It's the nostalgic effect. It's just like how we all wish we could go back to our childhoods. We remember the good ole days. People remember the days of Nebraska being a power. Winning with the option, wishbone, walkon program, weight lifting advantages. The days where Kansas State, Iowa State were walkovers. Heisman winners like Eric Crouch.
Facts are the downfall began long before 2011. I think it began the day Colorado dismantled Nebraska in Boulder. Then Miami took that option attack apart in the National Title game. The mystique was smashed. The bullies got punched. Solich wasn't going to win a title. Then you hired a west coast NFL mind, he recruited well because of his NFL pedigree and the brand still being strong. But Nebraska officially lost it's identity that day. It's never gonna be the way it was, the option attack will never be a viable offense for title contention. There will never be another Big 8 from the same region. Recruiting isn't even regional anymore. Florida, Texas, California are all getting picked apart from schools like Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson. It's not about what it was. Kids have smart phones, social media, access to streaming services where all forms of entertainment are available. You can live in New York and stream a game in Hawaii. The 90's are never coming back.
You can visit it by watching old videos. But you can't ever live back there again. Move on.
