What do you tell visitors this weekend?

I hope they won’t delay if a change is in the works. I don’t want to bring in recruits disingenuously. I don’t think the recruit would appreciate that, and I don’t think it would be a good look for the university long term.

If we make a change, do after Black Friday.

The more I think about it the more I think Riley is back. It makes way more sense for a new AD to "look things over" for a season because that means that new AD also gets more time.

I purposely used "admins" and "decisions" in plural to mean CFB not just NU. I had somewhat moved on from the OP and was going to the next step.

Will schools wait until after bowl games to make (announce) their decisions. Certainly would be disingenuous to fire after signing, but business is business (a sad commentary on our society actually).

My opinion is that coaches who "deserve" to be fired will be immediately after the season. I don't think anyone will wait until after signing day because those recruits can get the NLI voided anyway. So tricking the kids does nothing for you. If they decommitt in December at least you have a month to find a replacement. If they leave after signing day in February, you are screwed.

You still believe kids are coming here for the education or the environment or the tradition, many of these kids can go anywhere they want to go, the education, the tradition, and the environments are not going to be the deciding factor. It just simply isn't. Throwing the bones is cool because the fans love it, but every top school has something that is cool. Most top programs are selling out their games, most top schools have tons of tradition. The coach is the tiebreaker. Nebraska will still get some good recruits if they make a change, but Bookie and Parsons won't be in this class if Riley and staff is gone.
They probably won't be in this class if Riley stays either.

There isn't any good way to get recruits here if there is a strong perception that Riley is getting fired. If we beat Wisconsin things will get easier. Even if we lose to OSU and PSU, we can still sell recruits on the idea that Riley is coming back.

But we need to finish strong. Recruits aren't stupid. They know why Eichorst got fired.

Damn... we need to win Saturday in a huge way.

SP screwed up royally because he didn't fire Frank right when he took the job after Frank's seven win season. Then he fired Frank the next year when his team had ten wins.

SE screwed up royally because he didn't fire Bo right after he went 8-4, losing to Iowa, and begging to be fired. Then he fired Bo the next year after winning nine games and beating Iowa.

Both were big mistakes by ADs giving one more year when they knew they were probably going to pull the trigger the next year anyway.

Solich won 9 games his final season, and so did Bo (9-3 for both coaches at the time they were fired). Just for the record.

Otherwise, you are right I think... but hindsight is 20/20. I believe both ADs were expecting the coaches to be bad the next year, which would have more than justified their firings. It backfired on both of them.

You tell them they don't want to come here, good recruits don't want to be in Lincoln, NE. They'd rather go someplace exciting like Boise or Tuscaloosa.

I get what you are saying and I don't think we compete in recruiting against Boise, but have you ever been in Boise? I think Boise is truly a cool town.

Solich's 2003 "team" had ten wins. And yes both those AD's thought the coaches would make it easier on them. They even made it more difficult. Bo needed to go in 2014 too...enough said. Solich deserved another year after winning a bunch more games in 2003. He got beat by UT and KSU fairly badly (not blowouts like we have seen recently) and the loss to Mizzou came after having the lead in the 4th quarter.

The issue is not to prolong the agony if you believe a change is needed. Make the hard call and stop letting the program twist and flounder.

I agree with you... it’s a tightrope you are walking. But if Solich loses 6 or 7 the next year, no one cares if he is fired. If Pelini loses 6 games, no one cares if he is fired.

The ADs waited too long hoping that they wouldn’t appear to rash in their firing, and it backfired, especially if it was inevitable.

And Solich only won 9 games. In the past you repeatedly credited Bo with the 10th victory to make his 10 wins a season argument, so I’m not giving you 10 wins for Solich or “his team.”

OK...At least you are giving Bo that win. Now we will be able to show that he really averaged 10 wins a year over his Nebraska tenure.

Even if it is announced that Riley is retained by the early signing period, I believe many committed recruits will wait to sign in February instead of December. Why sign early when the coaching staff could still be let go after the "bowl" game...assuming we get to a bowl.

Recruits have more options to wait and play the field before signing now.

The first December signing period could be extremely lame for Nebraska this year.

That is a completely different argument. But keep on chasing my Purple-headed Love Warrior around the board if doing so provides you pleasure.
You're delusional. I don't care whose name shows up. I respond to posts I disagree with.

It will be interesting to see what percentage of recruits use the early signing period across all schools. And I don't know if it will be prevalent or not, but if early signing is popular, I can see schools waiting to fire coaches. Who knows.

For Tuco or really anybody. The last I know of, NLI is signing to a school (not a coach). If an athlete wants out, they ask the school for release, which is usually answered with "no". They appeal to whatever committee/board and the answer is usually "no" again.

Most of the time if a player wants out of the NLI, it is granted. Schools don't want kids that don't want to be there, especially if the situation involves a new head coach. They may try and limit who they eventually sign with, but they will usually get a conditional release at worst.

There is really no rule that says a player has to sign an NLI. But signing an NLI protects the players and guarantees the school will have a scholarship for the player. A player could simply enroll in and attend classes in June when the rest of the players report and as long as the school has a scholarship available, no NLI is required. You don't see it ever, but technically, it isn't required.

As far as the early signing period goes, Nebraska is in on several players that are early enrollees, those particular players will not have the luxury of waiting until February since classes start in January. If they wait until after the bowl, which I don't think anyone will do, the early enrollees would have to choose to attend the school anyway, find another school that has an available scholarship and can take them as an EE or wait to sign in February, not enroll early and start up in June with the rest of the class.

Sure we've had a rough patch but the way the players and coaches have responded is really beautiful and I am just so moved.

I've been in this business and have seen so much but being here is like a religious experience if you believe in that stuff.

Your mama will be happy to know you won't be hurt in practice because we only have contact on game days.

We won't let those upperclassmen push you to hard and hurt your feelings and we don't allow pushing and shoving and things like that.

For your protection and my personal reputation we have Title IX a chaperone approve and document any relationship you have on campus or anyplace else within the US.

You can take a knee anytime you like except to pray.

We don't do dope collectively and have implemented a support team to help you choose when and were is the best places to partake.

We are here for you!

The guys that will sign early will be the early enrollment kids. There supposed to be here what, January if I’m not mistaken. And Riley still being here is a very good sign he will still be here start next season, unless he gets blown out a few of these final games. I hope we win and beat the Badgers but we could lose, I just don’t see them “boat facing us” like one poster said. Riley has set us up well the past few years against the Badgers and took them last second scores to beat us, and I expect the same this Saturday NIGHT at HOME. We always play big at home night games.

Not sure about all the recruits, but Bookie won’t join us if Rileys gone, Tate Wildeman won’t join us if staffs fired (he picked us over Iowa because of Diaco) and Parsons, he definitely won’t pick us if Rileys canned because Bookie will flip and the staff he’s close with would be gone. Now Josh Moore, I think he has grown to love the Huskers in general along with that staff. We MIGHT be able to keep him with new staff. But Bookie, Wildeman, KJJ won’t come back and there might be a few transfers coming like Gebbia and maybe Lindsey if Rileys fired. Just saying that’s my guess.
