Will boycotting our home games do the job?

Totally agree. We were told the 3-4 advantage is offense doesn't know where the rush is coming from? Well their is no rush. Our D is 3 vs 5 or 6 blockers. That doesn't work at any level of football. Our LB too slow to get home. We have so far to go to be relative it's not even a good conversation to have. Eichorst needs to be accountable to what the fix is. Coaching, players what is it!!! It's been 20 Years for crying out loud. Time to fix it.

The one thing I heard over and over again from knowledgeable posters is that to be effective in the 3-4 D, you have to have Great LBs.

So why are you surprised that we aren't a great defense yet? Is it the LB play? Is it the fact that this defense has only played 2 freaking games under this system?

I have no problem if you don't care for the philosophy, that it seems Diaco is content with bend but don't break... if you prefer an attacking D then say it.

For my money, I think I would rather be more attacking than sitting back and stopping the big stuff, waiting for the other team to make mistakes. I hope Diaco does ultimately incorporate a more attacking style. But I'm gonna give him more than 2 games to see if he can.

I will say the part that scares me about bend don't break, is the fact that most BIG 10 offenses play mostly small ball, and try to limit mistakes. That seems to be the wrong type of offense for that in my book but we'll see.

You are absolutely correct we cannot fire Riley nor should we. I think he will retire in a few years if the trajectory of the program stays the same.

Now Eichorst he can be fired and should be. The AD from a production department is horrible if he is in charge of the whole thing and all our sports suck who is to blame.

You do know once Eichorst is fired. Riley is right behind him. A new A.D. Is bringing in their guy.

Is it easier to hide poor DE play in a 4-3 or poor LB play in a 3-4. Don't know the answer. Regardless it seems like we are committed to the 3-4.

We cannot continue to get caught up in personnel situations that matches our LBs against slot receivers - to compound things I think we were caught with the above mismatch without over the top help as well. Too easy for the offense.

That's a good question as well, and I don't know the answer. Just hoping we are able to get some difference makers for OLB to make this defense really work. And to bolster the coaching if they need to be coached up.

Imo, 2019 is the year for this coaching staff. This year is going to have growing pains and I think your defense will come along as the year goes on. I didn't see your game yesterday so I don't know if they did what arky st did but were better or they found another way to score points. Your 2018 schedule is brutal but 2019 you guys get the "easy" schedule iowa had in 15 and wiscy has this year. That will be the year you should compete for the west or coaches should be asked some hard questions.

Fwiw when Iowa went 4-8, and the Ferentz fatigue had really started to set in before 15, the most popular name given for who was going to take us to the next level was Bob Diaco.
