We just got hosed.

The refs weren't great, but didn't cost Nebraska the game. We had our opportunities. Running the ball right up the gut late and not being able to tackle a backup running back cost Nebraska the game as much as anything
Beg to disagree, when BIG TEN officials cannot even do a basic spotting of the football on forward progress, that's a trainee mistake. These officials were lazy and out of position a good part of the game. The Umpire and Referee are suppose to clean up the play from behind, not once did I see these guys follow thru. This officials are suppose to mark the ball where it goes out of bounds and turn to make sure the players are protected out of bounds and no-one gives them the business, or a late hit, or tackled in the side zone. These officials failed.
Banderas was tackled on the first overtime play by #65, good wrestle throw down. Utter got called earlier in the game for holding, which was a joke, Utter plain got knock on his bum and the DT tripped over him, the umpire did not see the whole play. A basic rule of officials, you don't call holding if you don't see the whole interaction between the two players. Not saying Huskers wouldn't have won the game, but the interference by Wiscy was real on Westercamp, there should have been multiple flags on that event. Those officials only wanted to get off the field, if you watched, the BJ was coming forward and stopped, then turned. He knew! The only question was, called PI would the Huskers score or not from this spot? Chances were very good.

We got a bit of a rough deal but harping on it is bad optics IMO. Shock the horseshoe and everything is stil in reach.
Bad optics? Once again, I guess I forgot that we are the only fan base in the entire country that complains about officiating. No other fanbase in the entire country has ever said they were done in by poor officiating. Only Nebraska. So yes, I guess we need to get this "bad optics" out of our system because it is really making us stick out in the world of college football with all of those other fanbases who always accept every single officials call as legitimate and right.

Sorry but calls like that at times like that matter most. We can sit around all day and say we shouldn't be in that position but at the end of the day we were playing a good team in a tight game, calls like that must be made.

The game isn't a level playing field when that pi was missed at the biggest moment during the game..

I'm not saying the refs weren't bad, but Nebraska also didn't do itself any favors with some play calls and a couple of missed plays on a backup RB. Game was still there to be won. Move on to next week and beat a suddenly mortal looking Buckeye squad!

Well one things for sure, no way we count this team out at Ohio State next week. Tough loss tonight for sure, and Westy was clearly hit and a flag should have been thrown, but very proud of how they played and the composure in a tough place to play.

No doubt. All of Husker Nation are upset.

This is what I can't stand. Why can't some people just say that an officiating call or officiating in general was bad enough to affect the outcome of a game? Call a bad call for what it is, period. Why must some people always excuse it by saying we could have done things to overcome it? We shouldn't have to overcome bad officiating. What you are doing is excusing poor officiating but not excusing our team. In other words, the officials are forgiven but our players and coaches aren't. Why do people care more about protecting the officials than their own team? People will go to the wall for the men in striped shirts but have no problem with criticizing their team? Who is it you really care about?

Bad calls happen. Great programs don't harp on them. I believe we are on the path to being a great program once again, so I'd prefer that we don't get too caught up on the bad officiating segway. This program is on the upswing. The missed PI is a very small speed bump. Much like the team, I am moving forward. HUGE game next week.

Nebraska has benefited from missed calls in games. It's part of the game, yeah it sucks, but it is what it is.

Great programs don't harp on bad calls? Were we not a great program in 1982 with the infamous odd shaped field at Penn State? People still complain about that one. And I don't know how much you pay attention to other teams' fan bases, but everybody complains about bad calls, and many do more than we do. I have Facebook friends who follow college football teams all over the country, including Alabama and Ohio State. They harp on bad calls just like we do. Are they not great programs?

And I'm quite sure you were quick to point those out too and not excuse them and say the team who they were called against could have overcome them. Because that's the way things are supposed to be on here I guess-bad calls against our opponents are inexcusable, period. Bad calls against us suck, but it's part of the game, and we should have overcome them, anyway.

Do you really think this call was like 1982? Not apples to apples IMO. I think they missed this call, but I guarantee you that their wil be a more egregious and critical missed call in tomorrow's NFL games. It's part of the game and part of the home field advantage. What are you going to do about it but move on to next week?

I didn't say it was as bad as 1982. What I am saying is cut the BS about "great programs don't harp on bad calls". Everybody harps on bad calls. Because we do it certainly doesn't mean we aren't a "great program". And you say it's part of the home field advantage? So getting homered is OK?

i don't think they called it because Westy flopped. if he would have kept running, the call would have been made.

