This is Dillingham's reaction when the officials put one second back to the clock with ASU leading BYU 28-23. It gave BYU a chance for a hail marry pass from mid-field. The pass was caught by a BYU player, but a few yards short of the end zone.

Hard to tell from the replay, but it did look like there was probably some time left when the ball made contact out of bounds. I like a good refs-doing-the-conference's-bidding theory as much as anyone, because I've seen it a thousand times. But I don't think Dillingham's QB executed the last play very well.
If they wanted to make it interesting, they should have put Jeff Simms in at the end.

Simms would have tried to throw it into the stands, and somehow missed.

Yes. She turned away from him pretty quickly when he started going ballistic. And the woman next to him holding the tablet (probably the sideline reporter) looked very uncomfortable.

They dang well did it, reminded me of when BYU did that against Nebraska a few years back. ALWAYS rush 5 in a HM situation.
