Softball Jordy Bahl tabbed as D1 Softball Preseason First-Team All-American

News release via Nebraska Athletics:

Nebraska softball junior Jordy Bahl was named a D1 Softball Preseason First-Team All-American, the organization announced on Wednesday. This is Bahl’s fifth preseason honor – she was D1 Softball’s No. 2 Player and Pitcher to Watch and was dubbed Softball America’s No. 2 Player to Watch and a Softball America Preseason First-Team All-American.

The Papillion, Neb., native is the only Big Ten representative on the first team and one of six across both All-American teams.

Bahl enters her second season with the Huskers after suffering a season-ending injury in NU’s first game of the 2024 season. Prior to coming to Nebraska, the junior competed for Oklahoma, where she was a two-time NFCA First-Team All-American and two-time Big 12 Pitcher of the Year. She was also the 2022 National Freshman of the Year. Bahl owns a 1.06 career ERA, along with a .350 batting average.
Bahl and the rest of the Huskers will open their season at the NFCA Leadoff Classic from Feb. 6-9 in Clearwater, Fla.

Lincoln - Nebraska women's basketball point guard Britt Prince was named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Team of the Week when the organization announced its award winners on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The 5-11 point guard from Omaha was named the USBWA's Freshman of the Week for the first time following her 22-point performance in Nebraska's 87-84 overtime win at Iowa (Jan. 16). The two-time Nebraska High School Player of the Year at Elkhorn North connected on a career-high five three-pointers, including a clutch step-back three to tie the game at 75 in the closing minute to help the Huskers erase an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit against the Hawkeyes.

She added two free throws with 2.8 seconds left in front of 15,000 hostile Hawkeye fans to send the game to overtime. Prince added seven rebounds and a career-high six steals against the Hawkeyes in a tremendous all-around performance.

Prince, who was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, followed with an impressive 14-point, seven-rebound effort in Nebraska's 31-point win over visiting Wisconsin at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln on Monday night.

During Nebraska's current five-game Big Ten winning streak, Prince is averaging 16.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.0 steals to help Nebraska move to 15-4 overall and 6-2 in the Big Ten. The only conference losses for the Huskers have come at No. 1 UCLA and No. 4 USC in back-to-back games over the holiday break.

Prince, who has scored in double figures 14 times in her 18 starts including four 20-point performances, is averaging 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and a team-leading 1.9 steals for the Huskers.

Prince earned Nebraska's first USBWA Freshman-of-the-Week award since current senior Alexis Markowski captured the honor on Jan. 11, 2022. In between, Markowski (2022) and Natalie Potts (2024) were named Big Ten Freshmen of the Year for the Huskers.

Nebraska puts a Big Ten-best 15-game home winning streak on the line Sunday when the Huskers play host to No. 12 Ohio State in Pack PBA. Tip-off with the Buckeyes is set for 2 p.m. (CT), with tickets available now at Huskers.com.

Jim Mora calls out schools for tampering with UConn football players

“A simple note to the schools and coaches that have blatantly broken NCAA Football rules by tampering with our players in the last 24 hours. We do know who you are, we will pursue all avenues to hold you accountable. We are excited that we’ve built a program where coaches have to cheat to beat us and we will protect that program. Think hard before you tamper with our players.”

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, he can do about it.
