Dana Holgerson's Role?

I am hearing now that DHs role with the team might be much more temporary. I listened to Mitch Sherman and Chodey McBaldy talk about how DH is essentially consulting and interviewing NU to see if he's a fit and wants to be here. That he's such a big name, that he's not going to risk taking over playcalling at a place that he isn't sure of success and the ability to ascend back into a premier HC role.....

They also said that they have a hunch Satterfield will still be here in some capacity next year, just not calling plays....There is no way that we pay a guy $1.4m to coach TEs, and bring zero recruiting chops to the table. There is also no way, career/image wise, he could take a demotion and pay cut that gives up playcalling duties. Then there is the fact that his family has already moved away.

I think these morons have been sniffing too many farts in the good ole boys club that is husker football media. Digesting every coach speak line with a smile on their face and shit on their nose. Satt is gone. DH was "hired" in an "evolving" role, while Phil Snow is still here just "consulting". I think that is intentional, and I think DH is smart enough not to commit to a situation he thought was a bad fit, and vice-versa with MR hiring DH if it wasnt. He is here to call plays starting next year.

Granted, I could be missing some information, but here is my working theory. I'm calling my shot so to speak.

1) Playcalling duties have officially shifted to Glenn Thomas. He knows the playbook. He will work with Dana and Satterfield to collaborate game plans the rest of the season. Satt will coach TEs in a dead man walking role. Glenn Thomas will audition to keep his job as a QB coach.

2) DH will be evaluating Thomas as a QB coach. Is Thomas worthy? DH will be getting a feel for the offensive strengths and weaknesses to construct a vision for the offseason and next season. He will be taking notes of the QBs and offensive weapons available both for next year development and offseason recruiting priorities.

3) If the collaborative efforts of Thomas and DH are successful, and DH feels the QBs are in good hands with Thomas as their day to day coach and him in an overviewing OC role....DH will take over coaching the WRs next year, which he has lots of experience doing.

4) Will he solo coach the WRs? Or will he mentor and "Co" coach the WRs with McGuire? He has a history of coaching "inside WRs". Maybe McGuire coaches outside and handles the majority of the recruiting, so DH can focus on playcalling, assisting with QBs, and his "inside" WRs.

5) We promote someone currently on the staff to TEs coach.

6) We potentially replace the RBs coach per DHs input?

Staff complete.

Basketball ***LIVE GAME THREAD: Nebraska vs. Bethune-Cookman

Availability report is out already, so might as well start the live game thread. Looks like NU will have everyone available who's not out for the season:

Nebraska (1-0) welcomes Reggie Theus' Bethune-Cookman (0-1) squad tonight for a 7 p.m. tip inside Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tonight's game is not televised but will be available online at B1G Plus with Jessica Coody and Andy Markowski on the call.

BCU is coming off a season-opening loss at Texas Tech on Tuesday. Here's some pregame reading until then:

Holgersen and Snow.

I admire Rhule for his willingness to bring in Holgersen and Snow. He has a pretty public mess on his hands. And he’s stepped out to seasoned Coaches for help. He gets an Attaboy from me for that.

Things have gone so well for Coach Rhule up to the last 3 games. And then bottom fell out.

Life in Lincoln will be different for he and his family now. The level of respect that they had been given is three games away from Restoration or Obliteration.

The Fan and Media pressure for Rhule has gone from 0 to 70 over the last 3 games. And it will increase with each game loss over the next 3 games.

IMO, Nebraska needs a strong finish winning 2 of the last 3 games along with a win or close loss to a quality team in a Bowl Game to reinstate that initial level of respect.

The Fan Base will become more negative, louder and more ferocious over the next 3 games without success. The Boo birds will be out for the team at home against Wisconsin with a loss to USC.

Holgersen and Snow on staff now mean changes coming at year end. Proven and Successful Coaches will join the team next year. My prediction is that 3 will be leaving. A Coach White departure would make it 4.

DH is exciting but…..

I am excited to have DH on staff, but, many on this board are done with HCMR and others, if DH does in fact become our OC I do not believe we have the horses to run his offense. Does that mean he walks away? Does that mean he takes a bunch of **** from NU fans until he gets his type of players in? Will NU fans give him the time? At this stage of his career is he willing to take that chance? I assume he wants no more negatives on his resume to get his next coaching gig? Maybe it is a chance to prove himself…..Again! If you were in his shoes, would you take on this challenge or would you wait for a better opportunity?

Farewell, friends

I’ve never been a fan of these posts, but my subscription is coming to an end here in the next several days. After 24+ years on here, I’m moving on.

So many wonderful people on here that I won’t name because I’ll forget some, but you all have helped me more than you know.

Believe it or not, after my brain surgeries, I used this place to vent my frustrations, and practice articulating my thoughts and feelings to words. Thanks to you all…it’s been fun.
