Week 11 Press congerence

Week 11. What a sad thought. Wait all off season to see watch this team. And where they are right now. Season could be over in 2 games.

Any chance we could retain Dana Holgorsen as OC after this season? He is just here this season for now, right?

What's sad about this year, is has been chalked full of mental errors non stop, Everyone want's to blame lack of talent which is so far from the truth. Mental errors cost us in all 4 of our losses and made sooo many mental mistakes against Indiana it turned into a landslide and then blowout. The mindset thais team has sorely lacked, is to win a game 3 elements have to be present without fail . Wanting to win, having to win and believing you'll win. Mistakes cost us bigtime as that Ohio St game was ours, UCLA was ours, USC was ours, Illinois was ours. The last 4 and poor officiating had a very big hand in all 4 of those losses but our mental mistakes were just terrible as we froze like we didn't know how to over come it.

DH's comments on perimeter blocking also make me wonder if the coaches watched any film on the veteran portal receivers they brought in or if they just looked at stats. If its as bad as it sounds, its not like they just got terrible at it after they joined NU.

100% true! I have done that before too.

I found it easier to come in new. Be demanding, be a hard ass, and see everyone through clear eyes. It gets tougher after a couple of years because you start to develop players with a vision of what they could become and what role they could fit and aren't necessarily seeing them for what they are right now anymore. If that makes sense.

This actually pisses me off in a major way. All of Rhule's mouth service and a new coach comes in and says "you won't play if you don't block" and all of a sudden it's better. It just tells you there has been zero accountability or competition in this program. The losers that have been playing just keep playing and feel entitled to do whatever they want with no consequences. THIS IS WHY WE CONTINUE TO BE A LOSER PROGRAM.

If he is looking for another Head gig would be the only reason he wouldn’t be retained. Otherwise he wouldn’t come anywhere 4 games if there wasn’t kind of a deal in place. He is not in need of Money ( Houston buyout) . What OC wouldn’t want a QB like DR .

This right here ^^^ I've been saying this over and over again as well as stating that the only one that that can teach that on an elite level is currently on staff and would be Ron Brown. When he coached receivers under Osborne, his receivers every year were the best blocking and hardest hitting in at that time all of DIV I. I used to love watching his receivers destroy DBs on a more than regular basis and hell they even destroyed LBs at times. People remember the the bone crushing block Kenny Bell dished out to Wiscy's DB in the B1G Championship, well those kind of blocks are what Brown's receivers used to dish out on a fairly regular basis. I just wonder why Brown wasn't placed in that role this year. He doesn't have to coach the receivers, just teach them to hit and block but the receivers have to have the mentality that his did. It's my will against yours, and you will lose. I actually think Holgerson and Brown would get along very well as they are of the same menatlity and mold.

Everyone wanted to put down Frost and rightfully so, but there are things he did inside the culture one of which was telling his players the same thing that Holgerson told these guys NO BLOCK, NO ROCK at least Frost's running game was light years ahead of this year. Last year with basically the same players and same line, we led the B1G up until the last 2 games in rushing and were nationally ranked. Now along comes Dylan and the offensive philosophy changed including the blocking schemes of the OL to accomodate a NON RPO QB in a pro style system.

"Why are you not blocking? It's embarrassing."

Quite an indictment of the WR coaches, as well as the players.
Some of it has been the crappy holding calls they received earlier this year. They’re afraid to latch on like they have to. It’s a fine line between getting called for holding and executing a block on the edge.

For sure! Once you know them it is hard to be objective as it is with anything.

Elevating expectations. Satt is probably too nice…. Dana isn’t afraid of hurting anybody’s feelings.
I actually thought a lot of that was technique, mainly failure to drive the feet. You stand still and grab a guy - holding. You grab the guy while you're driving him backwards 5 yards - good block.

Rhule has said multiple times that this change wasn’t just about this year. It was about laying the foundation for next year too. I’m sure there’s at least a verbal agreement in place for next year.

Probably with the caveat of "unless I take a HC job."
