Casey Thompson good to go for Spring ball

Bump. I remember hearing all about Purdy's leadership traits (witnessed while holding a helmet at FSU) and his great haircut. What happened? Did he get a bad haircut in the off-season?

here's all anyone needed to see from purdy to know he doesn't have it (posted Aug 15, 2022):

In my opinion, this single play shows me that purdy not only isn’t the guy today, he will never be the guy anywhere, ever

that is a throw a P5 QB makes in his sleep. Purdy doesn’t have the juice to get it there against 3rd and 4th teamers

that people are still considering his performance against michigan "pretty damned good" is nothing more than an undergraduate course in people seeing only what they want to see and/or extremely selective memory

I really did think Chubba was going to pan out and be a better leader. All the pre-talk around CT led me to believe he was not the right guy for the job.

He's got some abilities, but I still don't like his leadership.. he's still about as fake as it gets when being interviewed, so that's what I base my thoughts on. We were horrible last year. Blame whomever you want to.. but I don't think that highly of him as a QB.
I really don’t understand your distain for Casey. Fake in interviews?? That’s a new one.

He started off that way last spring and since he said it then he feels like he can never back down. What made it worse was how much he was backing Chubba at the time and we all saw how that turned out.

You will never change Nikki’s mind. None of us will.

@NikkiSixx used to be a sharp-edged contrarian whose takes I respected, though I often disagreed

something has happened to him over the past 15 or so months. he's now a dull beta.

I hope he's okay

you've never listened to his interviews? he's a great talker.. talk and talk and even more talk.. he will go on and on, and tell you everything you want hear, or at least everything he thinks you want to hear..

it's all bs.. people like that are very fake, 2 faced, and usually make great administrators and politicians.

In fact, I predict that will be his most successful skill in life. It will get him to very high places, and it's not at all unlike Trev Alberts ability to talk, or even Matt Rhule's ability to talk.

I see all people like that in a certain light. Not everyone else puts 2 and 2 together, and that's okay.

As to my disdain for CT, it's based on the above and how I classify the guy.. he's like any other smooth talking rat..

Now if he had won a bunch of games, maybe I would have changed my mind, but he didn't. He's pretty much exactly what he was at UT. He's a 50% win/loss kind of guy.

It's not really hard to put all this together, but I understand you're a normal Husker fan who lives in a bubble and are unable to think for yourself.

Tell me, how many smooth talking QB's have been really good ones at Nebraska?

Tommy Frazier? Turner Gill? Taylor Martinez? Tommy Armstrong? Joe Ganz? Not even Zac Taylor was a smooth talker..

The whole thing to me goes back to leadership and having a team have trust and faith in their leader.

As to my initial thoughts on Purdy last year, I did think he was more 'real' and not the smooth talking rat that CT is. I also considered that Purdy was the younger brother of Brock. Not just in athleticism as a comparison, but because he was the younger brother, his social skills will inherently be better. All kids that have older siblings are inherently better at the soft social skills necessary for being a good leader.

What I didn't account for is the obvious lack of confidence that was displayed on the field. That is something that nobody expected from a successful HS athlete.

The reality is, is you are a copy cat.. not original, and you wanted to make the same kind of call as I did on Adrian Martinez.

CT turned out to be better than Purdy, you were right about that, but that's all. I didn't see Purdy shitting the bed on game day.. nobody saw that coming. You just criticized his arm. I was more concerned about team leadership than athletic ability. We had just gone through 5 years of failed leadership with a non-competitive QB at the helm, and to me, I was placing a priority on that in my call.

So I got it wrong, it's not a big deal. I haven't changed my reasoning that led to the decision I made. Those base things still haven't changed. I also have no problem putting my neck out there and making a call, when most people don't have the guts to do so. They just go with whatever is spoon fed to them by the media.

I haven't changed at all.

My disdain for stupidity continues to grow however.

And as someone else posted, I still sit here and think we had a good leader as a coach, who was put in a pressure cooker, then went out and hired a rat instead, and after it all blows up, point the finger at the last guy who was basically setup to fail. The Nebraska Way? That is the snake side of Trev Alberts and Ted Carter. In fact, this hire comes directly from Ted Carter. MJ had no chance. He was used.

Now we will see what happens with the new guy. He's telling everyone what they want to hear, and we are getting some good recruits. Maybe it will work out. Hope it does. But it doesn't change my underlying thoughts about the situation. And if it blows up, you can be sure I will tell you all, I told you so. And if I'm wrong, then so what.

You might hate him because of his interviews. I like him because of his accuracy. When was the last time we had a qb who could actually hit all the passes he should be able to on a regular basis?

no doubt his accuracy is great, but it hasn't equated to wins either.. I would rather see a well led team that wins better than 50% of their games.

glad to hear nothing is wrong. you continue to ignore the true reason purdy lacks confidence - he throws like a girl & has since day 1

Maybe next time, beta!

You’d know all about that, wouldn’t you, Nikki?

Had to go all the way to SE Asia to mate for a reason

Keep coddling trolls, pussy
lol, I've slept with more women than I care to count.. but these days, you can keep your western feminist women all to yourself.. the same kind of trash as MJ wife and every other slut that some of you put on a pedestal and worship as equals.. the US has turned into simp land.. so unless you like dating your hand.. well you know all about that.

I must have missed your “gutsy call on Adrian” Was it that he sucked as a “winner” before he played here or did you predict that when going to K-State he would magically morph into a completely new person to become a “winner”?? (I actually predicted the latter) You know why? Because he wasn’t the only problem, and Casey is not a problem at all.

Idk how you can look at the Adrian case study and determine that it wasn’t the coaching staff/entire team who were the losers, because that’s all THEY ever did…then we even found out why and that still wasn’t good enough for you. You blame Casey as “the loser”…

For being such an edgy “deep thinker” you sure disregard every other person that makes a football program and pin everything on the QB.

