When will Nebraska have IT'S set of student demands???

Hey Spartan - I am going OT on you. What can you tell me about Collegiate FB? The head coach at Halstead is a friend. I gave him his first head coaching job and coached with him.

Same could be said for every company, school, team, etc... all you can do is have good leadership who provides open discussion and cares about student well-being. If you're suggesting the Missouri incident came with no cause, you are mistaken. As you have seen from Perlman's statement, he is taking this issue seriously and is open to dialogue. That is the key difference from the Missouri situation.

You missed the article(s) detailing all the meetings that were held with the president who was eventually forced to resign. Like lots of meetings, with everyone.

I can tell you it should be an incredible game! I would feel a lot better about it if it was in Wichita! I would imagine that it will be a PACKED house, and emotions will run high. Historically, not tons of love lost.

I DO have two funny Halstead stories....actually three.
*When my youngest was a senior, he was our qb...we opened at Halstead and that year they were terrible. EXactly 35 seconds into the game, a fan from their side yelled out " Call holding! THEY'VE BEEN DOING IT ALL GAME!!!"
* A year later, they had a kid on their team who had been having run-ins with the coach...(we were not the opponent)....anyway, the kid intercepted a pass, ran it back to the house, and then LITERALLY kept on running to HIS house...he quit on the spot.
* in 1996, we were #1 in the state and ranked #1...they were 6-2, but very good...only one team went to state in those days. They beat the tar out of us 68-7...that is correct...68-7.
There was celebrating a plenty that night in Halstead.
BUT their best was yet to come...when we returned in the winter to play basketball(we crushed them, btw), their entire student body sat with coats on through the entire girls game. But when the boys game began, they shed their coats to reveal tee shirts that said, on the front(if I remember this correctly)...US 68 ...and on the back...YOU 7. I laughed pretty hard at their cleverness!

There is evidence to suggest that the students were egged on by staff, to force the Presidents resignation. They weren't too keen on an outsider and non-alum being appointed for the job.

he did seem off on knowing how college football works...I just posted it cause he seemed to document what happened pretty good..

Are you talking about TIm Wolfe? He was raised in Columbia, his dad taught at Mizzou and he went there himself. Maybe I'm missing something in your comment

tru??????????????????? no comments???? Some of my best stuff.....:)

Thanks!!! Not fishing for love, but those were great moments...

How old were you in Goddard? I have a Goddard/ Halstead/Collegiate story...

Born in Wichita and attended grade school before we moved, but went back all the time since that's where all of our family was. Loved that area. My grandpa was a custom harvester down there and everybody knew him. When I hung out with my grandparents in that area I felt pretty special. Those were awesome times.

OK, as you might know, my school is not well loved because of perceived advantages (some real, some very false)...well, the good people of Halstead seemed to hate us even more than most(even AFTER we let school out to help with the clean up after their epic flood). So one day, I'm at a tennis tournament at Goddard High School with my team, and as the kids are leaving on buses to go home, a kid rolls down his window and screams "Collegiate sucks!!!!"...Well the Goddard coach(the late John Markham) was a good friend of mine AND the PE teacher for the bus yeller, so the next day, he gives him a detention...but he says to him" Why did you do that?" and the kid says "I'm originally from Halstead...we are taught to hate Collegiate at a very early age...I couldn't help myself!"......

I laughed then AND now.....

Stef, I support you getting shot.
I'm looking you in the eyes, you'll notice a flash, you won't hear the bang.

I don't know Spartan, I have read some whoppers in my day but this..................... If you weren't such a great Christian person I would wonder.

I actually spent summers as a youth in Halstead, never really gave the town much thought. Not much there, hardly even a place to eat. Nice school though. The friend that is the FB coach is in his second year there. I hired him as head FB and BB coach several years ago when I was out west. I coached FB with him as well. Great guy and loves kids and holds them accountable. I don't think there will be any trash talking at least there won't be if he knows about it. His kids play under control, don't panic, and are very athletic across the board. A special group from watching them the last two years.

He never mentioned anything about any rivalry between the two schools just that they were eventually going to meet each other in the playoffs sometime. I thought their main rival was Hesston.

Being an old principal and AD I have been on several discussions with KSHSAA members and leaders about the advantages of private schools although we never played any while I coached or was an administrator. I have known some coaches/AD's at privates and they will instantly tell you they don't recruit because that is illegal in Kansas. There was a push at one time, and some states apparently already do this, to make private schools play up a class from where they are. So if you are 3A you might go 4A DI. I don't know. I am old now and such things are not even on my radar. Last spring I picked up the KSHSAA journal and the main article was on the use of drones in sports. I thought geez, I am glad to not have to worry about some of this stuff any longer.

Someday, and I have this on my bucket list, I want to come to Wichita just to meet you. I am retiring at the end of June so I may have some extra time on my hands to kill. You can show me around Collegiate, I love schools.

I would consider it an honor!!! Lunch will be on me!!!!

AND all the stories are gospel true....

....you KNOW someone is thinking about it....:)
I'd just like to see the end of heightism in Memorial stadium. I'm demanding the creation of a Big and Tall section in the stadium. I can't help my height and am offended and hurt (maybe even traumatized) by the lack of leg room in north/south stadium. "Hey-hey...ho-ho...knees in backs has got to go (repeat)!"...
