May have misunderstood your question. Were you asking if all 105 would be on scholarship? Are we going fund all 105?

This Killebrew kid must have a goal to play in every Power 5 conference?
As long as he plays great for us, it’s all good!
The SEC has already been hurt vs. what it was a few years ago by NIL Now that all colleges can legitimately arrange to pay for players the SEC schools have lost their one-time advantage of paying players under the table.
I hope I'm wrong on this, but this Arizona guy sure seems like a reach to me. So since he's not a top caliber transfer, I think it's an indication that the defensive staff does not like any of the young DBs already in the program. We can't say that the young DBs in the program are talented but need more time. Rhule just said last month that college football is changed and freshmen better be ready to play right away. Donovan Jones just moved from safety, practiced at corner a couple weeks and played a damn good game in the Pinstripe Bowl.We are taking alot of CB's, I wonder what the plan is there.
He was a slow outside LB or rover. Can't remember. Middling talent but he was an SEC transfer who some guy on the internet said was a "four star" in HS so we got all excited.Well Chief Borders is listed as a defensive lineman on his transfer profile now soooo…. Wasn’t he a safety for us?
I doubt that any of these NIL transfers are coming for a spring tryout.Spring competition. Git er done or git gone.
My thoughts on the matter as wellI hope I'm wrong on this, but this Arizona guy sure seems like a reach to me. So far the exodus has been about 50% scholarship guys. Maybe what you are saying is the final few cuts will be walkons? We shall see. I would hope that anybody who isn't on time for workouts with perfect attendance gets shown the door. This program has carried too many crappy athletes disguised as four star recruits for many years now.Up to 105. We have plenty of spots for these portal guys. The walk-ons will be the mass exodus.
Interesting. And it makes sense. Keep the institutional costs down and make kids pay their own tuition while getting six figures of NIL on the side. The SEC is keeping the max at 85 for 2025, Ohio St is saying they are only going to fund 90-92 scholarships for 2025.
I'm immune to the hype anymore. So far we are two to one in the transfer era- two busts for every one hit. And half of those hits are probably not playing much better than the guy behind them would be if they were getting the starter's rep.just moving around a lot of deck chairs and paying out lots of money if you ask me.. the quality going into the portal and coming out of the portal is pretty much the same crap as what you had.. only the collectives are paying for this "movement"..
We had 66 walk-ons. 20 new spots. Obviously a lot of walk-ons are leaving. Do walk-ons need to officially enter the portal or can they transfer without restrictions like before? So far the exodus has been about 50% scholarship guys. I can see this concern, but wouldn’t go too far with it. I would say across all position groups we’re only getting quality production out of maybe half or less the HS recruits. Transfers are not that much different as mentioned above.I hope I'm wrong on this, but this Arizona guy sure seems like a reach to me. Are you positive? We have 66 walk-ons and are any in the portal? I know some announced on social media they are leaving but 247 doesn't show any definite walk-ons in the portal.Everyone had to enter the portal to transfer.
If we put 105 on scholarship, don't we have to add 20 more women's scholarships due to Title IX or does that not matter anymore?May have misunderstood your question. Were you asking if all 105 would be on scholarship?
They have increased the roster numbers in every sport. If we put 105 on scholarship, don't we have to add 20 more women's scholarships due to Title IX or does that not matter anymore?
I don't think he is. Typically, walk-ons are not under any contractual obligations as would be with a scholarship player that is tied to their athletic status, however, NIL may have muddied that a little bit. I would say the the true "walk-ons" do not have to enter the transfer portal because firstly they are just treated as a general student that volunteers to help the football team. Also, you most likely won't see the names of a lot of these walk-ons leave the program since most at Nebraska probably won't transfer but will just quit playing football and continue to go to school at Nebraska. Some may try to help the football team in other capacities. I wouldn't expect any of these walk-ons to leave the football program until the very last day they are allowed to be there. Are you positive? We have 66 walk-ons and are any in the portal? I worded that wrong they have the opportunity to enter the portal like a scholly athlete .my guess with the 105 most walkons will not bother to enter because they are not making roster anywhere else .I don't think he is. Like is said in my corrected post they have the choice to enter . If say they turned down a scholarship at a fsc to walkon at Nebraska and want to go back to that FSC then I would think they would use the portal.I don't think he is. Mac Markway.Someone refresh my memory on the TE from LSU that came to Nebraska at the end of the summer. He wasn't in the portal, just left LSU and enrolled at Nebraska as a walk on and was immediately eligible, if I recall. That would be a reason to keep at least 1 or 2 spots available on the 105.
