Why not just can Riley now?

Given the release of SE, I think it's pretty clear to the general public that we're strongly considering a move. When considering a move, you start exploring interests of prospective candidates. That's what I mean by "shopping".

And I am telling you the coaching community is too small to do that. Agents represent multiple coaches, coaches have friends on multiple staffs, they simply don't do that to each other. If an agent pimps one of his clients to a job one of his other clients currently holds, he will lose clients. There are no secrets, everyone knows Riley is on the hot seat. A good agent is very familiar with what jobs his client is interested in and a good AD knows what coaches would be interested in a job.

Considering you don't have an AD who would be gauging interest?

Lastly you said to get a deal in principal, are you now walking that back? That is much different than what you are now saying is your definition of "shopping".

IF a change is to be made .... I would reach out to 1st Chryst then Brohm with a $5 million dollar offer

both run an offense that can work with our personnel

both will not come but at least I would force both Wisconsin and Purdue to pony up more money than they want to keep them and possibly have to divert funds from other football related objectives

I also put a feeler out to Richt -- 99% chance it is a no
but just like Lincoln, NE isn't for everyone the same can be said for Miami, Florida. I don't think the Neb job is better than Miami but the facilities are better. Again long shot and I would expect a no.

Not walking anything back. You said it...everyone knows MR is on the hot seat. People are talking and that's what needs to happen right now.

What about the definition of shopping vs having the deal in place before the season.

You are talking out both sides now.

There is a difference between knowing someone is on the hotseat and outwardly applying for and negotiating a position that isn't open.

Great in theory, but like I have told people in the past, this isn't Wal-mart. FBS coaching is a pretty tight fraternity, guys aren't negotiating contracts or jobs when there isn't a position open. No chance. Now if you fire the guy or publicly say he isn't returning, that is different.
Especially at the highest levels.
