Vennables next head coach

Throw the bank at Chip Kelly. When he says no, I'd seriously look at Jeff Brohm. He is one of the most innovative offensive minds in the game, and will be coaching a big-time program soon. He'll probably win more games this year at Purdue than Riley will here.

I was just looking into some stats. While head coach at Western Kentucky, Jeff Brohm had the #6 ranked scoring offense in 2014, #3rd ranked scoring offense in 2015, and #1 scoring offense in 2016. That's intriguing no doubt. Especially if he can duplicate that success at Purdue in year 1.

Gundy would be a good hire - but need a B1G $$ for a good DC - aka not Iaco.

Doubt we're going to see any change in the coaching staff. It's possible, but I guess you could say we're still a program in transition. We need to figure out a QB quickly. From what I saw today, these aren't just rookie mistakes. But in terms of cleaning house with the coaches, I would think Riley gets a few more seasons. Like it or not, this is Nebraska football for a while.

would Nebraska consider one of these coaches?
1. Dan Mullen HC Miss. State-Not the nicest or friendliest guy but has done great things at MSU.
2. Chad Morris HC SMU-Offensive genius who could recruit Texas. With Nebraska's resources and fan support he could be a homerun hire.
3.Gary Patterson HC TCU Great coach with solid track record. DOn't know if he would leave TCU but I would make him tell me no.
4.Justin Fuente HC VA. Tech Excellent young coach. If could bring Bud foster with him it would be a slam dunk hire.

If you are serious about winning, go throw a lot of money at Gundy. He has flirted with leaving before.
Gundy ain't leaving T Boone Pickens oil money for this dumpster fire. Chip Kelly would be an insanely good hire. As would Les, I think the only reason we have a shot for Les is Ben though.

Yes, yes, yes, yes

They don't like each other. You're right, it won't happen because we don't spend money here.

If a change was made, I think Venables is the wrong approach. Go get an innovative offensive coach, imo. Heck, even keep Diaco our D has some young talent and is improving. We have enough talent on offense to score points under a system like Brohm or Gundy run.
Get rid of Diaco. What has he shown to keep him around?

Chip Kelley, Bob Stoops, Scott Frost are my top 3. Chip Kelley is the most innovative offensive coach in the game. Why does everyone think he will say no? We have to ask at least, and I think we'd have a good chance at landing him. And I still believe Nebraska is one of the top coaching jobs in the country. We're at least on the level of Florida if not above them. We should have our pick of the lot of some very good available coaches this year.

Riley is going no where so I don't know why you guys are even talking about it.

Every time we have a possible coaching vacancy, fans start in with the Chip Kelly, Jim Tressel, Bob Stoops, Gary Patterson, John Gruden nonsense. NONE of those coaches are coming to Nebraska. Patterson is the only even remotely possible one in the list, and he's said no to the Huskers at least a hundred times already. We are NOT going to get a coach like that at Nebraska. Why not, you ask? Logic, that's why.

Look at a map of where all the recruits come from in this country. Then put a little star on the major-conference football programs within 200 miles of those recruits. THAT is where these coaches want to go, if anywhere, and that isn't Nebraska. UCLA, USC, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. Why? Because they have the talent, which you need to win.

Look at the current Top 25. All are in the population belts except Mississippi State (#17), Washington State (#18), and Louisville (#19). And there is no secret both Mississippi State and Louisville take certain...uh...LIBERTIES with qualification and discipline issues. On that list, only Washington State and Utah (#23) have situations similar to Nebraska.

A young coach like Scott Frost (or Zac Taylor) might be Nebraska's only real hope, because of a connection to the program. He'd at least give us a sniff where some other young coach (like Major Applewhite) probably would not. And he might actually stick around if he found success. And there's no guarantee Scott would accept an offer even if he got one, because he probably hasn't forgotten the booing, or the previous job snubs, from before.

So Nebraska can offer Scott Frost, or they can get about 15 million people to move to the state so there are actually some recruits. Either way.

If a change is made, my top 3 would be my Scott Frost, Dan Mullen, or Ken Niumatalolo.

LOL.....You cannot be serious. This is not 1994. JC.

Good gawd please not Patterson.

It's really too early to have this conversation because if they manage to get to a 6-6 record I would imagine he has a better than average chance of staying.

If that doesn't happen history tells us that our options will likely be more modest, on paper, than what many fans assume.

Names I would seriously look at would be:

1. Troy Calhoun - Arguably the most diverse offensive coach in the nation. Runs a more multiple option offense at AFA than what is run at GT or Navy. He was a pretty successful OC in the NFL. And he was an OC at WFU when they had the best offense in the ACC. It was a nice mix of pro style with a heavy run emphasis with some zone read and spread concepts. He could walk in and utilize the existing personnel and gradually move in the direction he wanted. He's done a nice job at AF.

2. Les Miles - he may not be perfect but the guy knows how to win. He won 69% of his conference games in the SEC in which during most of that time that league was in straight beast mode. I don't care what program that's at...it's an impressive record.

3. Greg Schiano - Proven HC and he now has current Big Ten experience so he would hit the ground running in terms of being familiar with the rest of the conference.

4. Scott Frost - If they have a nice season this year he should be an obvious candidate if he's interested.

5. Dan Mullen - might be a long shot but worth reaching out to.

My concern with the last two is that there would likely be a multiple season transition period in doing a 180 on offense yet again.
