Any updates on the studs on campus this weekend?

I don't believe he was, Slade, Filiaga and Holmes were from what I have seen.

It was smart to have Filiaga and Slade-Matautia here at the same time since (I am assuming) they're both Polynesian.

Another weekend with no commitments. January will either have major celebration, or complete meltdown.

We are waiting on about 10 kids to decide very late. All are highly rated so it is boom or bust time. If we miss out we better hope we can still get the kids we appear to be slow playing.

Actually it might be a good idea to try and put together a list of which prospects will be deciding when. FYI, dead period is from December 12 to January 11.

Corrion Ballard (JUCO, S): December 14
Thomas Graham (4-star CB): December 16
Quran Hafiz (3-star DB): December 19
Joseph Lewis (5-star WR): Jan. 7, at Army Game
Foster Sarell (5-star OT): Jan. 7, at Army Game
Jamire Calvin (4-star WR): Jan. 7, at Army Game
Chuck Filigia (4-star OT): Jan. 7, at Army Game

Damion Daniels (3-star DT): ???
Kamren Curl (3-star S): ???
Greg Johnson (4-star ATH): ???
Isaac Slade-Matautia (4-star, LB) ???
Demmodore Lenoir (4-star CB): ???
Gavin Holmes (3-star WR): ???
James "Husker" Lynch (3-star DE/DT): ???
C.J. Verdell (3-star RB): ???
Jaylin Bradley (2-star RB): Grade issues?????

Tyler Shelvin (5-star DT): LSU Commit
Elijah Blades (4-star DB): Florida Commit
Stephen Car (4-star RB): USC Commit

Any more insight or anyone I am missing?

Keep an eye on James Lynch, DL who just decommitted from USC. I believe the JUCO safety is deciding on Wednesday.

Filiaga is also Army game

Maybe. But for whatever reason the interest from the staff hasn't been there. He would commit on the spot if he had a commitable offer. Imho

Yah he would, but he could end up being a replacement for Daniels (if he chooses somewhere else) or if they slide Deontre over to cover Guy Thomas slot if he also chooses somewhere else.

He's a canary nonetheless.

I don't believe anyone should have been expecting commitments this past weekend.

I'm thinking this is pretty much the standard statement for this staff with any official visits. Lead the nation I believe in official visits but only Watts committed during an official and even there some say he committed before his visits. I know how sensitive people on this board are so please be clear that I am not saying MR is not closing well. I just think this is how he does it. I think he wants kids to go home and think about before committing on an officials.

Holmes most definitely is someone expected to pull the trigger before leaving.
I feel like he could be being slow played. Encouraged him to take other visits and be sure, while we wait for Calvin and Lewis to pull the trigger.

i don't think it is the staff not asking for the commitment. If any of those players said I want to commit, he would say ok.

I think what you are seeing is the difference in who Nebraska is competing against for these recruits.

When a guy has offers from Nebraska, TCU, and Missouri. They come to Nebraska and are blown away. With those players the school has the leverage, and can tell the recruit we need a commitment now or the offer goes to someone else.

When a guy has offers from USC, UCLA, Ohio St, Notre Dame etc all of those schools blow you away.

Secondly, those players really don't have a bad option and they hold the leverage and can take their time. Coaches tell them to take the offer or leave it and they leave it.

I think there's an important difference there between accepting a commit and pressuring a kid to commit. I think certainly the staff will accept a commit, but it would surprise me if they really are pressuring kids.

It's interesting how the QBs seem to lock in so early and other positions don't. I wonder why that is.

Most schools only take 1 QB per class. Some take a 2 but not a lot and certainly not most. So those dominos start to fall sooner when the 1st QB picks a spot.

I'm surprised we haven't picked up a commit. I would've expected one between mid September and now. Signing isn't until February though, so just gonna chill.

The picture will become more clear after the All Star games in early January.

If Nebraska misses out on Sarell and Filiaga, I wouldn't be at all shocked if they went to plan B for an OT.

Lynn Bowden is a kid out of Ohio. I think he is leaning Kentucky but he was recently offered. I don't like Nebraska's chances but he is a freak athlete.

Oh yah, I forgot about that kid.

I thought we were dropping off duffel bags of cash.... :)

As for the QB's, they are future leaders (or expected to be) so they tend to pave the way rather than be a follower.

We encourage all prospects to take other visits, so I don't buy that as the reason behind "Holmes slow play". We've wanted 5 WR's in this class from day one, Calvin & Lewis would take us to 4.

Not before you have heard from Lewis and Calvin and maybe Johnson, Graham and Bowden.

Lewis & Calvin are moot, that makes 4 of 5 wanted/needed. Johnson & Graham should be irrelevant to taking 5 WR's as neither are for sure slotted to play that spot. Bowden, meh, good luck with that one on multiple levels.

If coach Williams has Holmes further down the list, although I disagree he does, so be it.

I guess it depends on who you read. I have seen Nebraska wants 4 WR and would take 5 if Lewis was the 5th. Who knows.

As I said, i think things get much clearer after the all star games.

I've always heard 4 or 5 WR.

I think 5 had become the defacto standard after a while when it became pretty clear that Lewis might be the most likely commit of our WR targets.

Previously, we though we might fill up on a little bit lower profile targets, and fit him in at the last minute (the stretch to 5). I am not sure if the staff HAS to have 5, since it appears he would be commit 3 or 4.

Might depend on where we sit with Sarrel, Shelvin, Filiaga and of the 8 DB's we seem to be chasing.

Whatever happened with Eno Benjamin? Is he even being considered for an offer?
