Wyoming now with 4 commited Nebraskans in this class

The point of the whole thread is that people are taking the money and the opportunity for a better shot at playing the game and not just to be a blocking dummy on the scout team at Nebraska. You are taking what he said literally and not in the context he obviously intended. The chances of a kid getting anything more than special teams snaps at Nebraska is rare. That same kid can go elsewhere and compete for a spot. That's it. That's the whole point of the thread.

Some kids will pay their way for the dream of playing at Nebraska. Great. No one begrudges them for doing that. But when he says take the money and play more than just special teams, he is talking about the 99% who won't play more than special teams not the 1% who will. I believe it is you who is looking for something that isn't there sir.

Oh my. I'm not the one that went, and continues to go, ham over a false statement. Ya, I'm the one looking for something?!

Yikes.

Please. You found a comment in the thread that was intended to be a general comment about players asked to walk on and decided to "pick a fight" by taking it literally, armed with a handful of players that are the exception to the rule.

Not hardly. I read the thread and came upon a post that I felt needed a response. Zero intentions towards my response except to set the record straight.

No other reasons, period. No matter how hard you try and create something, it's not there.

Every kid is different. Every situation is different.

If Zach Miller continues to live out his dream to be a husker, he's most likely not a top 10 TE in the NFL right now.

If Spencer Long goes to a lower level school on scholarship (or partial scholarship) he probably doesn't get the S&C he needs to be the starting center for the Redskins.

Who knows the right outcome? It's life. There are no guarantee's and no one knows the dam outcomes.

And I am sick of the bashing of our walk-on players who actually play. Not good enough to play for top 10 programs? Well apparently they are since that's the reality and they do play for a top 10 program.

Would anyone bash guys like Utter & Dzuris as much if they were rated 4 or 5 stars out of high school but yet their actual on field performance was the exact same? Trust me I can list a whole bunch of 4 & 5 stars that Utter & Dzuris are better football players then. I can also name some 4 & 5 stars that play for top 10 schools that most of their fans think suck and the only reason those guys play is because the team is thin at that position.

I will never get over the fact that fans bash 18-21 year old kids on this board who play for the love of the game. But dam you if you bash a coach whose a grown ass man whose making a very good living at coaching.

I get the whole "Nebraska is a better fit to get you ready for the next level" argument. I do however think in this day and age of every game being on TV and the scouting that goes on for the NFL, if you have the ability and talent, you will get noticed no matter where you are at. Very recent case in point, Carson Wentz. He was only a two year starter at NDSU. Granted they were a high profile FCS team, they were only a FCS team and he ended up being the # 2 draft pick. I am not sure he had any offers from FBS teams out of high school, but I could be wrong.

I am a finance guy, and I am a big advocate of having as little debt as possible, so that weighs in pretty heavy on my thoughts on this. With that said, I could not fault a kid at all for wanting to take a shot at walking on and proving yourself at a program like Nebraska either. I don't think either decision is wrong by any means.
Bingo. The NFL cares not where you played. If you have that kind of talent/potential, they will find you.

Spinner is spot on. There is no "right decision". If I had to guess, I'd say the Long brothers came to NU with the intention of working hard with the chance to play and at the least punching their med school ticket. Football worked out for both and very well for one.
How much does it mean to play at NU?
