Supposed to be completely independent. The LSU qb who "retired" had multiple NIL deals that were still to be honored no matter the status on the team.Wonder how the NIL money works if you are suspended or not doing the work? Does the money get suspended as well?
Gotta be attitude and or effort. Hickman was a tweener. Go rock Kearney's worldMan what a weird situation with Tyreke.. from 5* star Ohio state commit to coming here and hardly even playing 1 down of college football, including special teams.
He is 24 years old. You have to wonder if he doesn't have the study part of the student-athlete equation down by now, he may not be back. From the 10/11 video I just watched sounds like Grant just needs to concentrate a little harder on academics at this time. I hope it works out and we see him back soon. Grant has shown some real promise.

Wish we could have signed Brewington to a 10 year contract. Loved watching that guy.Brewington was a bit of a tweener, also
was unmatched in terms of attitude & want-to. probably the most fun player we had on offense last year. absolutely hell bent on concussing every opponent.
I agree with you
Suspect he was one of those who excelled in HS and unable to step it up to the college level. Or perhaps just having too much fun now being in college. It happens.Man what a weird situation with Tyreke.. from 5* star Ohio state commit to coming here and hardly even playing 1 down of college football, including special teams.
That's kinda the impression I got listening to coach RhuleFrom the 10/11 video I just watched sounds like Grant just needs to concentrate a little harder on academics at this time. I hope it works out and we see him back soon. Grant has shown some real promise.
Can't help but wonder why a kid with so much talent never sees the field.Man what a weird situation with Tyreke.. from 5* star Ohio state commit to coming here and hardly even playing 1 down of college football, including special teams.
Same for me with skiing. I went 20-25 days/year my entire adult life. Six years ago it got expensive, my knee got bad, and it wasn't as fun anymore. I quit and feared I would miss it horribly - it was part of my life. But I hardly miss it at all.For some guys I think they realize they just don't want to do it anymore and there is nothing wrong with that.
I found myself feeling that way with coaching. It got to the point where I just wasn't that excited about it anymore so I stopped two years ago and I was worried I would miss it but I didn't, in fact I hardly even thought about it. I was just done with it.
Yeah, I think sometimes you just sort of know.Same for me with skiing. I went 20-25 days/year my entire adult life. Six years ago it got expensive, my knee got bad, and it wasn't as fun anymore. I quit and feared I would miss it horribly - it was part of my life. But I hardly miss it at all.
Sometimes you just gotta get your tweak game on during golf.Yeah, I think sometimes you just sort of know.
I gave up chewing years ago, just up and quit one day and I remember being super worried about golfing because I used to love chewing while I golfed. That first round of golf came and it was no big deal at all. I did not need that chew.
Now, I did smoke some meth before and during the round, but, I didn't need a chew.
It's a contract, so it will depend on the terms of the deal. Were I in a position to offer some teenager an NIL deal, I would be sure to include language that requires them to remain academically eligible and off the police blotterSupposed to be completely independent. The LSU qb who "retired" had multiple NIL deals that were still to be honored no matter the status on the team.
That common in college athletics. At the small college level or with walk-ons, it's easier for kids to just give it up. We probably all know more local kids who went to smaller schools to play a sport and gave it up than athletes who stayed with it through their senior year. For some guys I think they realize they just don't want to do it anymore and there is nothing wrong with that.
Oh man, I have sent off so many kids to play sports at small schools and almost all of them end up quitting. They think it will be like HS again but playing say, BB at a small college is basically just playing against another team in an empty gym. That common in college athletics. Full scholarship kids with benefits have a tougher time giving all of that up. For 10 years running, the football team has had a lot of "quiet quitting" within the program.
Oh man, that was funny. Damn chew will kill ya.Yeah, I think sometimes you just sort of know.

I know what you mean. That’s exactly what I’m thinking. Hate to knock the kid but when I’ve heard him during interviews it does make sense that he might have some issues academically.
PFFFT what do you think this is? School and stuff? Higher education? Cmon.Wonder how the NIL money works if you are suspended or not doing the work? Does the money get suspended as well?

The only guy dumber than Cardale Jones in the NFL back then was the guy who drafted him….
After winning the national title, Cardale kept his word and graduated with $1.5M in his pocket from the NFLThe only guy dumber than Cardale Jones in the NFL back then was the guy who drafted him….
Nate Gerry, another idiot. Who has probably made a couple million in the NFL.After winning the national title, Cardale kept his word and graduated with $1.5M in his pocket from the NFL
What an idiot!
Agree. Would not surprise to see Grant move on. He has already done that a few times.Rhule likes Allen, Earvin and he can see Rahmir as a very useful situational player. Grant had production last year, but is apparently dicking around and Rhule is trying to correct. If I see Grant hitting the portal, I won’t be surprised.

I think you guys are confusing talent with brains… I think.Nate Gerry, another idiot. Who has probably made a couple million in the NFL.
I wish I was such an idiot!
But can he transfer? Isn't he a senior? Does he have a redshirt available? He already got his free transfer right? I suppose if he graduates he can go but that probably is not happening if his grades suck.Rhule likes Allen, Earvin and he can see Rahmir as a very useful situational player. He came to NU from a JUCO. He was at FSU, and the went to NMMI. So I think he has a free portal option. But can he transfer? Isn't he a senior? Does he have a redshirt available? Well, my brain would tell me to go make that crazy cash while I can.I think you guys are confusing talent with brains… I think.
I think you can transfer as much as you want - maybe Teddy Allen can confirmHe came to NU from a JUCO. He was at FSU, and the went to NMMI. So I think he has a free portal option.
I totally agree… It’s just that the smart ones are able to graduate and go get their money in the NFL. That’s all I was getting at.Well, my brain would tell me to go make that crazy cash while I can.
You can always go back to college (with a bank account filled with cash) and get that PE degree. But you pretty much just have one chance/time to get that big payday in the NFL.
Cardale's stock was such that he was a 1st round pick after just the minimum stint in college - a place that we can all agree is not for everyoneI totally agree… It’s just that the smart ones are able to graduate and go get their money in the NFL. That’s all I was getting at.
That’s pretty cool, and it’s easy to judge a person for a specific moment in life. Often, you don’t see the other side like this.Cardale's stock was such that he was a 1st round pick after just the minimum stint in college - a place that we can all agree is not for everyone
he then came back and earned his degree (with honors) on his own time without needing to forfeit anything in terms of career momentum
anyone calling him "dumb" or "stupid" for making an honest (and 100% true) comment is projecting their own feelings in the face of a good amount of evidence to the contrary
as always - there's necessary context that gets left out. here's Jones on his now infamous tweet:
"I remember I was in class, and I think I got, like, a B on a [sociology] exam," Jones said. "It was just something so stupid; of course I didn't feel that way about academics, and I don't. Nobody in this program feels that way, we actually take that stuff very serious around here.
"It was just a dumbass thing to do. I definitely didn't think that would happen. It was just a stupid thing to do at that time. It was something where I just got pissed because I studied my ass off."
