What was Eichorst thinking?

Can someone please rewind and share the whole process as to why we ended up with Riley?

From what I remember, Pelini was fired and not long after, Riley was suddenly hired to clean the bad act of Pelini (which I think it's over exaggerated).

Were there any other candidates? Just what the hell was our AD thinking??

From what I heard he listened to Alvarez. Apparently at some point Alvarez either considered trying to hire him, or he was at the top of his “just in case” short list.

Why he went lone wolf and not hiring a search committee or headhunting firm showed his hubris and lead to his downfall.... let's watch and see where he ends up next--

SE thought (for sure) that anyone could win 9 games here. He really did. So why not hire a guy that is nice and easy to work with so that he didn't have to hide in his office anymore.

I have no idea what he was thinking considering Riley's track record. His last 5 seasons at Oregon State were pretty much just like this - 1 bad year, 1 good year, 1 bad year, 1 good year, 1 bad year. What made it even worse is that there were coaches out there that ran a similar offensive scheme to what Nebraska had been running so it could've been a quicker transition to a new coaching staff. None of it made sense then, none of it makes sense now.

Perlman was thinking he wanted Bo gone and hired a guy to do it for him. The fact that it meant NU was going to be coached by the reincarnation of Bill Jennings did not matter.

He also resented the fact the when people thought of UNL, the first thing they thought of was football. He was happy to continue to cash the checks the football program was writing, but he wanted the program put in what he considered it's proper place to be while he created, in his mind, the 'Harvard of the Midwest'. In other words he was a clueless academic.

I remember think the day Riley was hire. "who did we just hire" and I had to go google hime to find out who he was. Then I did research and said, "why in the hell did we hire this guy he is horrible" AD 101 if the fan base has to google your new coach hire, DON'T HIRE THEM!

When you hire an introvert who doesn't like to be seen or heard to a very public leadership position, it's not shocking that said person doesn't have the insight into the qualities that lead to successful hires.

I agree, and I've been having nightmares that the Moos is going to hire a golf buddy of his that I'm going to have to google.

Forget introvert or extrovert.. Just give me brains and common sense. Can't believe that Eichort/Pearlman took advice from Alvarez.. That there set us back 6 years.

I think Moos will make a good hire. He's seen the mistakes that were made, hopefully, and will get the best up-and-comer hire he can make given the candidates
