Trying to determine the best city to consider visiting. I've been to many, but don't have a favorite. They are all basically the same to me. Maybe some outside input will help with the decision.

Depends on what you like doing I guess. My favorite place is Moab, Utah. If you like hiking, biking, or off-road driving this place is your jam. LOTS of scenery to take in within an hour of the town. It is a tourist town though, so it is probably best to be taken in during off peak times. I have summers available so I am always there when it is hot as the sun and all the fellow tourists are there, and it still kicks butt. I have just learned to get a motel and forget the tent camping which I did the first time there and nearly melted. Zion National Park is within a few hours of there and is also gorgeous to see. Once again, spring and fall would probably be better to avoid the earlier pitfalls described.

I've been to Zion. Utah is beautiful. Stayed in st. George, went through Zion. Went up to SLC, stayed there too. Was a beautiful trip.

We really don't visit cities. We fly to a city then drive to see all the cool nature things in that area. We visited northern California but never set foot in SF. Went to a winery, drove up the coast, saw redwoods, went inland to see Lassen NP. Headed over to Lake Tahoe. Did a similar trip to Oregon with just one night in Portland. Lots of Natl Parks in Utah. Drove up to Duluth and spent a few days along Lake Superior. We flew to New Orleans, spent a day there then drove east along the gulf to see Gulfport, Mobile and Pensacola.

Mendota, California
Real answer though. Somewhere where you can tour a battleship or a carrier. (If that's your thing). If not, reconsider your life choices.

Moab 2 weeks ago...cannot recommend enough. Kayaking down the Colorado, Arches, rent a badass 4WD ATV if mt biking isn't your thang. Tons to do.

Depends on what you want. Being in the Air Force, my favorite cities were San Antonio in TX. I loved Charleston SC. Savannah, GA. Tampa Bay was a lot of fun. Post Air Force, the Utah-Idaho is pretty scenic. I loved them for different reasons.

Enjoyed Savanah. Nashville if you haven't done that - but skip Friday/Saturday night. A lot of 20somethings and bars tend away from country music to whatever those kids listen to these days, although you can still find some at the smaller places). Otherwise, Sunday is so chill, as are the weekdays.

Haven't been, but have heard Ashville, NC is awesome, particularly if you are into breweries. But, news about spiralling crime in downtown Ashville lately leads me toward waiting on that trip. Used to stay in downtown Chicago. Hot Springs, AK was fun, particularly if the ponies are running. Otherwise, its about a day trip rather than a destination.

Depending how old you are, our 20 something kids and their friends love the area just north of downtown Dallas. I forget what its called. They also go to the stockyards area, which might be Arlington or Fort Worth? or maybe still Dallas proper.

Probably our favorite place in CA is the stretch from Huntington Beach down to Laguna Beach. Any chance we get, we spend several days in Laguna Beach area. Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida over to about Panama City is also a can't miss.

Visiited Boston 35 years ago. Always mean to get back there to visit more historical sites there - if you go, do a day trip up the coats to Salem (we went Halloween weekend, which was fun).

Family stayed there one night doing Arches.

Then stayed in Kanab, for 3 or 4. About an hour to Zion, an hour to Bryce Canyon and maybe hour or two to the North Rim of Grand canyon.
Loved the town. Good ice cream desert place, good Mexican restaurant, good Cuban restaurant. HIGHLY recommend Kanab.

Have a cabin rented bout 5-10min outside of Kanab this fall, for a week. Love that area...and I love love love old westerns and it is a blast to visit that area because of how many were filed there...

...fun fact I learned last time...actor who played The Skipper on Gilligans Island was shooting a western there when he got a request he try out for The Skipper....he walked off the set and thru the desert till he hitch hiked to California...tried out and the rest is history.

I know some here will knock some cities but I can enjoy the city and it's sites and food, while separating that from its potentially progressive shit policies.
On an easy coast trip, DC was meh but I think you've got to go there at least once. NYC, GREAT food and iconic American sites. Boston, very fun city, loved Fenway, the history and some decent food.

Kudos to you, because I cannot. Would not go to California or New York or Portland if it was all expenses paid.

there's an interesting museum of Moab film history on the Colorado. I'm sure you've been, but if not it's worth an hour or 2 (good heat of day activity)

also the sport climbing on the banks of the river is insanely fun down there

Short Fun Trip

Deadwood, SD
Las Vegas, NV
Nashville, TN
Lakr of the Ozarks (Missouri side not Arkansas)

For Weather (USA only)

San Diego, CA (Nothing even close IMO)
Maui, HI

For Views

Yellowstone Montana Side
Estes Park, CO
Frisco, CO

Those are the favorites I have been too

Overrated

Daytona Beach, FL
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
San Antonio, TX (River Walk is nice though)
New Orlean, LA
Charleston, SC

Of all the places I have been and money/politics played no role. I would live in San Diego over any other City

Well I do think it's relative to the city and if you've been to the city ever.

NYC was worth it to me to see the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building etc at least once.

San Francisco? I would like to see it. From older guys I've talked to that loved San Francisco in the 70s, 80s I'm sure it is a sad shadow of its former self. But still iconic enough to see once.

Portland? What the f@ck is there? F@ck going there. Lol.

I figure I'm visiting these places staying away as much as possible from the scum. I'm not living there.

That being said, San Francisco or Yosemite? Yosemite again over seeing the Golden gate etc.

Just to many cool places to waste my time with the places I listed. I know I won't change the world, and that's OK. I will also never drink another Buttwiper.... they'll survive to....but i'm going down swinging.

Go west. Southern Utah, Arizona or New Mexico, even possibly Big Bend in Texas. Spend most of your time outdoors camping for free on BLM land. Don’t encounter another person. Do it a couple times for a few weeks every year. Very therapeutic.
Huh, the grifters Black Lives Matter organization turned out to be, I'm surprised they let you camp on their land for free.

I kid, I kid. Bureau of land management I know.

If you're looking for fun cities to party in. .

Atlanta is really underrated in my opinion.
Miami is what LA was 20 years ago.
Austin Phoenix and Nashville are all great party towns too.
