Ajay Allen to the portal

Did I say every player? No. Was I seriously implying the guy got hurt because he wasn’t prepared? No. Is it possible that he wasn’t prepared tho, I sure would say so if we base his level of commitment off the lackluster effort given in practice and the lack of accountability form the previous staff. Buy it mostly I was giving a comment to some idiot who thinks we are losing some great guy who couldn’t even practice hard and jumped ship when he didn’t get his way . Like 95% of these kids these days they weren’t raised to handle rejection.
For your information, Ajay is a great player. Other than CT, he is the one guy I hoped would remain at NU. He's the only difference maker NU had at RB.

While Allen was rehabbing back to health from the collarbone injury, Rhule was raving about Ervin.

I'm not dogging anybody here, but Ervin is a back who lacks vision, can't spot a small crease of a hole, and he's had injuries issues also. How long did he last in his first season before he succumbed to an injury? Not long.

I am of the belief, as most fans should be, if Ajay, for whatever reason, doesn't want to be at NU, I say he needs to go somewhere else. I've maintained that position for 50 years. We all want kids who want to be here. Some kids are contend to be backups to players who are inferior to them. Ajay is not that kid.

I hope he has a great career at Miami. I'm just glad he didn't wind up at another Big Ten school.

I like Grant. He lacks great top end speed but other then that has the potential to be a very good back. I think the coaches can clean up the dancing behind the line of scrimmage.

Ervin is 0 for 2 on the injured season chart. They seem to want to roll the dice on that. Same as that tight end we got from the state of Iowa.
Ok, hope it works out but don't count on the oft injured.
And for the love of all that's decent don't whine and carry on about injuries if things go south. We are assisting that scenario.
If you go all in on the roulette wheel and come up broke its not bad luck, it's a bad way to function.

Don't forget Ajay was hurt his only college season. It's not like Ajay was begging to stay and Rhule said no chance.

It sucks losing talent - but what’s the alternative if he isn’t pushing it? Make excuses for the guys that have more talent over the people working their butts off and listening. That’s not how you build a winning culture. Right now we need a culture adjustment over keeping a few talented players.

If Ajay was a better player, he would’ve proven it. Idk but if you don’t wanna be second place, then work hard enough to get to first. His lack of that drive is exactly why I’m fine with him not being around anymore

Let's see who has the better career. So, Ajay is rehabbing a collarbone injury and Ervin is healthy all spring and that makes him a better player? It only makes him an available player due to Ajay's injury.

When Ervin gets hurt again, and Rahmir takes over the # 2 spot, does that make Rahmir a better player? Not hardly, he's just available. He's had 3-4 years and hasn't done squat, kinda like the 2 years Ervin has been here.

The only proven back we have is Grant.

I will take Rhule eval over an old guy that is obsessed with horse racing.

If Ajay is so great how were we ever going to convince him to stay as the backup? He clearly wasn't going to beat out Grant. We should have promised him the #2 backup spot and thrown a bunch more money at him?

That’s a stupid response, Ajay broke his collarbone in September, Caleb Benning broke his collarbone in September and came back in November at the state championships and played like a P5 recruit he is. But Allen can’t recover from a break in 7 months when Caleb can recover in 8 weeks. Take a lap dipstick.

All injuries are the same. You don't suppose the medical staff makes the decision when an injury is healed enough to resume contact?

I thought Cristobal got lucky when he was at Oregon. I have never thought of him as a great coach. I think he is a better recruiter than gameday coach. I think Oregon gets a lot of high caliber players because of the Nike hype. I am not so sure Cristobal will have any better success at Miami then their past coaches.

Does EJ stand for Donovan Riaola???
Read better.

I said “one of” not “the one”.

EJ, McGuire, and DR all have question marks. If those units don’t produce, Nebraska fans aren’t going to be forgiving. I said the same thing for Held and people went crazy. Acted like Ryan was the next coming of frank at that spot, then a few years later wanted his head.

I admit you’ve got to give EJ a chance and I am. But you can also be cautious, which I am. He lost maybe the most explosive back on the team, has yet to really land a recruit, and favors a back that hasn’t looked good at NU.

Favors what back that hasn't looked good at NU? Thought he got a rb recruit from Jersey? Grant played a full season, showed he was durable, and did quite well before people figured out to just stop the run. Ajay wasn't staying to be the backup to Grant and he clearly wasn't good enough to beat him out.

And Allen was 0 for 1.

Wish he would have stayed, but if he wasn't N, he wasn't N.

Next man up.

He's only had the Spring to prove it to the new coaching staff. And coming off an injury, that's not a lot of time.

Same time as everybody else. Pretty evident that he doesn’t have what it takes. Sorry all your guys feelings are so hurt over a kid who doesn’t care about you or this team at all

True, but unless the coaches told him to hit the bricks, he removed himself from the husker equation. If he was not 100%, he would naturally be buried on the depth chart. For some reason, he decided not to stick around and show the coaches what he is made of. That’s on him.

The number one ability is availability. I think we have several capable guys left. I don’t think Miami offers Ajay what they did because they thought he would be a nice backup. That said, there are lots of good backs out there and I’m not sure he was a difference maker.

I kinda share that same concern with players that have a history of injuries. My best hope is the new strength and conditioning program will pay dividends in that area and maybe NU gets lucky, and has less injuries than in a typical year.
Injuries are gonna happen at the speed of the game and with the size these kids play at. It is about time though, for NU to start avoiding all the bad luck they've been plagued with.
