Top Ten for Huskers next week?

Hope not. We really don't have a good win to deserve it. I would vote Tennessee above the Huskers.

We could, but I doubt it since we had the bye this week. Out of sight, out of mind, someone will probably leapfrog us.

I would rather us stay around 15 for now. If we get to 7-0 then see the top 10. I hate how polls move teams up just because they didn't lose. Teams get way too over rated when they do that. Im not sure but there was a team last year that they did this with, but can't remember who it was......

You don't want Nebraska to move up 2 spots because of a bye week but you're okay if we move back 3 spots?

What's wrong with moving up? I want to be as highly ranked as possible. Too much self-loathing on this board. If we would lose then someone on another board may call us overrated. Boo hoo. We just need to take each game one game at a time. Those other teams lost. We didn't. I'll take whatever they give us. GBR

Around 15. Im not saying that I want them to drop, but I want them to prove that they belong. They have 0 quality wins nor even close to a quality win so far. Illinois was their toughest opponent so far. Does that deserve a top 10 ranking just because they haven't lost yet? No not by any stretch. A win at Indiana (from what we have seen so far) will still not be a "quality" win but will be their best win of the season if they get it.

Exactly. The self-loathing from people really gets old. I can guarantee most people on here would have no problem whatsoever with another team with our same resume moving into the Top 10. I can't figure out why somebody would not want us to be ranked as highly as possible. People think way too much in terms of what happens if we lose-"oh, I'm not sure if we want to be ranked that high because if we lose it will be more embarrassing". How about what happens if we win? If we keep winning, wouldn't you want to be ranked as highly as possible?

If we lose then our ranking will be corrected. Keep on winning while others lose means moving up. If that means the expectations increase then BRING IT ON!

How many other undefeated teams have a quality win that we don't have? Like it or not, rankings have always been about wins as much as they are who you have beaten. If enough voters think we are good enough to be in the Top 10, I'm not going to complain.

I hate polls coming out before the 5th week of the season to begin with. I love moving up but just want to be sure thats where the team is belonging. 1-0 each week is the best outlook. Like you had said to me the other day Boxes, maybe I am still a little gun shy but I just don't see Nebraska being a top 10 team.

Seems Nebraska's absence from the polls in recent years has caused many fans to forget how the polls work. "Deserve" is not part of the equation. You lose, you drop. Teams move up by default all of the time and merit has nothing to do with it. The past few weeks, that's been Nebraska.

College football polls have long been the stupidest thing in sports. Fortunately we have entered an era (i. e. Playoffs) where the influence of these stupid polls is minimized and the results on the field actually matter.

Oh I agree with you on that. I'm a basket case filled with apprehension. But I think this team is better than the record we showed last year and we're better than many on here might admit. The only thing I really worry about is our injuries and lack of depth.

I think he means he would rather still see Nebraska under the radar instead on the bullseye of becoming a top 10 team going into next weekends game.
So what classifies as being "under the radar"? I mean if being "under the radar" is so important, why would anybody ever want to be ranked high? Would us being in ranked in the top 10 next week instead of say, 15th suddenly make us more of a target? I mean Indiana wouldn't really care if we were ranked 15th, but boy, they really want to beat us if we're top 10? Does being top 10 instead of 15th make a difference in how we play?
Seriously, we've been complaining for years about how too many people in the national media doesn't give us respect-now people give us respect, and some people don't want it?

Don't care too much about the polls rather still get this team healthy enough to beat a good Indiana team on the road.

Rankings are about "Name" too, and Nebraska still has a bit of cachet with the National press if we win. That said, I would rather stay out of the top 10 til we make it to 7-0, if we do make it.

Rankings sort themselves out by the end of the season, and I never get too much heartburn these days over them at this time of year.

The Oregon win has clearly dropped in importance, given the way the Ducks have absolutely caved since our win; however, undefeated is undefeated--i will take it and the rise in the polls along with it. Agree that Indiana will be a good test.

I'm not sure we're one of the 10 best teams in the country. I'm not sure we aren't either. Coming up with the top 4 or 5 teams in the country is pretty easy. After that, it's pretty murky. Most people seem to be OK with us at least being 15th. Is it really that clear cut that we're among the top 15 teams, but definitely not the top 10? I don't see that it is.

