Where has this offense been?

Bottom line. In a game, which "most" people felt going into was 2 subpar offenses with above average defenses that would result in a 20ish type score to win the game.

So, we are in a 7-7 tie IN THE FIRST QUARTER and we are already out of our challenge, and with a minute to go we have ONE time out left....in the first quarter!!

Maybe Rhule's in game mental freeze ups account for the fact ever team of his has always lost 3-4 games a year. We'll leave the "difference maker" head coach moniker in late game situations to the Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Barry Switzer, Tom Osbornes of the world. Not the Matt Rhules'.

I still say, since he was a walk on, as a player he was never exposed to real stress in tight games and it affects his ability to function mentally when the heat is on. JMO.
Rhule definitely has looked tight on the sideline. The little bit I saw him yesterday he looked more relaxed. He’s been under tremendous pressure since that Illinois loss really. Indiana ramped it up even more.

But, I still say, had NU beaten Illinois and had 6 wins back then, Satt still would have been calling plays yesterday. Rhules one and only objective was to win 6 and be bowl eligible.
6 wins was the elephant in the room but Rhule hinted at bigger goals when we were at 5-0. I think you’re maybe right about Satt still being the play caller but Rhule was publicly frustrated by Satt’s play calling after the Illinois game. Even IF we beat Illinois, the 44 passes against Indiana I believe convinced Rhule that we HAD to make a change.

As a fan, I feel much more relaxed going into the Iowa game Friday. Unfortunately, I expect the team to feel the same way.

I think the offense will be operating with confidence. I imagine Dana is telling them Iowa is an opportunistic defense that lives on turnovers and tipped balls that are intercepted. I bet he is lecturing the receiving corp to get that ball in hand and pull it in. We don't want to resort to the things that have plagued us in the past. Time for another step forward offensively.

I'm afraid that senior laden defense will feel like the mission has already been accomplished. Too bad they gave up 400+ yards to a poor Wiscy O.

Prediction: Haarberg ran the ball 2 times against USC and 6 times vs. Wiscy. After one or two carries by HH, he will take off to the right, and pull up and throw a pass to a wide open receiver for a long gain or a touchdown. He just has to handle that ball the same as when he's gonna run it in order to suck that safety in on run support. The first time NU runs that the pressbox will be watching to see what the secondary does, then the 2nd time, HH will throw it. Maybe, maybe not.

We never were 5-0.

Haarberg at least needs to hand off if not pass it once.

You’re so full of sh## on this that your eyes have turned brown.
You’re kind of full of sh## too. Rhule’s poor choices got us in the trouble. Matt hired a child with no experience to run one of the most difficult spots on the field @ WR, which has cost us many wins. Matt hired one of the worst offensive coaching staffs I’ve ever seen. At least Matt was smart enough to fix it vs dying on the hill.

The worst thing about you, and you’ve been wrong many many years about prior coaches, and many times you’ve done victory laps prematurely. you’ve never learned to tap the breaks. Now you and Kong are opposite sides of the spectrum. Truth is it’s somewhere in the middle. This staff still needs helps. DH is just the start. A big start but we still need work. Remember Iowa put 42 on Wiscy.. this isn’t Watt brothers style Badger D. Don’t want to take away from progress at all. It’s great to see but I guarantee you that DH knows massive work needs to be done. That starts in a few weeks with installing DH’s offense during bowl practices. Then it goes on to make upgrades at coaches, primarily @ WR. The progress we’ve seen with Banks is due to DH, not skippy.

Rhule needs to stay away from play calling and help out on O-Line and become a CEO type of coach and allow DH to run the offense. Is he humble enough to do that? God let’s hope so because he could be a great man for the job here.

You are a company man. A yes man. And that’s ok, we need half glass full people too

I still think we need better wide outs. Lord knows next year will need to replace a lot of ppl on defense.. maybe some of that is good, some bad? Same on the offensive side.

IF we get to keep Dana, man I am wondering if we don't see some serious roster flippening going on.. (yeah, that's a word I made up).

What will we need for next year? people on both sides of the line, lb's, wr, db's?

Someone must have a good pulse on what we would need to upgrade what we got and who we are losing to eligibility.

I'm not so sure he is a good coach. He is certainly no worse than average but we are paying for great. My opinion can change but for the last 2 seasons I've always heard from him it's never a coaching issue, it's always up to the players how far they go, after bringing in the worst OC available. It led people to believe we had very little talent on the roster and strength and conditioning was an issue. Holgerson dispelled that notion in very short order. This should have been a 10 win team and Rhule looks really humbled now. Probably a good thing. I don't think he can afford for DH taking another job somewhere else next season.
Good coaches hire the best assistants they can get. The same people who downgrade Rhule for hiring Satterfield will not give him credit for making a timely move with games remaining. It has worked out well. Much was made last weekend about Dana H. calling out the receivers for not blocking and the backs for not hitting the holes. Rhule has called out players too. 90% of it on both accounts is done in private. That is coaching. Players have no idea what their best level of performance is. They have to be pushed to that level. Rhule has also done well in the areas of team building and recruiting in my opinion. And no he is not without fault. I called him a good coach.

Some guy signs up a month ago and gives us a history lesson on one of our best contributors.

I think most people recognize Holgerson’s ability as a play caller and OC. Does anybody believe that Dana comes to NU with 3 games left for anybody but Matt Rhule? One thing Rhule is exceptionally good at is fostering long term relationships. That’s a big deal in coaching and life and I also believe it will pay dividends long term in recruiting and staffing.

What other head coach would demote his OC/play caller then keep him in the room for the rest of the season? It seems counter to everything we see but yet it seems to be working. That’s a credit to Rhule and yes Satterfield too. We saw our TEs play very well Saturday other than Fidone’s false start. That’s a credit to our coaches and the development that has happened there.

Speaking of, has this already been discussed on this board?

Lol

Of course. If Sonny Dykes was made to abandon ship 9 games in, he’d have happily stepped in. One of probably dozens of calls he’d have taken.

The real question is why Rhule insisted against every possible shred of evidence Satt was worth a shit to begin with.

Or why - if your fan fiction is accurate - he waited an entire month and multiple losses to make a change? (thank you, AD Dannen, for showing us what decisive leadership looks like!)

Great win over a terrible wisc team. Team looks rejuvenated.

We’re 1-1 with Dana in the room - directly in line with Rhule’s career results.

Now go win on Friday! We are 4 point underdogs to a team starting a walk-on linebacker at QB for crying out loud.

Their starting QB is back.

Christ, now we have to beat them or iowa is going to want a 30 for 30 made about this guy if he goes 7-12, 89 yds and a TD for a 7-3 victory over us.

Are you even happy if the team wins? Seems like you're against about everything.
I’m so happy Dean I want to win more

The more we win, the farther we put Rhule’s ghastly start and disgraced former OC in the rearview mirror
