Damar Hamlin: “Did we win?”

I think he is intubated still.
I doubt he’s writing notes if he’s intubated but they might have reduced his sedation for a while to try to wean him off of a ventilator and assess his mental state. Hard to say without getting more detailed info from his Dr. Hopefully he’s extubated but just hasn’t gotten his voice back yet.

Many moons ago I spent a quality afternoon in the orthodondist chair and could not speak....so I had to write things out....I was starving but eating was a day away so I thought McDonalds shake!!! I go to counter, write out my order in front of them, they all tbought I waa deaf and dumb....manager came up and personally helped me..no charge. A better person would have told them the truth, haha. Scored a free strawberry shake that day. One of many reasons I'm prolly going to hell.

I suspect his days of playing football are over. That said his survival is a credit to the immediate care he received. He can possibly go on to live a fairly normal life.
There was an interesting exchange between cardiologists on Twitter and a genetic cardiologist from Mayo (I think) speculated that, depending on recovery and a thorough investigation of cause, playing again wouldn’t be out of the question. I’d be done, though.

Lots to consider:

1) Did he suffer a low grade brain injury when he had cardiac arrest? Does he need rehab?
2) Was the arrest just from the blow to the chest or did he have any underlying heart issues?
3) After a near death experience, would he be psychologically willing to play again? I wouldn’t.

So even he thought the game would go in? Or is this a feel good could have happened quote?
At this point he’s still so drugged up that he doesn’t fully understand the gravity of the situation. He’s probably been told but things probably are pretty fuzzy for him.

I could be wrong but I don’t think there’s any way he’ll be allowed to play football again.

He might be able to but whether any Dr would clear it might be two different things.

Right. I would think it’s unlikely. It was just conversation that turned into speculation that maybe there was a genetic condition that caused the outcome and it could be fixed. I’m sure most of the athletes he has seen return after significant cardiovascular injuries aren’t returning to professional levels.

Max Duggan almost won a Heisman trophy after a catheter ablation. But obviously huge prognostic differences between elective procedures and coming back from sudden cardiac death.

I would bet heavily this dudes playing days are over.

Hopefully he has saved money and been insured (probably crazy expensive for NFL players if even possible) to take care of his family. I don't see him ever playing again. Compared to life, playing football is not important.

I would think the NFL has provisions for something like this. Not sure how long he’s been in the league nm: 2nd year. I think the team would have to reach an injury settlement. The NFL better take care of him.

I’ve been holding off but not anymore. You are the King of the Dipshits. You join this forum and create a dumbass user name and then spend all your time trying to convince everyone you are some recruiting guru. You are a liar and you don't know shit.

Your last post is not something anyone with a reputation of “knowing SEC coaches” and contributing to ESPN would say. You are a joke and a fraud. I think most of us would prefer you go away. Some of us find humor in your stupidity. Regardless, you have zero credibility and never will.

That’s reasonable. I am grateful and even though I didn’t watch any of the game when I saw it, come across social media I did watch the play a few times and prayed as I watch the replays. I’m grateful that he got the medical care that he did as fast as he did, and hoping that he has a full recovery, whether or not that ever includes him playing a competitive down a football again I’m glad he is and will be alive for bigger and better things.
