Welcome, "Outside Eyes"!

If everyone is tunnel visioned to the same tunnel you can never figure it out. I would notice in the judges scores that people in academia hated my designs because I did not bow down to their one drummer thoughts. Strictly designers were not much better but liked my creativity. The design build judges loved my work, they saw that I did not go with trends or the certain 25 plants academia loved. I was on the cutting edge of new plants and products.

If everyone on your staff think identical and don't look for new ideas or wrinkles you get locked into tunnel vision. Maybe there are too many yes men on staff and need thinned out.

Big 10 games rushing so far
Illinois- 103 yds, with sacks 48 yards (L)
Purdue- 161, with sack 153 (W)
Rutgers- 135, with sacks 97 (W)
Indiana- 81 yards rushing, with sacks 70 (L)
Ohio State- 125, no sacks (L) Haarberg -4 rushing 121 total
UCLA- 127, negative run by Lloyd and Raiola sacks 113 total

Who needs a consultant? The attempts per game are largely 50/50 run pass except for wins against Rutgers, Purdue. Those are the only BIG games so far to have more rushing attempts than passes.

lol, this is an admission that he doesn't know what to do..

Now in some ways, that is smart to say. Nobody generally beats up a guy who admits he doesn't have all the answers.. they will beat up the guy who pretends to know it all.

The main reason why I still don't like what he is saying here, is most Nebraskans can see that the OC is a problem. And Rhule seems to stand by his guys.. so in a way, he's being sneaky and avoiding the obvious elephant in the room, and that's why I call bs on what he's saying here.
Most? Most was after the Illinois game. It is damn near everyone after the Indiana game. It was everyone after that joke show we saw on Saturday against UCLA.

Ffs equivalent to a corporation bringing in an outside firm to look at the companies failures before they have to file for bankruptcy. Ie. (Fire Rhule). Ridiculous

Ugh, yeah. In every business situation I've ever witnessed, when they get to the "bring in a consulting firm to try to fix our problems" stage, it's just a bandaid until bankruptcy. Either that, or you're replacing the CEO with a complete overhaul, which will be the case here. Hate to say it, but this feels like a kiss of death move by Rhule. Probably the most disheartening feeling I've had in the last 2 years with this program. He'll get another year and then he's toast. And rinse and repeat

The last paragraph is a 101 on how to throw your players under the bus.

Edit: here’s the paragraph because it doesn’t show the whole thing on the twitter link.

"This is probably the first time you guys have heard me say: The players have to play. They have to play. They can't just say 'well, did you read what they're saying about Satt?' You are Satt. You are the offense. You're out on the field."
Someone has to be the “fall guy” for players not performing to a standard. All fingers should point to Satt. And if Rhule is the lone guy pointing at the players, he should instead point the thumb back at himself, because he’s next in the chain of command.

These last 3 or 4 games it seems to me that Raiola has placed too much pressure on himself and that the coaches have too, making things worse. It has caused him to play too cautiously. I hope he can recover his sense of having fun out there again and to just play football and let his instincts go.
The problem is we all think DR is a stud 5-star QB. He may turn into that but right now unless he has elite talent around him, he is nowhere close to a 5-star QB. We certainly do not have anywhere near enough talent for him to succeed and he is not good enough to overcome it. At least this year.

probably just me, but I would never admit this in a million years

completely emasculating
You know the coaches are all saying, "Damn, now that Matt has publicly said that, I guess it means they'll be looking at my coaching ability and my position groups performance, too."

All I have to say is they're making from 300K to over a million + a year. You damn right they better be under review also.

But in the meantime, we'll keep playing the same 15 guys on offense.

no single player can carry a team

watch KC tonight - they'll be under center with Mahomes operating the league's 9th most run-heavy offense and making big plays off play action

this is and has always been The Way

This is actually very welcome good news. It means Rhule knows his job is on the line and that the honeymoon with Husker fans is over. He knows that Satterfield is not getting the job done. It will be interesting to see if any changes are made in the next two weeks. My guess is that we will see some new wrinkles on offense against USC.
He knows there’s a big problem and a the problem is likely his close friend. He wants somebody else to tell him that so he can justify making a change.

I didn't say carry I said overcome. There are a lot of good and great QB's in the NFL. Only a handful can overcome lesser personal or bad coaching and still get wins.

Well, this board full of expert coaches. I'm sure your flag football coaching prowess will get you the job.

That's the thing, it's not even a handful. It's zero. Zero qbs on earth overcome poor personell and or play calling.

Bullshit. On paper he has a lot of talent. It isn't being used correctly and I feel we didn't even need Banks and Neyor to come in to start. We just needed depth.

Defenses know if we are running or passing based on OL lining up and defenses know we recycle routes frequently and what routes we run out of what formations. We don't even make it difficult for defenses to stop us and that is just pre snap. I almost wanna give grace to McGuire for this absolute clown show of an offense he has to prepare receivers for, but no pack your shit and get experience elsewhere.

I wanna see Rhule succeed here but this is a steaming pile of BS. I feel like we're getting fleeced with unnecessary add on charges.
Who says where the money if any is coming from to pay Rhule’s colleagues to evaluate the program? It’s an EXTREMELY normal and healthy practice in business and academia to do this. I believe Dannen and Rhule want confirmation of what they already believe needs to change. Critics of Satt should be happy they’re doing this. Usually these deals lead to personnel changes.

I had a landscape construction business for over 25 years. I would enter my designs and installations into competitions to help see my flaws with outside eyes (three judges per entry). It hurt to see some of the remarks and criticisms, but I was too close to the flames to see the fire. Once I swallowed my pride and licked my wounds I got better as a designer and an installer. (I did win some awards)

I am sure Ruhle is too close to fire. Hopefully he accepts the critiques and implements what he hears. It takes courage and faith in your system to accept criticism. Smart move.
Definitely a smart move. Every good CEO and leader gets outside perspective when things are going both good and bad. If you are standing in the trees, you can seldom see the forest. He is too close to it. Good move. Can't wait to see what changes.

Agree, it also give Rhule some cover if he wants to demote or dismiss Satt.

Don't you think the alarm bells should have started going off in a scoreless first half agains Purdue?

Not disagreeing with you, rather asking you and others, shouldn't that 1st half have given you pause on exactly what the hell we were doing in the opening quarter against a very poor Purdue team?

It's understandable to get shut down my both OSU and IND on the road, but Purdue, Rutgers and now UCLA? You would think NU would score at least 1 td against a couple of them, instead, we play an entire quarter against UCLA at home and have 3 plays and 2 yards total offense. Hello????

Saw this on Reddit with a line from that movie office space

Satterfield: The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

Bob: Don't... don't care?

Satterfield: It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Nebraska scores a few extra TDs, I don't see another dime, so where's the motivation?

It's getting toxic

Truth hurts man. I didn't say he didn't not have talent. He is not a 5 star QB. Not yet and not close. He can get there the kid is very talented.

The OL is a bigger problem than the WR but it is a close second.

For sure, it is a very common practice and probably something they were doing anyway. And I agree they should know what changes need to be made anyway; Rhule is just using this to pass the buck and avoid the question for the time being.

Hopefully whatever consultants he’s bringing in are looking at the entire operation, not just the offense. Change in OC may not be enough to turn this around next year.
