This is a much more reasoned post, but not what you led with. I’m not arguing for butler to be the coordinator. I’m saying this year’s db performance shouldn’t be why he’s not. Go get the best guy. You make a strong case that’s not butler.

Gotta admit, didn’t think the first coaching change rumor we’d hear would be White

I think Tony White is someone who can't see the forest for the trees. He's so focused on moving to the next level and being a HC that he may end up sabotaging his own chances. The best thing for him would be to be patient, settle down and stick it out another year here. But perhaps he's just not built that way. Sucks, but might be best for both parties to move on instead of serving as a constant distraction.
Meh. His family has probably read this board. You always want to get the next contract before they axe your head coach.
The two are very connected in my opinion. Meaning if you are going to take a big risk on Butler as DC next year, then you must be able to point to the instant positive impact he brought to his position group this year.
And the rumor in this thread is he's going to Florida State? Pretty sure their head coach has a much hotter seat than Rhule.
The career path of our assistants working for coaches we’ve fired hasn’t been good. FSU fired assistants seem to land on their feet. He might be tired of traveling coast to coast for recruits too. Who knows. After last year, I’ll believe he’s gone when he’s actually gone.
Tony’s seat got very hot after that Indiana game. The aftermath of that weekend might have made him decide to git while the gittin was good.
And he may not have liked Rhule bringing in Phil Snow to look after him.
Did you not read this board? People were extremely pissed at the way Indiana ran over top of his D. This following the breakdowns in the redzone that cost us the Illinois game. Did you talk to any boosters of substance after Indiana. Rhule, Satt and White have been under tremendous pressure. One poster on here claimed after UCLA that the money was there to buy Rhule out and if Rhule went so would his staff.
He’s always had good defenses and DC’s. Don’t want to lose White, but think Rhule would find a good one.

White is clearly our best coach. Had a bad game against Illinois. I have no idea why people are so down on him this season. But the way people talk on here you'd think he was Bob Diaco. I'd get the hell out too if I were him.
Same with Robinson as a player. I don't get the hate.
Then he's going to be looking for his next job pretty quickly, because Norvell is going to get fired next year
Novel Idea: We should want assistants here who are sought after constantly. If you don't have that, then you have Satt, Foley, McGuire, etc.
Aside from Indiana game, the D has been somewhere between great and pretty good. The offense on the other hand has been sputtering all year. So has special teams.
But for some reason Rhule decided to put both offense and defense on equal notice by publicly bringing in outside eyes just as soon as he felt fire under his ass. I thought that was odd at the time and it felt like he was trying to soften things for his buddy Satt by throwing TW under the same scrutiny.
It seems like it was just for show because we haven’t heard jack squat about Phil Snow’s influence on the defense, but we definitely know what DH thinks. Perhaps that was a real problem for TW. Perhaps he told Phil Snow to F off. Perhaps Snow had nothing and TW just decided he was gone in that moment.
