Maybe so. Do I think he’d be offered without his bro or last name? Anyone that tells you different is insane. But he isn’t his brother. Dylan’s don’t come to us every year

It will be interesting to see what he does this year as second year starter. And maybe it’s too risky to take projects anymore but if he doesn’t cut the mustard, you can move him much quicker then you use to. Plus I find it hard to think Dylan stays past his Jr season. So you could move Dayton much easier then

He hasn’t had a chance to put a lot of film together. He backed up big bro his sophomore year. So he’s started 1 year of HS football

he led Buford further in the state playoffs last year then Dylan did the year before. And Dayton probably had less talent around him than Dylan is. GA HS football is elite

He’s shorter then what people like @ QB, and shorter then Dylan so that’s part of the reason why the low offers

And if the staff is going to carry 5 QBs on the 105, I see no reason not to bring in 2 QBs in 2026. Warren and Dayton are likley better than Longval, Soukup, and Granstamd

I have no idea. Just was pointing out a few things. From hat I've read he is pretty accurate on short and intermediate but kinda erratic on long balls.
He's going into his junior year and has one year of starting. Let's see how he progresses. He has two years to get those other offers.

Yup it's definitely a catch 22. Recruit and sign guys like Kaelin, McMorris and Hall etc and we celebrate. A year later two are basically "processsed" out and the other leaves.

The old "he's likely to stick around" mantra isn't really a good deal unless the kid is really good. Borderline and below average kids will he gone in 2 years anyways. Lately we have recruited and signed many more of that version of kids than stars. Especially if we are talking skill positions. It's not been the best.

I'm not sure how we can afford to sign "marginal" instate guys moving forward. Even the ones we thought were "good" ended up meh.

I've said it in the past but the more these new 105 rules come into play the more I think you have to grade guys evenly regardless of where they are from. I'm comparing every instate OL,DL, QB etc with his national competition and whoever is the best should get the offer. If they flame out they flame out.

who knows, maybe the younger bro developes into the better football player. stranger things have happened. if after a couple three years things don't work out it;s not like we were guaranteed it would work out differently with someone else.

We need QBs in the system. The kid loves NU. Even if he doesn't play right away, I bet he would be more willing to stick around, develop and provide depth than most guys.

The roster limit is 105 and all can be on scholarship. There will be a minimum number of scholarships that will have to be used. That number will be addressed at some point. I’ve read proposals for 85-90% of allowable scholarships, athletic department wide, need to be funded. Also a minimum amount of actual dollars, I believe $6m or something like that, must be spent on scholarships. Again athletic department wide.

The problem for a 3 star guy transferring is that he might have to transfer down to "not wait" to play. Kaelin was a 4 star Elite Eleven QB who maybe has an inflated self value and he was looking at waiting until at least his senior year to play barring an injury. I believe IF we can get that 3 star area kid who wants to work on his game by growing physically and mentally while getting coached by Dana, that our chances are better of getting him to stick around. I REALLY would like to see a more athletic kid on the roster who still has some arm talent. It's a huge advantage.

We are WAY more likely to keep that area kid who grew up a Husker fan to stick around waiting for a chance to play than somebody from a distance. The 105 roster gives us a much better chance to offer a scholarship to those 3 star kids who have been going to the Dakota schools the past 10 years. How nice would it to have been to have an Easton Stick on our roster. He would have signed with us IF we would have offered a scholarship.

i'm probably one of the few guys that doesn't like moving Haarberg permanently to TE. I saw huge improvement in him from last year to this year and his run threat scares the hell out of a defensive coordinator. It changes so much in what they have to account for on defense. I get that any shot he has of making the NFL is probably at TE but damn we miss that run threat at QB.

And he's still a better prospect that a 5'8" transfer from Dordt or fumduck U. Gotta have guys on the depth chart who can physically do the job if we have a plethora of QB injuries. We need to carry at least 5 QBs IMO and without the option of walk ons you're going to have to offer kids you might not otherwise offer. You're not going to keep five 4 star kids on your roster. I would MUCH rather have a low 3 star area athlete with some potential taking up a QB slot than trying to scrounge up somebody else's leftovers at the last minute. Also take that reduction of yardage with a grain salt. His team featured two RBs last year that one’s going to TN and the other is likely going somewhere in the SEC.

You're only pulling a 3rd year QB from the Dakotas if he thinks he has a realistic chance to be your starter. I'm not talking about keeping a starter on our roster. I'm talking about keeping a guy on our roster who IF you have a disaster with injuries can come in and competently finish a season for you. We might be able to keep an area kid around for 3 years who might then decide to transfer after he doesn't beat out a younger higher ranked guy on the depth chart to be the backup. I just think relying on the transfer portal to fill out your QB depth chart is not a good plan for us. Maybe it works for OSU or Bama but i don't think that's going to work for us. By all means, shoot for the stars for the top 2-3 on the depth chart but if we're keeping 5 there's going to have to be some less highly recruited guys who could be effective by virtue of knowing the offense and receivers inside and out. I want an athletic game manager or two filling out our depth chart and our best bet for that are probably going to be area kids with few or zero P4 offers. Edit/Add: Who knows, maybe he turns in to a 4th or 5th year senior starter.

I don’t know that 2026 QB is anything to worry about. We have one and that’s ok. Between Lateef and Davila, one is likely to be decent and able to take over for Dylan. If Dayton is good, that’s gravy, if not that good then he will be a backup. Like someone said, 2027’is when we need to take 2 QB for sure, perhaps one would be a portal guy.
These days, who cares if you pass on a kid… literally, there will be 20 QBs in the portal who have P4 experience.
Gone are the days of taking NE kids because we need to keep them home… the ones we took pretty much all left. If kids don’t show loyalty, the Nebraska program sure as hell doesn’t need to..

I get it we just have completely different views on the matter and that's ok. To me it's like recruiting guys to be "backups". I'll never be ok with that. Regardless of the position I want to recruit the best guys I can. When and if it doesn't work out then I go and recruit the next best guy I can from HS/portal/JC or anywhere else

To me it's like special teams guys. You don't recruit guys to just play special teams . You recruit guys hoping they can be starters in your program. Some will some won't. Some end up on specialty teams until they can get game minutes or transfer out . But you aren't recruiting a "lesser" player PURPOSELY.

I feel like you are basically saying we recruit a "lessor" player (local at that) because he/she is more likely to stay around in case of an emergency and we get down to our 3rd or 4th QB . To me it's almost like giving up a scholarship. With the 105 limit I jREALLY just don't see a reason to do this.

I wouldn't do it in any era tbh. But if you are talking a walk on I guess I understand. But purposefully recruiting a lessor guy because you think he's more apt to stay and not transfer? I won't ever be ok with that. To me it's too much like hiring a lessor coach so nobody will come and offer more money to take him away from you lol..

Again we while I understand your premise we will likely always be on opposing sides when it comes to that. I'll always take the best player I can get. Then let the chips fall where they may.

all things being equal which they never are. good coaches seem to have a way of finding and developing more good players. mediocre coaches produce mediocre results both with records and players.
