We got our 4-star RB!! Dante Dowdell is N!!

If what I read is accurate, he was #3 on the RB list. I didn't read anything about injuries but may have missed that.

So my question is if he is a good as advertised, how good are those two Oregon backs ahead of him?
He was a true freshman last year correct?

Dowdell was a true frosh, yes.

The players ahead of him were:
1. Bucky Irving, heading to NFL draft. He transferred from Minnesota, where he was called Mar'keise Irving.
2. Jordan James, will be a third-year junior in 2024. He was a four-star recruit in the 2022 class.
3. Noah Whittington, will be a fifth-year junior coming back from injury. He transferred from Western Kentucky in 2022 after two years in Bowling Green.

They added a rb from NW Missouri State who was 1st team D2 All-American too.

The little bit I watched Oregon this past year, their RBs looked extremely good. He probably would have played more this fall for the Ducks but has a chance to be the featured back for us. Who really knows why he left Oregon?

His Senior film: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13149690/638bbfecd225fa0940530b52

Looked like a man among boys. Opposing players were often afraid to tackle him, can't say I blame them.

Ran in an I formation offense, very well executed. Loved the ISO and quick toss. Some offset I and a split back or two sets.

Balance is his game. Makes his cut and goes upfield when he sees the opening, no dancing around.

Doesn't have blazing speed, good speed to go with his size.

Doesn't avoid contact, one play he could have gone outside but took on the safety going low.

Did he ever catch a pass?

Does this tell us where Rhule is wanting to take this O with the QB, RB and WR selections. Seems to be all big bodies. Maybe the speed Slot receivers and RBs are already on campus. Downhill game.

This is where the naysayers are misplaced. They act like he is garbage because he wasn’t RB1 on a top 10 team his freshman year.

Good question. One thing that is promising is that he's just a year removed from being a top 10 rated back and that he is healthy. He didn't get much playing time and sometimes that is a sign that a prospect is a bust or at least not as good as advertised. But in this case, it may be a matter of just being behind two older highly rated HS four star backs and a transfer RB. And two of those guys are coming back. As far as how good those three are, I wouldn't be surprised to see all three of them on NFL rosters. The one who declared for the draft is an early projection to the 3rd round and he was the backup before another guy got hurt.

And it sounds like he would have been willing to stick around but they wasted his redshirt and he didn't want half his career gone before he could realistically compete for a starting role. Perfect example of why it often makes little sense for high end recruits to go to a stacked position room.

Ahh. There was CO thread on the Insiders Board that I saw your name in the headline with. Thought it was you looking. 🥴

Well Colorado would probably not be at the top of my list so no. Now that I think about it no sure where we could move....I get the subtle dig it's all good.

Buena Vista area of Colorado is beautiful. I think that Pagosa Springs was the town mentioned. I’ve never been there. I looked a little bit at property in Colorado and just decided it would be too far to make owning something make any sense. Happy trails.

Take the grandkids to Estes Park😉

Pagosa Springs is a pretty area. Been awhile since I’ve been there. Fairly close to the 4 corners.

Estes Park is an easy drive from most of Nebraska. Buena Vista is northwest of Co Springs a couple of hours. It’s a little harder to get to but lies in a beautiful valley surrounded by the snow capped Collegiate Peaks. Rafting, hiking, fishing etc.

Estes Park is at the east gate of Rocky Mountain National Park and has kid friendly stuff. Go Karts, mimi golf and a beautiful drive to above tree line. Bighorns, elk etc.

Agreed. Dowdell is a damn good pickup. We needed a "hammer and fist" type of RB and now we have one. I've been critical of many of the past transfers NU has taken because they were coming off injuries and sometimes injured when we took them. I think you only take guys like that if your HS recruiting and player development is a joke (see Frost, Scott). But this kid is young, all the tread is still on the tires and he'll be 100% ready to go for winter conditioning.

My wife and I lived on the Front Range (Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder) for 23 interrupted years (1990-2009, 2013-2017). Our favorite getaway towns were Salida and Ridgway.

Salina’s a cool little town. I’ve rafted the Arkansas a couple of times and camped once at that campground at the head of the Royal Gorge.

Salida has gotten super expensive, like pretty much everywhere in Colorado west of Fort Morgan and Lamar.
I looked at buying a ranchette north of Buena Vista about 10-15 years ago. It was expensive then. They had some new townhouses and condos in Buena Vista back 15 years ago and I imagine that place has exploded in growth. ☹️. People can really screw up a beautiful little town.

Oregon took 2 RBs in its 2023 class. The other true freshman played much more than Dowdell last season
Jayden Limar was the other four-star top 20 back from 2023.

Limar played in 7 regular-season games and carried the ball 24 times for 109 yards, 4.7 ypc. He caught 7 passes for 64 yards, or 9.1 ypc.
Dante Dowdell played in 6 regular-season games and carried the ball 17 times for 90 yards, 5.3 ypc. Dowdell caught 0 passes.

That's more for Limar. "Much more"? That's hyperbole.
