True. But regardless of how smart of an academic and financial decision it was, many of us still didn't want to go to the B1G. In hindsight it really didn't matter, though, seeing as every conference is now a muddied-up shitshow, or soon becoming one.
I can understand wanting to stay in the Big 12, that's NU's home and a better cultural fit, for sure. I don't think Nebraska fits in well with the B1G at all. It's exacerbated by the fact that they can't win football games in the conference. Losing to the likes of Northwestern and Purdue, even if the latter was respectable this year, is embarrassing.

And Iowa is not a rival. I don't care if they beat NU for 10 straight years, that's not a rivalry. Oklahoma is a rival. Not Iowa or even Wisconsin.

But that's just it. Nebraska is a blue blood that was brought in specifically for football. It certainly wasn't brought in for the Omaha media market or for academics. It was brought in to help change the perception of the B1G. So the conference would be seen as more competitive.

Instead Nebraska has actually added to the negative perception of the conference, and Michigan and OSU still have to carry everyone. Even moreso now because with two teams in the playoff, all the other schools get a cut of that money. (Yay socialism, I guess.)

If NU was dominating the B1G West and consistently playing for conference titles, that'd be one thing. But it isn't. Not even close.

In fact, the only time the B1G thinks about Nebraska is when the home teams figure out who their opponent will be for homecoming.

this is wrong

if you listen to any B1G brass interviewed, Nebraska is the 3rd name they mention every single time when relaying the power of the league

kevin warren, barry alvarez, all of them

landing Nebraska is the biggest thing the B1G has done in its history & all involved will happily boast about it when asked

the B1G is a business & Nebraska is great for business (obviously, just look at revenues since the day we joined). on-field success has never been the league's top priority

I was more talking about its fans or the individual schools. I'm sure the corporate offices like having Nebraska. Because despite the team sucking they still draw ratings.

And on-field success does matter to the conference. Especially today. That's the main reason Nebraska was brought in.