Casey is the best passer we have had since at least Joe Ganz. We haven’t seen any QBs make pump fakes, look off defenders, and throw it away to avoid a sack nearly as well as him. The line last year was glaringly the worst we have ever seen at Nebraska AND there was zero run game. Wtf was he supposed to do?

Don't forget the playcalling. It was worse than the line many times. It usually took Whipple until the 3rd quarter to figure out they were bringing pressure and he needed to call a few screens.

In all seriousness, save your breath. We’ve had know it alls on this board for a long time, but Nikki is on the Mount Rushmore of know it alls on this board. You will never change his mind. Instead, if you continue to call him out, he will put you on ignore. I’m on his extensive ignore list, as you see he never responds to my posts. He isn’t a debater, just peddles his own magnificent thoughts over and over again on this board. I should ignore him, but his ego is kind of fun to see.

See you even mention it, the fact that TWO 4 star recruits at QB came in last year as backups and couldn’t do Jack shit should drive the point home about the coaching staff…and Casey can rest his case on it. There was not a lot of coaching going on last year on offense. You saw the DEFENSE step up massively and win us some games under Bill Busch.

Oh god are you another Mickey Joseph whiner??? The guy’s resume was the size of a pushpin and every realistic person knew it would be a long shot. You don’t have to be pissed at anyone for how that played out, except for Mickey himself in the very end…

I actually somewhat agree with you on Matt Rhule. He’s clearly a great politician and saying the things everyone wants to hear and that does give me pause, but there’s also clear evidence he’s working harder than anyone we’ve had here in 24 years. Being a great politician doesn’t have to mean he’s going to suck, and the same goes for Casey.

I have not seen most of Casey’s interviews because frankly I don’t care. Those are usually pointless formalities with stupid questions anyways. Bravo to him if he can pull off supposedly being “fake” to the 99% whatever that means. I see how he plays on the field and handles what is in his control and he’s usually pretty good.

Adrian was a big problem, very easy to identify in his first year here, when many bozos were saying he had heisman potential.. lmao, I told this board he was an issue, and he remained one for the rest of his career.

Casey may be a good passer, but that doesn't make him a good QB. Heck, for all his 'quick decision making' all he had to do was throw the damn ball up for Trey, and even Whipple had to chew his ass to get that happen.

Comparing CT to Ganz does Joe a huge dis-service. That kid was well respected and could pull a rabbit out of the hat when he had to. CT? - sometimes yes, but sometimes no.. 50/50 guy I maintain matches his wins totals as a starter.

Sims is going to get the job anyway, we all know Rhule said he has an NFL arm, so CT may get some mop up duty time. Hopefully we can win 6 games and go bowling this year.. (yay)

Were Purdy and Smothers 4 stars? I don't know, or care to be honest. I never stated anything about stars..

I indeed was surprised at Purdy. I was not expecting that at all. Who could?

Smothers was never a good passer. I criticized his passing on this board when he was a recruit and was lambasted for it.

Bill Busch was great.. I never said he wasn't.

You continue to leave out K-State…Adrian started most of their games and they won a conference title…sooo…?? Adrian also was clearly a different QB his freshman year. He looked incredible for a freshman. He looked stoic and calm. People were right to be hyped. It was apparent to most that our loser staff got their hands on him and he literally got worse every year. That is ALL on the staff, as further evidenced by the Big 12 conference champs.

Sims has the obvious leg up on getting the job and I think he will. But I do think we’ll see Casey this season unless he transfers, which no one would blame him for as he would start at a lot of P5 schools.

At least you’re not putting me on ignore yet as others have said you would. I do enjoy the debate.

nah.. it takes a lot for me to put someone on ignore.. repeated stuff that crosses the line type thing.

Do you think Casey would transfer? I don't really think so.. he'd be smart to ride out the season, get to play a few snaps.. I think he already has his degree, or finish up getting it, and then move on into some high paying sales job.

He's gonna be alright as far as that goes.

Lol ok…I understand you didn’t “say some of these things” I said them as evidence to bolster my argument. Do you understand how a conversation works? Generally, 4 star QBs do not both come out and look like they did when they’ve both had P5 experience. That’s evidence of a really bad staff, or one that’s been broken up and pieced together mid-season. Out of Casey’s control. His biggest mistake was choosing to come play for them. He had a better offensive staff at Texas. They had a horrible defense which lost them games.

yeah I know how a conversation works.. but you didn't state your argument.. just strawman arguements of things that seemed off topic.. personally, I didn't want CT.. but that is who Frost went after.. the portal is a crapshoot I guess. The problems with Frost and his staff were much worse than people thought. When CT came here, he praised our offense line.. I was like what? what was he smoking.. it turns out, it was just what he was supposed to say type thing.. kid wanted another chance, and got it. He probably knew what he was getting into.

yeah but for a completely different reason.. you still get credit.. but you were on the arm strength thing and don't recall anything about his confidence. His arm was indeed weak.
who could be confident when the ball comes out of your hand like the world's worst changeup?

I told everyone here exactly why purdy would suck the second I saw him throw a single pass in April 2022

you and others ignored the facts in favor of your feelings

nah.. it takes a lot for me to put someone on ignore.. repeated stuff that crosses the line type thing.

Do you think Casey would transfer? I don't really think so.. he'd be smart to ride out the season, get to play a few snaps.. I think he already has his degree, or finish up getting it, and then move on into some high paying sales job.

He's gonna be alright as far as that goes.
Lol, I know Nikki can’t see this, but how did I cross the line? Seriously, how? Just because I didn’t agree with you lock Stock and barrel? You are amazing.
