Can we please not crucify Tommy for 1 pick.

I can agree. I have read some crazy things like he must have thrown 5 INTs today. Yes it was a bad one in a bad place but he doesn't ever quit. He also made some great throws today. I was more concerned with him dropping the ball on snaps a couple of times.

Let's not forget the almost pick 6 that was dropped. It's not like he made one bad play. He made one horrifically bad play that cost us 7 and he made a few other bad plays that we got lucky that didn't burn us.

I think people were hoping for the 'new and improved Armstrong.' Every year we hear about how he learned to use his check downs or that he learned to throw it away or that he learned to minimize turnovers. That pick just showed that he is the same old up and down, hot and cold, unpredictable QB. Peoples hopes were dashed by that pick. And that is why they are so upset about one throw.

Would of could of should of. One pick 377 and 3 tds be happy not sad. I take that from him every week. He looked good.

We will have to agree to disagree there. I think his numbers look good. But I don't think he looked good. Still bad mental mistakes. Several terrible throws with poor footwork.
How do you not look good throwing for 377 and 3 tds? I respect your opinion but the Tommy Armstrong topic has fascinated me for 3 years.

Me too..they just ignore the fact on almost every play he has to figure out where the ball is going to be snapped....losing a half a second on a 3rd of his pass plays.....and they wonder why the timing is off.

Hell we loss 4 games last year where if the defense makes a stop we win.

Regardless how the QB played...it's a team game.

Amen jeans. Way too much scrutiny on Tommy.

One play matters. If the LT throws a 'look out' block and the QB gets hurt, everybody says he had a bad game. It's one play. If the refs make one really bad call, they called a bad game. In TAs case, he threw a pass that was about as bad as he could have in the red zone and it cost us 7 points.

Now I'm not saying that one play made him have a bad game. Tommy threw one really, really, really bad pass. And he also threw another really, really bad pass, we just got lucky and they didn't catch it. And he threw some other bad passes off his back foot or not stepping into his throw. His bomb to Westy for a TD was a poor throw. It worked. But look at his footwork.

People are upset with him because it's the same old mistakes and there is an obvious lack of growth.

Tommys career in a few sentences. Thrust into starting when Martinez hurt. Led comeback victories over Mich and Iowa. Soph season him and Amerr racked up the yards and 9 wins. Last year new offense new coach and pelini fiasco. Bad picks yes. This year so far so good. We will see. But let's not jump to conclusions.

Who are you comparing him to? Tom Brady? Manning? Bradshaw?

it is not the pass it is the decision ... people understand there are going to be picks ... on occasion it is going to be a tight window and the throw isn't going to be perfect, tipped balls, etc. INTs happen, but that throw on 1st down deep in the red zone when there isn't a prayer to complete it just can't happen. It is a freshman QB mistake not someone in his fourth year.

We are not questioning his passes it is his decisions .... like throwing a fade route on 4th and one against Iowa with the game on the line instead of just getting the darn first down ... like throwing 4 INTs against Iowa ... like scrambling out of trouble with a lot of wide open field ahead to run and chucking it up into coverage in overtime against Miami ... like heaving the ball while falling down for a pick 6 against Northwestern

you can have a great day passing but one or two poor decisions can wipe all of that away and cost you games ... you have mental breakdowns at every position but you can't have them at QB with the frequency with which they occur .. they cost you games

3 Facts

1. He is the best QB we have and had since Zac Taylor.
2. He will leave with most QB records at Nebraska.
3. He will probably throw another bad pick this year sometime. Lol

The rest of the NCAA QBs, I guess. I'm not really trying to compare him to anybody.

Tommy throws a lot of TDs and throws a lot of interceptions. Like 'second most in the nation last year' lot of INTs. The TDs are fun, the INTs are frustrating and sometimes dumbfounding.

What we saw today is an extension of his past. That is why people are so upset about one (really two) throws. He hasn't learned to stop making the head scratching mistakes. I don't think people would be that upset if it wasn't such a terrible decision. Not all INTs are created equal.

