Thinking objectively and not as a fan, if you were a HS player OR a prospective head coach, why would you choose Neb vs another school?
Many advantages Neb had at 1 time are gone: all Power-5 programs have weight rooms & good facilities (ours may be better than many, but not THAT big of difference like it used to be); Neb used to be able to accept non-qualifiers (Prop-48) but that rule is long gone; we used to sell going to bowl game every yr but now there are 40+ bowl games; we used to sell being on TV but past 25 yrs seems almost all Power 5 teams have their games on TV. We used to be able to sell being a top-15 program every yr....but hasn't been that way in almost 2-decades. We used to be able to promote award winners, but other than SUH, we've not had a player win AA let alone an award since Crouch in 2001.
All I can come up with is: crowd size & sell-out streak (both signify football is very important and there is support...but also pressure) and academic support is still on bleeding edge. For coaches now that we are in B10 we have lots of $$ to dangle. What else?
