Do Memorial Stadium next!!!!

we should be investing every penny we can into the health & safety of our players

Coach Rhule gets it, much to the chagrin of the many haters & losers
Coach Rhule, man. The guy just gets it.

imagine thinking Nebraska - home of literally America's Grassland - can't sustain a natural turf surface

can't wait until Memorial Stadium tosses that bullsh*t plastic into the garbage heap

The problem is going to be trying to keep it in decent shape in October and again during spring ball.

Well I hope they aren't planting sideoats grama and little bluestem for our practice fields. So having a large, intact grassland in our state isn't really applicable.

you can't honestly believe the grass that goes down on Aug 1 is the same grass the team will play on in Nov

it's not the backyard
You put 100 college athletes on a practice field 5 days per week and I don’t care how much overseeding you do. It’s gonna be a compacted chewed up mess to maintain if we have a wet fall or spring . Just playing one game per week can wreak havoc on a grass field late in the year. I’m sure we’ll have our best groundspeople on it but it won’t be without problems. I’m not saying I’m against it.

They resurface it

Frequently

Like I said you cannot be that daft to believe the same surface exists Aug-Nov

It’s 2023 and we’re Nebraska. Leave the seeding to the purdues of the world & get a clue

I was specifically talking rossade. They resurface purdues grass practice field. Then they also have a turf field next to it and an indoor turf field. All connected to the training facility with a new tunnel connecting to the stadium. Well, it's not a tunnel yet. Plenty of options.

A few things surprised me about moving back here after many years in California. One is growing grass. After struggling to maintain a lawn in SoCal I couldn't wait to get back here where you just put a big sack over your shoulder, sow the grass seed, and it grows. I mean, this is the Great American Desert right? If nothing else grass should be no problem, right? Turns out it is harder to get it to germinate and grow here because in SoCal I had full sprinkler coverage. Here I planted grass two falls now and some of it germinated and lived, and some didn't

you can only do so much with dirt under the grass. I don’t care how much you aerate, water, replace sod etc. You can’t be so daft to not understand that.

Didn’t we just put in new field turf?

I would think it will be awhile before Osborne field is natural grass field regardless of practice fields moving toward grass fields..

Rhule wants it. pennst is natural grass at basically the exact same northern latitude as Lincoln.

it's unquestionably safer for our players.

I use this from Nebraska turf..in old millard

and their 6 step program

Real bluegrass the way to go

As dry as it has become, that irrigation system better be a good one.

Hope we get more moisture this month before the heat of the summer sets in.
1.3 inches yesterday but Omaha had the driest May on record and Lancaster County and Lincoln are in an exceptional drought for the first time in history. Need a lot more rain soon.

Just curious, how old and how much did the turf cost?

We’re one week from opening fall camp, shouldn’t be too long before we see half the finished facilities..

My guess is they‘ll wait till everyone reports and we may see something with the players touring it for the first time this coming weekend..
