And people wonder why 'new' country music is horrible. Just awful. Can't say it any other way.
Guess I haven't herd those people sing i usually listen to Willies Road house on xm or a couple of very good local am and fm stations that play traditional countryJamie Johnson, Chris Stapleton, ZBB, etc. There is a lot of good country out there, just not a lot on the radio.
If you want to hear what current actual country music sounds like listen to Turnpike Troubadours. They're the real deal.
Ya know, I tried listening to those guys, and I still think those guys are a little too close to modern country for my tastes. Don't get me wrong...I would much rather listen to them than the usual new country tripe, but I could listen to Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris everyday for the rest of my life and not complain one bit..
First off, pop country sucks. Robert Earl Keen, Charlie Robison, Steve Earl is country music.
Secondly, yes they make medicine for a heartbreak. It's called alcohol.
I love Emmylou Harris. Her and John Prine singing Angel from Montgomery is my all time favorite song.
I really like some of Robert Earle Keen's stuff. Great voice. I would definitely call it Americana vs country, but Americana is where 'good' country influenced music resides. I still have a hard time listening to Steve Earle, because of that crummy Copperhead Road song, but like his son, Justin Townes Earl.
Shoot, I could listen to Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown all day too..
Johnny Cash was once asked who he thought was the greatest country singer. He replied "you mean besides George Jones?"One of my favorite country singers.
