CB Killebrew N!! And another WR N soon?

The SEC has already been hurt vs. what it was a few years ago by NIL Now that all colleges can legitimately arrange to pay for players the SEC schools have lost their one-time advantage of paying players under the table.

It’s depth that has really hit the SEC the hardest. They’ll always have good starters on their good teams. But they can’t stack players 3 deep at positions and hold them hostage. Those really good 2nd and 3rd stringers aren’t waiting around to get their chance to play and get paid. They want to play now and get paid now.

We are taking alot of CB's, I wonder what the plan is there.
I hope I'm wrong on this, but this Arizona guy sure seems like a reach to me. So since he's not a top caliber transfer, I think it's an indication that the defensive staff does not like any of the young DBs already in the program. We can't say that the young DBs in the program are talented but need more time. Rhule just said last month that college football is changed and freshmen better be ready to play right away. Donovan Jones just moved from safety, practiced at corner a couple weeks and played a damn good game in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Well Chief Borders is listed as a defensive lineman on his transfer profile now soooo…. Wasn’t he a safety for us?
He was a slow outside LB or rover. Can't remember. Middling talent but he was an SEC transfer who some guy on the internet said was a "four star" in HS so we got all excited.

My thoughts on the matter as well

Up to 105. We have plenty of spots for these portal guys. The walk-ons will be the mass exodus.
So far the exodus has been about 50% scholarship guys. Maybe what you are saying is the final few cuts will be walkons? We shall see. I would hope that anybody who isn't on time for workouts with perfect attendance gets shown the door. This program has carried too many crappy athletes disguised as four star recruits for many years now.

The SEC is keeping the max at 85 for 2025, Ohio St is saying they are only going to fund 90-92 scholarships for 2025.
Interesting. And it makes sense. Keep the institutional costs down and make kids pay their own tuition while getting six figures of NIL on the side.

just moving around a lot of deck chairs and paying out lots of money if you ask me.. the quality going into the portal and coming out of the portal is pretty much the same crap as what you had.. only the collectives are paying for this "movement"..
I'm immune to the hype anymore. So far we are two to one in the transfer era- two busts for every one hit. And half of those hits are probably not playing much better than the guy behind them would be if they were getting the starter's rep.

We had 66 walk-ons. 20 new spots. Obviously a lot of walk-ons are leaving. Do walk-ons need to officially enter the portal or can they transfer without restrictions like before?

I can see this concern, but wouldn’t go too far with it. I would say across all position groups we’re only getting quality production out of maybe half or less the HS recruits. Transfers are not that much different as mentioned above.

It’s a game of numbers to bring in as much talent as possible and let competition shake things out.
While there’s concerns, I wouldn’t write off the young guys until they get to year 2 or 3.
It’s ideal to not be starting first year players anywhere. Senior Newsome and senior Hill were better DBs than their freshmen versions. The portal just puts more pressure on getting guys to be productive on the field before they leave.
Depth is always a concern, so it helps to find a few young ones ready to play.

Are you positive? We have 66 walk-ons and are any in the portal? I know some announced on social media they are leaving but 247 doesn't show any definite walk-ons in the portal.
I don't think he is. Typically, walk-ons are not under any contractual obligations as would be with a scholarship player that is tied to their athletic status, however, NIL may have muddied that a little bit. I would say the the true "walk-ons" do not have to enter the transfer portal because firstly they are just treated as a general student that volunteers to help the football team. Also, you most likely won't see the names of a lot of these walk-ons leave the program since most at Nebraska probably won't transfer but will just quit playing football and continue to go to school at Nebraska. Some may try to help the football team in other capacities. I wouldn't expect any of these walk-ons to leave the football program until the very last day they are allowed to be there.

I worded that wrong they have the opportunity to enter the portal like a scholly athlete .my guess with the 105 most walkons will not bother to enter because they are not making roster anywhere else .

Like is said in my corrected post they have the choice to enter . If say they turned down a scholarship at a fsc to walkon at Nebraska and want to go back to that FSC then I would think they would use the portal.

He played Jack here. Split time with Sherman.

Someone refresh my memory on the TE from LSU that came to Nebraska at the end of the summer. He wasn't in the portal, just left LSU and enrolled at Nebraska as a walk on and was immediately eligible, if I recall. That would be a reason to keep at least 1 or 2 spots available on the 105.

Exactly. We’re foolish if we award all of our scholarships.
