was we lost even though we weren’t bleeding turnovers to a garbage team.
There’s a reason Wisconsin was picked to win the west. They got Mordecai and Allen back last night and they’re difference makers.

agree on Allen. But they’re still not a good team by any stretch

There offense has been their Achilles heel. There D has made steady progress. Their lines are reasonably good. I think White and Satt probably got out coached to some degree. Mordecai was really good last night and Allen was a bull.

You’re ok with losing. Yes, it’s the easiest in 75 years. I said HH gave the best chance for winning over sims.. if we had competent coaching.. we don’t because we hired another salesman that we are going to pay millions to

it is strange that, after witnessing the best quarterback play we'd seen all season, there were zero people expecting to win in OT in the game thread