You would be amazed at how often tOSU has been "helped" by the officials in games and in games that they would/could have lost had they not gotten help in the last 15 years. Yes Since Tressell. tOSU gets help from the zebras quite often and they have won games because of some calls by the zebras as well. Leaves me cold hearing people make asinine comments likee "Oh well we should have made more plays to win" blah blah. tOSu has been helped quite a bit by the zebras which would have otherwise cost them a natty or two had they not gotten "helped".

You dont miss that type of egregious call that late in a game in that type of situation. This was not some ticky tack handsy play that was done on the sly where a ref could have missed it, it was done middle of the field plain as day and EVERYONE in stripes saw it, and REFUSED to throw the obvious flag. That is shady more than just incompetent.

Lol, the problems is PSU doesn't show the calls that went in there favor.

PSU probably thinks they actually beat OSU last week without any officiating assistance...
Had you watched the game, you would have seen that our DL dominated their OL in the second half. instant replay is a direct result of the refs totally screwing Penn State out of 5-6 games against OSU and UM. I mean on calls that no one could defend. At one time 80+% of thr refs came from Ohio and Michigan.

JT Watts bro f$$king tackles Westy mid route. We get that call we win. Utter bs

Help me here. Are you saying Watts "tackled" Westy on the play in question? I have watched it over and over and at the very most he touched him with his left hand, Westy was stopped either to settle or was trying to get a call before he even got to Watts. To me it doesn't matter either way. The call wasn't made and teams don't dwell on what they can't control. I just wasn't sure which play you were referring to.

I hate to say it, but that's probably true. It was a weak flop.
Same crew back to revel in the teams loss, with ridiculous claims. Raise your hand if you are surprised the roaches have come back!

Don't get it twisted, it should've been called PI. It was just a soccer-style flop. Still robbery along with the billion and a half no-calls on what should've been holding on Wiscy OL.

Penn State warned us.

Welcome to the BIG.

Just 4 yrs removed from a game in Lincoln where the replay official refused to see lehman clearly across the goal line and our quarterback being told by a certain official that he should just feel lucky to be even playing..........

Ohio State harping on bad calls. Oh that's rich.

Did not see the game, so will rely on feedback. Was this screw job as bad as the screw job you got in Bloomington? Is it as bad as the screw job you will get vs OSU or the game after that? Really sucks that the BIG has it in for Neb so badly.

The same PSU that beat OSU because of a blown PI call last week? Lol

Come on, PI calls get missed all game long. Can't blame this on one call. It was a tough hard fought game, and Nebraska proved to be a legit top 12 team.

No, the same PSU team that sacked JT "6 times" and harassed him all night. The OSU WR let the ball hit him in the helmet, so there is no way he was catching that one anyway. He didn't have a clue where the ball was!

Welcome to our world, guys. The Big Two, and the rest of us. And for good measure, when the opportunity presents itself, they take care of the old guard when they can.

The rest of us? Pfft.
Uh, you need to add Wisconsin to that list with the big two.

Lol, let it hit him in the face mask? Not because the PSU db grabbed and held his arm...You are a perfect example of PSU fans that claim a ref bias simply because you ignore the calls PSU gets.

There was also a missed facemask on OSU on the same play that would have offset the PI call. You have no idea what would have happened if they called PI... PSU was dominating and likely still wins. Regardless, it was a questionable call, they do occasionally go in Penn State's favor, you're delusional if you don't think PSU fans realize this. PSU won that game fair and square, unlike how OSU stole the game from PSU in 2014. What we complain about all the time are the blatantly bad calls that are obviously wrong, like bouncing passes, missed expiration of the play clock, and of course this:

Nebraska fans can at least take comfort in the fact that they rank ahead of someone in the conference.

PI was not called in that game, for either team, all night long. After not calling it for 58 minutes, I would have been pretty pissed if they flagged it in the last 2. Consistency is good, even if it's consistently bad.

NO call on the PI?

Refs missed 2 PIs on us that were big plays. One was on third down and forced a punt while wisky was moving the ball. The other occurred on an interception in the 4th quarter. I would say the refs were good in that they let the kids play. Wisky just beat us, our d was worn out and they continually moved the ball in between the 20s. We couldn't do that consistently because they were better. We had to get 15-20 yards, twice to win the game and we couldn't get 15-20 yards. Just a little over matched on offense.

Where did all these pedo state fans come from? Having you on my home board makes my skin crawl, please go away.

I was wondering why he didn't speed up to create a very noticeable collision, instead of just slowing down.

Was wondering the same thing after I went back and watched it again. It's hard to say because Westerkamp does so much already, but he really could have gotten the flag IMO if he caused a more noticeable collision, as you mentioned. He did seem to slow up and just fall down.
