Why Matt Rhule is an A+ hire for Nebraska - feat. Bruce Feldman | The Joel Klatt Show

SFDS. Scott Frost Derangement Syndrome. We are all suffering it to various levels. Rhule won't get any breaks until next season. Every time a recruit hits the portal, every time we make an offer, every coach hired or not hired is going to be under the microscope of how similar to Frost it is.

You can tell the difference from the outside people versus Nebraska people.

Interesting story about how having a bunch of players coaches roll into a roster with bad training and practice habits. They never were able to clean up the situation they walked into. And the pressure to win brought with it a lot of rated talent that were in truth reaches. The roster was great in the off season, only to be revealed as busted in season.
Rhule will have to build a team around the kids that played a lot last year, and convince those players that what he is offering is worth sticking around.

There was a very insightful comment on there about O'Leary being a hard ass. If you are a "players coach", it's a lot easier to take over for a hard ass because that hard ass probably recruited some tough kids. And there's going to be some carry over in fundamentals like blocking and tackling.

That way when a Scott Frost comes in with his finesse philosophy and Fast Fridays, etc., Frost will benefit from having kids who were previously drilled in physical play.

About 90% of this board is constant sunshine pumping or kool aid waterboarding those who arent. No idea how people are seeing otherwise

Husker fans were perplexed by the Riley hire bit national pundits all liked it...and Frost...now it's Rhule's turn. Don't make the mistake of rewriting history though...our last few hires were very well received by the media. Even Callahan for that matter. It wasn't just Klatt.

Were national pundits really praising the Riley hire? You are right about Frost. Everyone thought that was a slam dunk including me. (I hated the extension though) Don't know about Riley. I remember it being pretty negative without much media love.

I get it, it’s not popular to question the hire or the assistant coaches being hired, but I don’t see people forcing the negative nellies to get in line as much as they are saying wait and see.

The jury is out on whether this is a good hire or not. Every assistant coach named so far has been met with so much negativity that the optimists (which I admittedly am) feel compelled to speak up as well.

For the most part, those who have said “I’m gonna wait and see before calling this a good hire” are left alone. For the most part. Maybe I’m seeing only what I want to see, that’s entirely possible too.

90% of the board isn't sunshine pumping or kool aid waterboarding. I think 80% of us are sitting here hoping things are getting better and that we are competitive next year. You have maybe 3-4 posters who moan and bitch about every decision being made. Then you have roughly the same number doing your sunshine pumping.

IF Tom had been the one who hired Riley OR IF he had gotten behind it there would have been a more favorable view of the Riley hire
