C. Wright + Tommi Hill

Hopefully Tommi can get healthy and the coaches put talent on the field. Ceyair deserves that corner spot moving forward. A secondary with those two on the corners looks a lot different. Hartzog gets picked on and Buford isn’t comfortable as a cover DB. Singleton and Buford high is our best look.

Gifford has played below expectations, but Bullock has been balling out. MJ Sherman seems like dead weight (correct me if I’m wrong). Not sure what’s going on with Jimari, but James Williams has been a legitimate pass rush addition.

If we can get healthy over the bye week, we should have a nasty defense regardless of the threats we face. Outside of Ohio State, we should be able to shut down anything left on our schedule.

If Tommi can play at the same level he did to finish last season, our perceived weakness in the secondary could become yet another strength.

We may not need as much out of our offense as some would think. Last year, all we were begging for was a game manager under center.

Needed win

Great win. I thought it would be a tough one and it was. I guess they all will be!

Raiola is off. Don’t know why. Hopefully regains early form soon. I hope he isn’t getting frustrated by our overrated receivers and no running game.

Special teams? 😂 But our punter is a man!

Defense is back on track! Will need to be against Indiana.

I am in Rome all this month. My internet is sketchy. Won’t be posting much.

Hitchhiking was a common way to get around for those who didn’t have a car or too young to drive. While hitchhiking seems unthinkable today, it once symbolized the freedom and trust that defined the open road in the '70s.

Next Nebraska Game - Thursday, October 10
Nebraska at Rutgers (6:30 PM - BTN)

The Goal Line Stand

What a defining moment for the Blackshirts in the game and hopefully for the season. Stopping a Rutgers team with a top 5 RB in the country was amazing. The Blackshirts have come back from a couple bad performances to Northern Iowa and Illinois, showing Tony White’s crew still know how to play dominant D.
And now the bye week is here. A chance to get healthy. Getting Hill back at CB, Wright acclimated back at LB and Butler rested up for the stretch run.
Also, Shavers, Mcgahee and Davis get a chance to review their progress and get set for their roles this second half. The possibility to pair Hill and Wright at CB, moving Buford to Safety, improving the secondary.
It hasn’t always been pretty, but the D is coming along. 5-1 record and plenty of improvement can still be made, could lead to a scary proposition to our opponents in the second half of the year. However, we will see our best offenses in OSU and USC.
Buckle up, enjoy the break and let’s get ready for a tough and exciting finish. GBR

What people are saying about Rutgers...

As frustrated some folks are about Satt, the Rutgers fan base is livid about how pass happy the Knights were yesterday. I thought they went away from their back a little soon. The Blackshirts bottled him up but I still thought he needed 35 carries, and yeah it's a lot, if Rutgers was going to win.

As for Raiola...it was just such a weird afternoon. The weather was a big factor as was Schiano's gameplan. Would have preferred some more stuff on the perimeter or some screen action. Lots of runs on first and second down that tipped their hand on third down and DR never got into a rhythm.

Win is a win though. Rest up during the bye and get ready for a paper tiger Indiana team.

Football ***SNAP JUDGMENTS: Instant analysis on Nebraska's win over Rutgers***

The Huskers held the Big Ten's best rushing offense (ranked first in the B1G at 237.8 rushing yards per game) to just 78 yards on 32 carries (2.4 per attempt). Rutgers had averaged 5.4 yards per attempt entering Saturday.

That and more in Snap Judgments following Nebraska 14, Rutgers 7 on Saturday:

Rutgers gives game away to Nebraska

Too many choke plays to mention.
Dropping an easy TD pass catch on the 5 yard line with no Nebraska defenders near him. Frosh WR Black
An apparent TD by Kyle Monangai in the 3rd Qtr that was ruled down. Not even reviewed ..shame on the B1G . He broke the goal line with the ball.
Horrendous play calling by RU .
Worst performance of the year but still a close game.
Good luck.