Even around 15 means we should move back at least 1 spot (to #13) therefore meaning we get punished for having a bye week.

My question is, who ranked behind Nebraska should be ranked ahead of us?

Baylor? Nearly lost to lowly Iowa St and their best win is against an average Okie St team.

Ole Miss? Good team but 2 losses so should absolutely not be ranked ahead of us right now.

Stanford? Again good team, but blown out and shouldn't be ranked ahead of an undefeated Nebraska team.

I'd argue that we should be ranked ahead of Houston. They just lost to an unranked academy team (who only attempted 5 passes all game) and who have they beaten other than an overrated Oklahoma team?

Are we the 10th best team in the country? Maybe not but given what we've done and what other teams have done so far it's hard to say that anyone who is currently ranked behind us should be ranked ahead of us.

Not to seem negative, but are really clearly a top 15 team? I would like to think so, but I am not convinced yet.

I remember the time when we lost we did not drop very far because we were definitely top 10, sadly we have a ways to go to get there again.

I would rather be underrated at this time of year as opposed to the opposite.

Who gives a rat's ass if we are 15,12 or 9. Doesn't make any difference at this point. Just focus on Indiana. That's gonna be a tough game! I don't think the Hoosiers give a shit what we're ranked.

I can see that. I doubt where a team is ranked (whether that be #10 or #15) at this point means too much to the opposing team.

Are we clearly not a top 15 team? I think it would be pretty difficult to definitely prove that we are not. As far as underrated and overrated goes, who knows what overrated and underrated are right now? That's why I don't mind if we're ranked as highly as possible, because who's to say we aren't deserving of that high ranking?

Miami is #10 with wins against Florida Atlantic, Florida A&M, Appalachian State and Georgia Tech.
Hardly worthy of anything up until tonight. You play the games on your schedule and if you're a power 5 and 5-0, you're worthy.
Enjoy it

You don't lose, you move up.If you do it enough in a row you set yourself up for hardware.See Iowa last year.while they were torch by Cowturd for the schedule, they climbed into the top 5 and a defensive stand away(Michigan State)from the playoffs.Yes, I understand the RoseBowl loss looked bad,but in a P5 conference, you apologize to nobody for the shambles some teams you play may find themselves in when you play them.
By the way when were we last in the top 10,holy crud it seems like ages ago.

Whether we "deserve it" or not, I'll have a big smile if I see us come in at #9, though I am struggling to find top 10 teams who are worthy....

Alabama, Ohio State, Washington, Clemson, Michigan, Louisville..... uhhh......... who else? Baylor with wins over nobody? Boise State with wins over nobody? Wisconsin's wins over LSU and Michigan State are looking about as legit as Nebraska's over Oregon, plus they have a checkmark in the L column.

I will go with yes, we deserve the top 10.

If a team lost they take a seat in the rear.I am sick and tired of the yearly SEC mulligans they get

Rankings don't mean a lot to me right now. If they did mean something to me, I would have to say that Nebraska can hang with anyone ranked #10 - #25. I really believe that. Go through those teams and ask yourself if it's possible to win/hang with them until the final whistle. Otherwise, let's wait until the CFP committee ranks the teams.

I think our "A" game (which we haven't seen yet) is probably the 8th to 15th best "A" game. I'd like to see us actually bring our "A" game for four quarters. We're a good team, we're improving as a program but we aren't where we need to be yet.

We're going to be ranked either 9 or 10, and we deserve to be in the top 10 based on the play so far. Teams move up quite fast if they're undefeated and that's the way it should be. If we lose, we'll probably move down quite a bit which is fair as well. I don't think we'll be top 10 by the end of the year, but right now we deserve to be.

Good grief...we are ranked where we are...sorry we didn't lose..,I swear our fans are ridiculous at times.....don't rank us to high...oh no.....wtf

The 20th ranked team in the country has 2 losses.

It's a good thing we don't have Peelini any more the last two times we were in the top 10 in 2011 we lost both games entering the top 10.
