I’m with you on the offense and I think we will be vastly improved on special teams. However, I’m pretty skeptical we see improvement on the defensive side.
I'd be disappointed with 4-4 even though it's likely going to be that or worse. 5-3 and I think you can point to progress. 4-4 I don't think you can.
By the metrics of the FPI, and their 4-4 record, that would've been a 8-4 to 9-3 finish vs. the original schedule. You absolutely can point to progress with a 4-4 record.
non-conference would have represented either 3 - 1 or 4-0 in addition to the 4-4 conference schedule.forgive me but how can 4-4 turn into a 9-3 finish “vs the original schedule” when all 8 teams that resulted in 4-4 were on the original schedule?

7-5 or 8-4 would be the likely outcome if they kept their non-conference games.
4-4 in the conference would be a let down to this Husker fan.
let's go win, starting on saturday. losses to lesser programs (iowa, mn, purdue, etc.) can no longer be excused for any reason.
I consider iowa, purdue, nw, illinois, mn, indiana, cu to be complete and total dumpster fires for their entire history. losing to them under any circumstance should be unacceptable.C'mon Rambo, you're way sharper than that. HCSF took over a total & complete train-wreck via Smiling Mike & Clownahan. Hang in there partner.....we'll get there.
I have heard that but I don’t see any sure wins on our schedule other than perhaps Illinois. Would 1-7 or 0-8 still merit a free pass? I can’t imagine that happening but this might be the toughest schedule ever. The conference schedule is exceptionally tough and we don’t have our usual two or three easy NC games to build momentum.Frost and most every other coach in the country will get a free pass this year regardless of record. They won’t actually count his “year three” until next year. That said, a 4-4 record for this year and this schedule would be ok.
Sign me up for 5-3 or 6-2 and a chance to pad it in the crossover championship game and bowl game....
Agree totally on all that...that’s what I been guessing too. 5-3 with 4-4 being basement and 6-2 being the ceiling.
I truly expect a Top 25 range offense (or better) and a defense that should improve from last year (sorry, the defense is hard to gauge or guess at). So we could be fairly good this year...but I’m taking a wait and see approach this time.
Agree Norm we go 4-4 we should be able to pad that with crossover and bowl...If we go 4-4 in our 8 scheduled games, the way we do in the crossover game and bowl game will determine the success of the season in my eyes. 6-4 is totally acceptable 4-6 not so much.
I don't really care. 4-4 is not a winning record. I want to at least see a winning record in year 3.By the metrics of the FPI, and their 4-4 record, that would've been a 8-4 to 9-3 finish vs. the original schedule. You absolutely can point to progress with a 4-4 record.

Texas would be dumb enough to fire a coach during a meaningless year.Tom Herman sure hopes you're right... lol
Iowa sucks.forgive me but how can 4-4 turn into a 9-3 finish “vs the original schedule” when all 8 teams that resulted in 4-4 were on the original schedule?
I think 1-7 or 0-8, although neither is happening, would still get Frost another year. Just my opinion. The only exception being if he completely lost the locker room or had some type of scandal to go along with the poor record. Like making dudes run around with a trash can on their heads, or threatening to send them back to the ghetto. Something totally off the wall like that.I have heard that but I don’t see any sure wins on our schedule other than perhaps Illinois. Would 1-7 or 0-8 still merit a free pass? I think 1-7 is more likely than 4-4. 2-6 or 3-5 most realistic. Hopefully the goofs who write the big checks don't sour on Frost too soon. He's going to need time. The success at UCF was impressive, but he still has a lot of growing to do as a coach. There is a list a mile long of coaches who parlayed a couple of hot seasons at a mid-major and then failed to get it done at bigger schools. We need old school patience with the HC.
Not too hard to predict that given that 3 of the opponents are ranked high in the AP Top 25 and obviously way above an unranked Nebraska. You'd have to be illogical at the moment to say Nebraska was going to beat those teams. But we'll see. Beating any one those teams would be a such a HUGE upset.Ok ESPN hates farmers etc etc but if they are right is that ok for year 3 of this regime?
6-3 this year to just tie the ridiculously high mark for conference wins set by Mike Riley in his three illustrious years at Neb
to think in year 3 - 4 conference wins - a mere improvement of just a single conference win over Riley in 2017 would in any way be heralded as any type of achievement is truly remarkable
No - every coach won’t get a free pass - the NFL has already fired coachesFrost and most every other coach in the country will get a free pass this year regardless of record. I don't think you're advocating for firing, but held accountable I agree withNo - every coach won’t get a free pass - the NFL has already fired coaches
Hopefully those empowering racist pig boy sons to rule the roost are, indeed, not granted a free pass.No - every coach won’t get a free pass - the NFL has already fired coaches
Cant argue with this. Lets look at our divisional record first. Once we start to consistantly challenge for the top there we can consider the other side.2017 — 3-6 vs. conference, 2-4 vs. division
2018 — 3-6 conference, 2-4 division
2019 — 3-6 conference, 2-4 division
4-4 with a chance at 5-4 probably also means either 3-3 or 4-2 vs. the division. That's a step in the right direction, even if it's a small step.
I'm sure Iowa and mn don't consider themselves lesser teams. Maybe 20 years ago....4-4 in the conference would be a let down to this Husker fan.

well, yea, iowa considers itself a powerhouse and if mn had fans I'm sure they'd say the same.I'm sure Iowa and mn don't consider themselves lesser teams. Maybe 20 years ago....
Right now Nebraska is in the class of after thoughts. We have been for awhile, but especially now after the last three seasons. The only people who think differently are red kool aide drunk. Huskers need to do something to change that. A winning season won't do that in my book unless it includes a win over tOSU, PSU or Wisc.well, yea, iowa considers itself a powerhouse and if mn had fans I'm sure they'd say the same.
the fact remains both programs are afterthoughts nationally, even in the best of years. we should almost never lose to either.
