Glad we got the win yesterday. We were clearly the better team and should have won by more. Kudos to the defense and to EJ who really energized the running game.

But this is a bad Purdue team and we should have won going away from the get go. And our field goal kicking is the worst I have ever seen. And our defense, though it played well against an awful offense yesterday, still allows too many long drives that eat clock and keep the ball away from our offense. Our blitzes were also predictable and ineffective.

So what will the rest of our season look like? I see us finishing 4-8 at best with our only possible win being UCLA. Every other team on our remaining schedule looks to be a better overall team than we are.

We have a very mediocre offensive line and a horrible kicking game. We have coaches who can’t identify the proper running back to play.

Going to be another disappointing year I fear. I hate this. Hate hate hate. I sure hope I am wrong. Maybe some of you can convince me otherwise

I see about another 4 wins, (Rutgers, UCLA, Wisky, & Iowa) and that is probably being a little bit generous, but we have a chance against Indiana as well, so I figure 4 out of those 5 games are likely doable. Ohio State & USC are loses.

This would put us at 8-4

That wouldn't be too bad of an outcome for a second year coach with a freshman QB.

I am probably being too optimistic with the state of our kicking game.

You genuinely think we won’t win another game??? 3:34 am and you made the most ridiculous post of day.

I would! Ha. You are on to me...
But I guess you are saying I am looking for the dark lining and missing the positive. Fair enough. We will see. I am not optimistic.

Year 2 under Rhule.

I'm definitely seeing progress, and we have an all-timer as our trigger man at QB.

Last week's loss to Illinois sucked. Big time. A game we really shouldn't have lost.

And yes, at halftime of yesterday's game I had the same thoughts as everybody. "Oh shit, here we go again.".

Turns out Illinois is pretty damn good as they gave a likely playoff team in Penn State a helluva game in their own stadium. Outside of Ohio State, every team in this league looks beatable. Even by us.

"Day by day...."

How many sacks would we have had to have to be “effective”? The D got 5 sacks yesterday?

I'd guess somewhere between OP's not winning another game and some of the 8-9 win guys on here. I didn't see a lot yesterday to be optimistic about. At all. Best case scenario, 5 games left are toss ups with 2 sure losses. Should get us to 6-6 which is fine, I guess. But, yeah...

Pennsy FWIW Vegas’s has Nebraska -6.5 favorite next week against Rutgers so they think Nebraska going to be 5-1 after week..

It wasn’t pretty yesterday but I liked what we seen from the defense which wasn’t there the past two weeks..

One game at time babay!

I agree that it is one game at a time. I think next week is huge! Rutgers is the real deal and they have an excellent running game. If our defense can shut them down or slow them down significantly then I will revise my prediction upwards. it we can beat Rutgers and go 5-1 that will be a huge positive sign.

I predicted we will probably beat UCLA. But I do not think my post is ridiculous. Every team on our schedule other than UCLA is playing better football than we are right now. That is how I see it. And in close games our total inability to kick a field goal is going to cost us big time. But I actually hope you are right. I hope that my post proves in the end to be ridiculous. Nothing would make me happier. And yeah, I got up super early today. Packing for a trip...

I'm still going with 7-5. Wins over Rutgers, UCLA and Wisconsin.

But you didn’t. You said we will finish 4-8.

One thing is for certain - if you do a season prediction thread after every game you will be right after the Iowa game.

The fact that most everybody has little confidence that we can beat Indiana is concerning enough about the state of the program. How a coach can come into a lowly football program like Indiana and somehow have them propelled over the Huskers???

Then I have to remember the Huskers are amongst the lowly football programs of the Big Ten. We would need several undefeated seasons just to get to 500 in our time in the Big Ten.

So, this team, program, and season are a crapshoot. No idea what you’re gonna get from week to week. Hopefully they can squeak out two more wins somewhere so these boys can see what it’s like to actually go to a bowl game.

Tony White's deficiencies in calling defenses is rearing it's ugly head. If a team is one dimensional he has no trouble, but teams who can run and have a short passing game they carve him up. The remaining schedule is a complete crap shoot and there is no way I would predict an outcome. The remaining schedule rests 100% on TW shoulders. It could be a long season from here on out.

I’m sticking with my previous but with highlighted changes

Purdue (60% chance we win) W
Rutgers (Loss)
Indiana (Definite Loss)
Ohio St (Beatdown Loss)
UCLA (60% chance we win. Glad it is a home game)
USC (Beatdown Loss)
Wisconsin (Tossup. I like our chances at home but we haven’t beaten them in soooo long)
Iowa (35% chance we win. Anything can happen though in a Rivalry game)

Only beat UCLA 5-7
Beat Wisconsin 6-6
Beat Iowa 7-5
Beating a team I’d thought we lose to puts us in a better bowl!

We've lost one game in OT. Most of our remaining games will be close, hard to predict. I said 7-5 before the season and I'll stick with my prediction. We went up and down the field on Purdue and the defense played really well. I choose not to be miserable.

Make no mistake, losing to wisconsin in fickles second year after they overhauled their entire system would be a BAD look for rhule, especially after all the crap talk we’ve talked about that hire on here.

I do favor us in that game as of now, and thankfully its at home. But its a must win imo.

But why? It’s Rhules 2nd year too. So the fans have talked crap and that’ll be a bad look on Rhule?

Wiscy was giving USC fits yesterday until a muffed punt return completely changed the momentum.

Agree it would be great to finally
Beat those cheesy brats

Not seeing Clarkeyes as 35% chance in winning that game more like 45/50%..

Not sure I get that. Fickell took over a team that had been very successful and he was pretty much universally praised as a great hire. Heck they were pre-season Top 25 last year because he was supposed to be so great. I also hear a lot on this very board about how great and tough he is.

7-5. Our OC is going to cost us a couple games. He doesn't deserve to call plays for Raiola.

I'm fine with 7-5 if that is what they finish, but with this roster, with how they moved the ball on the ground last year, it is underachieving.

Beating wisc would be Rhule’s either biggest or second biggest win, assuming we don’t get ohiost or USC

Right up there with beating Prime who looks to have his team punching above its weight class much more so than Fickell

I’ll go 6-6 and a Dukes Mayo bowl:

Rutgers (W) - close tough win
Indiana (L) - shootout and lose a close one
Ohio St (L) - ugly
UCLA (W) - comfortable win
USC (L) - ugly
Wisco (L) - tough close loss in the end
Iowa (L) - bad matchup (running physical team)

Indiana is full speed ahead right out the gate in year one. We were told Rhule has a program and it takes three years to get good. So we’ve handicapped ourselves and have to accept it as is.
