Dana will be calling plays

I guess we will know for certain within the next few weeks

They will all combine to be the Voltron of OC's, just don't ask where the hands or feet go.
this move makes it impossible to judge Rhule or Dana

the next 3 games just became completely meaningless

it will be as if Year 2 never happened

Kong, anyone who says anything, and I mean ANYTHING other than what you have said here has been laughed at and insulted by you, and you mock them for trying to make sense of this move without absolutely torching Rhule.

Why do you take it upon yourself to do this? This is a classic maneuver from you that is so tired, but you can’t help yourself.

We shouldn’t be happy that Satt is demoted. We should all be pissed at Rhule because he never should have hired Satt in the first place.

Is there no room in your heart for better late than never? Or should we continue to be embarrassed to be Husker fans, or be embarrassed by the kinds of Husker fans we are?

You’ve got all the answers, tell us what to do.

Oh wait, you already have.

you must've missed this:

better late than never, I guess

story of Rhule's NU tenure

So in 2010 at Ok State, Holgerson was in his first year as OC. They won 11, losing two games to Neb and OU.
They scored 40+ eight times, 50+ four times and twice hit 65 points.

This is a huge fookin upgrade.
Its Been A Long Time Waiting GIF

Jesus man, not many of us are happy with what we’ve seen from Rhule this far but… smh.
The only “solution” I’ve heard Kong contribute to this is that Rhule should publicly acknowledge he would do nothing the same.

If we win 1 game - King would be pissed we didn’t win 2.

If we win 2 games he will be pissed we didn’t win 3.

If we win all 3 he will be pissed Rhule didn't make the change earlier.

At the end of the day - when you loathe someone it will always be easy to say how bad they suck and what they can improve and highlight their faults.

I have a hard time believing that the last three games are meaningless. Unless you’re coming at this from the angle that the change gives Rhule a new lease on life, regardless if bowl eligibility isn’t reached.

It's a big boy move, for sure. The rest of the season will determine if it was dumb or not.

I'm not sure anything could happen to make it a dumb move. Only dumb move would've been just standing pat with Satterfield and watching the ship sink. At least by changing you give yourself a chance. Imo the ONLY dumb move would've been NO move .

Holla

This is a necessary move.

Year 1 was excused away with a total whiff at QB in Sims.

This season it's become apparent that Sims was only a part of the problem and our OC is in waayyy over his head in the BIG.

If our offense looks competent down the stretch, I don't know if people are going to be glad or mad.

you must've missed this:
Didn’t miss that, judging by the rest of your posts in this thread, you don’t believe that. You’ve already got it worked out that he did this to avoid being judged for the entirety of year two, which is ridiculous. He’s the head coach. He’s accountable and should be.

aren't you literally on brain meds?

same guy who's defended Satt at every turn for more than a year.

can't make this stuff up, folks. this board is the best.

we'll see what the overwhelming tenor of this board is as soon as the season ends.

I, obviously, agree with you.

This is great news and a great sign of hope. In my humble opinion this signals the end of Satterfield. This is promoting Holgorsen to offensive coordinator in all but name only. Rhule is just trying to help Satt save some face here and finish out the season with some dignity. Then at the end of the season he will either be canned or allowed to resign. Rhule might even be working with his contacts to get Satt a job somewhere else so that when he leaves it will look like he just decided "to take this new opportunity". Whatever happens, it is now clear that Satt is toast. Rhule knows his own job depends on it.

I said he was already done the.moment they brought in DH. I just didnt/don't see a scenario where you could bring him back and convince a fan base that winning is your number one priority. Wish him well but it obviously didn't work out at Nebraska for him and I'm definitely one of the few who saw this crash coming from day 1.

Holla

Wait. I thought that was exactly what you wanted him to say. Now that triggers you as well?
it's not. at all.

but I'm not surprised to see you and others rallying behind this clip.

faces have changed, philosophy (and likely results) have not.

we are leaning farther into what has not and will never work at Nebraska, which is finesse, pass-happy football.

@kakdawg’s latest post nails it. The dumbest thing he could have done was done nothing.

