Another thing to remember is when you add more teams and more games, the fans have more travel expenses. Traveling to multiple sites adds up. Can fans sustain the cost of going to every game as a team progresses through the playoffs? Some fan bases can but not all.
Will those that don't travel stay home and watch? Maybe, but the TV ratings were released today and there was a 12% drop in viewership from last year's championship game. The big crescendo of the first 12 team playoff ended with less viewers. In fact this was the 3rd lowest audience for a title game in the 11 years of the college playoff. All three have occurred in the last 5 years.