Right, just saying that he didn't enter the portal as a scholarship player, so I can't imagine a walk on would have to enter the portal to transfer as a regular student to a lower level programMac Markway.
I was referring to the guys already on our roster having to compete for a spot.I doubt that any of these NIL transfers are coming for a spring tryout.
Exactly. We’re foolish if we award all of our scholarships.Someone refresh my memory on the TE from LSU that came to Nebraska at the end of the summer. But it is more than just scholarships. There is a limit of 105 players on the roster. So if you want to pick up a player late in the summer, you need to have a spot available.Exactly. We’re foolish if we award all of our scholarships.
And actually now we could reduce the numbers of female participants or add men to other sports due to reducing our football roster size. They have increased the roster numbers in every sport.
Sure but as long as you do it before this fall, you could cut a non-scholarship player who is on the roster to make room to put a new guy on the 105.But it is more than just scholarships. There is a limit of 105 players on the roster. So if you want to pick up a player late in the summer, you need to have a spot available.
Roster size has nothing to do with it. Title IX is concerned with scholarship allocation. Probably the reason why the SEC stuck with the 85 scholarship limit. And actually now we could reduce the numbers of female participants or add men to other sports due to reducing our football roster size.
There is a requirement to fill at least 210 scholarships and spend $6 mil on scholarships over 16 sports. Also 90% of those scholarships have to be funded and not just participants. So teams will have to balance the scholarship numbers along with the Title IV numbersAnd actually now we could reduce the numbers of female participants or add men to other sports due to reducing our football roster size.
Is it roster size or scholarships that matter? And actually now we could reduce the numbers of female participants or add men to other sports due to reducing our football roster size.
It's not a requirement to spend $6 million on other sports but probably a good guideline to spend a proportional share of revenue to avoid potential lawsuits. There is a requirement to fill at least 210 scholarships and spend $6 mil on scholarships over 16 sports. Yes and no. Many of the equivalent scholarships are divided up between many players. Softball and baseball for example had 12ish scholarships each. Some athletic departments were offering softball players 1/4 and sometimes less of a scholarship and had rosters of 30, rather than 15-18 as they did in the past, putting a bunch of players on some sort of partial scholarship just to maintain Title IV compliance.Roster size has nothing to do with it. Title IX is concerned with scholarship allocation. Probably the reason why the SEC stuck with the 85 scholarship limit.

They’re leaving room for 10-15 transfers. Consider though that they haven’t had 150 on the roster and probably have never been worried about “developing” walk ons as contributors. They replace their busts with 4 stars every year.Interesting. And it makes sense. Keep the institutional costs down and make kids pay their own tuition while getting six figures of NIL on the side.
Bjork stated they would operate on about 92 scholarships for the season. He isn't saving room for transfers, maybe a few NIL deal guys, but not scholarshipsThey’re leaving room for 10-15 transfers. Interesting. Of course they don’t have to reach for recruits to begin with. Will they fill to 105 with NIL “walk ons” or just run with a 4 deep roster?Bjork stated they would operate on about 92 scholarships for the season. That’s going to eliminate some programs or force them to lower divisions. I think that’s a short sighted vision.Starting in 2027
If adopted, all FBS schools would be required to provide 90% of the total number of allowable scholarships over a two-year rolling period across at least 16 sports, including football. Schools also would be required to offer at least 210 scholarships each year, amounting to no less than $6 million in athletics scholarships offered.
I see, FBS requirement that starts in 2027. I think the scholarship allocation requirement now is like $4 million. I originally thought we were talking about revenue sharing, which has different requirements. Rich schools like Nebraska can probably exclude the scholarship allocation pot in their revenue sharing, while G5 type of schools will probably have trouble in their budgets just meeting the $6 million scholarship requirement in a few years.Starting in 2027