Farve does it he's a risky gunslinging hall of famer. Tommy does it and we overlook 377 and 3 td's. Weird. Also weird that Tommy and Farve hang out. Lol

I do respect all opinions. It's just mind blowing that we always look to Tommy to criticize. We rarely see a thread of positive yet he does so many positive things. I believe we should really look at our punting game and personal foul penalties as being more concerning.

4. He plays QB at a blue blood program and takes the same amount heat any QB would in other high profile programs ... probably less because we all know we don't have a viable backup

you don't think OSU, Michigan, Alabama or Notre Dame fans would be pulling their hair out if TA was their QB? I go back to the Brian Kelly quote when Everett Gholson was turning the ball over. .

"We've been working with him. I mean, I don't know," Kelly said. "Sooner or later he's got to take it on himself to take care of the football. I don't know what else to do. We're at that point now where it hurt us in the game, obviously, and he knows it."

He is lucky we have no other option because at times he would have been yanked. At other programs with competition at the position he might not even see the field

Wrong, but I do agree on a few points. Hypothetical is kind of a empty argument. However being QB at Nebraska is a high profile gig and I get that. Tommy gets that. He handles it well and guys like me get to defend him. He will have a great year. Team game. He will throw more picks. Unfortunately you and many fans need to be real where we are as a program right now. We are still recovering from the Peterson fiasco.

So if I watch some football today I won't see Alabama, Ohio St, etc throw a pick? Also JAT Barrett threw a pick six last week.

Overall, he had a decent game, but that was a very costly interception. It kept Wyoming in the game until the end of the 3rd quarter. Last year, it could have been a very different outcome than it was today. Everything you do matters at that level of competition.

Agreed it was bad but that is not what kept them in the game against us.

Hey, Todd Peterson was a good wr for us and never set us back.

There is good Tommy and bad Tommy. We saw more good Tommy today. Actual chucking of the ball out of bounds to go to the next play. Will the WTF plays be there? Yep, but so will plays few QBs can make. I think we will see more of the latter this year.

Listening to Steve Taylor and several callers. They are really hung up on ONE pass. Yes it was a bad pass. I see NFL QB's do it every week as well. 20-34 for 377 and 3 TD's. I like!!

The callers on that show are generally insufferable and l don't doubt you heard some crucifying TA. The numbers were pretty good. That said, I saw as much bad as good. Pocket awareness was poor, accuracy was ok, and decision making was vintage TA, meaning spotty at best. The TD to Westerkamp in the 4th for me is paradigmatic of TA's questionable decision making. He just threw it up expecting/ hoping his guy would make a play, and Jordan did. A great play. But Westerkamp was well covered and they had safety help. Here's the other thing: you had a 7 point lead, it was first down, and you were on the opponents side of the field. Why are you throwing low percentage bombs into coverage in that situation? What are the chances it gets tipped or dropped? High. Jordan appeared to get away with a bit of a push too. Just didn't make any sense. A field goal in that situation would have been very important too. The passes to Moore, on the other hand, showed the other side of TA imo.

What was bad that is equal to 377 and 3 TD's

Yeah, you keep saying that, completely neglecting the particular circumstances in which those numbers were gained, and they weren't all good. Sorry, they just weren't. So it doesn't help to keep referencing the numbers, which I already granted weren't bad. There were a lot of big plays out there. He had 270 yards at the half.

Armstrong was second in the nation in INTs last year. Second of every QB in the FBS. Think about that. Only one dude was a worse decision maker last year than TA was. So when he throws yet another boneheaded INT people get frustrated because he clearly hasn't fixed that part of his game.

As other people have stated, if was a pass that slightly off the mark or tipped off a WRs hands or a great play by the defender, then I wouldn't be disappointed with TA. Those things happen. But this was yet another headscratching decision.

You are saying he needs to run the table and throw 35 TD's and 0 picks. Now I get it. My bad.
