Ajay Allen to the portal

He was talented but we are fine. Lots of good backs. Honestly seeing his lackluster response to being coached was a pretty big red flag to me. So things don’t go the way he wants and he just gives up? I’d rather have a guy with less talent who is a damn beast that never quits.

He should have played. He just shouldn't have played over the guys who are now above him on the depth chart.
Not all that surprising. He followed our ex-RB coach to NU

👆👆 this is why. He wasn't our 2nd best back last year either but he was brought here by Applewhite so he obviously played. He was the most likely RB to leave in my opinion, not sure why it's a suprise to some.

The game has certainly evolved to the point where if you let yourself get too disappointed whenever a kid with talent and potential transfers, you're going to be disappointed an awful lot.

At the end of the day, we're losing a kid to the portal that has 190 career rushing yards at NU. There's still plenty of talent/potential at the position still on the roster.

Just thought a minor issue with our potential RB. With Rahmire moving up into serious playing time, he shares #14 with our projected starting QB. Who gives in?

There is a 2nd part of that video where EJ is telling him to run it back and he's just lackadaisically jogging.
He was 4th on the depth chart and maybe 5th after the spring game. Backs like him aren’t that hard to find. Physically talented. Mentally in to it?

Is “dominant contact” the reason why Gabe finds a need to run straight into the back of an O-lineman? He generally runs right in to the o-lineman getting beat the worst too.

Fun fact: the RB who avoids contact generally gets more yards. Just saying, maybe avoid contact and hit the hole might be a better message 🤷‍♂️

Hard to avoid contact in the hole...

AJ if healthy is 10 times the back Rahmir is.. this was a stupid decision by someone on the staff who valued someone 'easier to manage' vs actual productive potential. There is no way you can convince me that this was not a mistake by either the position coach, OC or HC.

You think Rhule ran him off? I think this is what happens when you recruit players from the south that basically only come here for a position coach. Same with Palmer. Same with most of the kids Mickey was recruiting. They really had no interest in Nebraska or NU.

Wasn't going to matter anyway if he had the same amount of effort as he showed in those drills on the video.

It seems he didn't buy into the new staff. Kid has talent and may pop at The U. In reality, it was likely Gabe vs. Allen for a portal entrance, as Rahmir does good work with special teams and has been productive when given the chance and Grant came close to 1K rushing in an offense that did not feature the run. Allen made it an easier choice.

This is how you fix things long term. Your thinking is short sided. Hes not giving effort, he gets buried. If he doesnt like it, goodbye. Let that be a lesson for all.

I disagree. If it was Tom running things, that kid might miss a quarter of football, but then would be starting and ripping through defenders towards a new career high.

What you have here is rewarding mediocre players like Rahmir because they are choir boys and punishing players who are actually more alpha and thus problematic. Same could be said for Yant and also that Space Cowboy Washington kid under Frost.

All of those guys had the potential to be great, and under a TO, would have been given chance after chance to realize it. We have countless examples of this working under Tom.

But under most non-development coaching staffs, they process out the talented headaches for mediocre choir boys and you get the same results as most everybody else does.

This year we are going to have basically the same offensive line and 1&2 running backs as last year and we are expecting a different result?
