Am I the only one who didn't know they still did "tie's" in the NFL?

I vote they go the way of CFB overtime. Which I have grown to love.

Agree. The very worst OT format I have ever seen was what the NFL USED to have -- coin flip, and whoever gets the ball first tries to get to the 35 for a field goal and the win.

Their current format is much better. It has moved closed to the college football format. Sooner or later they'll get it right and match CFB :)

Don't agree about going to college football method...

Each tie game at the end will go into double digit overtimes as NFL teams won't miss the field goals from that distance. Yes tds will be scored, but I think you have much longer overtime games if you use the college format.

Edit: but what do I know? After sharing this incredibly insightful post, I then began to hear about the missed field goals in last night's game.

Therefore, I withdraw my argument above. :)

boring game last night--i turned it off at end of regulation. both teams have outstanding defenses.

Great defensive battle. Stupid way to end game. Should have had the old OT. In the end, someone should win. Personally, I don't like the college OT of placing teams already in FG position. With the old OT you had to drive the length of the field. That gave defenses a chance.

I think it's funny that every time there's a tie in the NFL, somebody always says they didn't know an NFL game could end in a tie. The rule has never changed. One overtime period and if nobody scores, it's a tie. The last tie was just two years ago-not that long ago. A playoff game can go into double OT if nobody scores after one OT-it happened as recently as 2013 with the Ravens and Broncos when the Ravens kicked a game-winning FG 1:42 into the second OT.

The NFL could adopt a college style approach but only if they started at midfield with the ball or maybe at Best the 45 yard line. A lot of NFL kickers can hit from 55+ so starting much closer than that gives teams a shot at a somewhat make-able field goal. That also gives teams a chance to get a stop as well. They could even modify it further to eliminate the extra points in OT so that teams earn the win by converting.

I like the CFL approach...each gets a shot from the 35 if its still tied after round one they do it again and if its still tied then its tied

I like the GAA format, if its a tie, replay the whole game the following week. If its the championship game, then they replay it after two weeks. If the rematch is a tie, then they go to overtime. This would require an awful lot of rescheduling over here though.