I will admit there may be some who want to give Rhule the benefit of the doubt, but he has really messed this up to this point. He’s trying to rectify it now, but this shouldn’t let him off the hook.

Edit: post 134 for @kakdawg

if the dumbest thing he could've done was nothing, then the second dumbest thing he could've done was double down on what's already not working, has never worked and will never work here:

spread, pass-first, finesse football

and I am someone who really likes Dana H and wanted him to be named our OC in the off-season when he'd have had a chance to actually impact the team

this, to me, looks like CYA more than anything else

I've been wrong before and will happily be wrong about this, too.

Rhule has indeed messed it up to this point. I don’t call for a coach to be fired lightly. But what I have seen from Rhule is a steady cluster f$ck of mistakes that have really soured me on him.

Never understood the narrative that Rhule doesen't make changes. After he went bowling in 2014 with Temple he made massive changes to his philosophy. Not sure if he hired/fired anyone but he did make internal changes. Rhule has a history of looking at stuff then changing things after an evaluation. Now is this the right move? I have no idea.

My thinking is it’s the best he could do now… who else is available? Admittedly, maybe there are other names out there currently available that I am not aware of, but on the surface, this appears to be a good next step.

I agree it’s a CYA, but you’ve got to start somewhere. Rhule knows how important a 6th win is and that we weren’t gonna get there with Satt. Not only that, but I wonder if he was losing the team somewhat… this kind of move could backfire, or it could strengthen the resolve of the team, knowing that they will do whatever it takes to get to a bowl.

We are way better than just making a bowl game. We should be 7-2 minimum right now, with our 2 losses to current top 5 teams. 5-4 is on Rhule, and he knows it, which is why we have a change now and not at the end of the season.

how emasculated can one man get?

good grief, Rhule. this is approaching Salem-levels of cruelty.

I thought they were friends.

also - what was the point of hiring a 2nd OC this off-season only to pass him over for a guy who hasn't been part of the program for more than 5 minutes?

I have more questions than answers. as usual with this regime.
Well Thomas was hired primarily to coach QBs. My guess is the CoOC title was to get him more money to get him to come. I also believe Thomas already had input on play calling soooo. I’m very surprised that we would turn over play calling this quickly. Seems like a desperation move. This adds to my gut feeling that both Satt and Thomas are gone in a month.

I hope Dana took a crash course on the current offense and is just tweaking things because trying to install a new offense on a bye week is just asking for a disaster. Time will tell.

I can get behind this. It seems as though what has made him a good coach in the past has been his assistant coaches. I still believe he can set the vision well. But if the coaches can’t implement the vision, he looks like a pretty bad coach. And right now, the assistants aren’t implementing the vision very well.

He isn’t a genius like Tom Osborne. He’s a figurehead like Bobby Bowden. He knows what he wants to see but he can’t do it himself. He better continue to upgrade this staff if he wants to remain the head coach of the Huskers.

100% Rhule is not off the hook unless this works. It’s a bold move, but he knew something had to be done and this change is no half measure. I might have done a couple things differently, but in the end Rhule is making moves to win now. And like you said we’d be even more irate if he did nothing. Genius or Desperation? Time will tell…

My hope is that we spread them out (3 wr and 1 TE out wide) then run run right at them.

Play calling is overrated. Who is designing the game plan? Any new schemes? Play calling makes little to no difference if the game plan is horrible and the play design is problematic.
I’ve gotta believe we will see new wrinkles… heck, just calling a game differently than Satt has called would be a new wrinkle all by itself. It was so frustrating watching teams jump out plays because they knew both of Satt’s tendencies.

At least with Holgorsen we will get different tendencies and the play calls won’t be so predictable.

One of the best takes on the situation I have read. I agree 100%

only disconnect is the actual philosophy

what Rhule claims he wants to see and who he hires to implement it are diametrically opposed

it's not a failure of Satt to not instill toughness and commit to a run game - that's not who he is

this is what continues to confound me about our figurehead and why I really don't know that he has a clear vision to map his program to

we have nothing to hang our hat on as a program

Who will the Raiolas want here coaching QB is the question.
