Tony White and the 3-3-5 LMAO šŸ¤£

They show us right off the bat by going right after Hartzog. When we play him, there's not much we can do about it.
Play somebody bigger even if theyā€™re not as assignment sound. It was just too easy. They constantly got a 6ā€™5ā€ receiver matched up with him. That matchup alone was a major factor in the loss. Multiple first downs and a TD.

Itā€™s not all the players. We have a couple of weak players. Weā€™re playing one guy who looks like a 7th grader. Team after team finds our weakest guys and exploits them.
I don't like bashing players but that LB Thompson had a play where the back went through the line in front of him. Not only did he not fill the gap, but he let the guy run past him. Then he trips on his own two feet while he was jogging after him. Not long after that, he actually made a tackle-- albeit 5 yards out of bounds on the UCLA sideline.

Then why does Matt continue to match him up with them?
Matt doesn't match any DBs up with anybody else. It's the other team's OC who tries to get the right match ups.

I'm hoping that with Holgorsen, we're able to start getting identifying the other team's weaker players and go after them like other teams do to us.

Watch the draft. You will see what kind of athletes we have. Combined with a horrible .500 coach, you see the results. And it sure as hell isn't going to get better next year even with an easier schedule. Matt's magical 3rd season is not happening and should be quite comical to watch as this season has been. ( minus the Colorado game when the players and Matt actually seemed to give a shit.)

Theyā€™re double teaming the hell out of him. Itā€™s obvious as well that heā€™s playing through a knee injury.
I know that we don't have much depth in the DL when it comes to run stuffers, but for these last two games I would like to see us play an extra big guy in the middle. Two many LBs are not filling their gaps against the run. Just as well put a bigger body in that gap instead.

His size has always been a problem.

When he was hurt, we were even worse. There is no in-season fix available. Itā€™s been an issue all year. Illinois showed teams how to beat the zone. We canā€™t play man.

I'm not disputing that. Just saying it's been that case since day 1. Dude plays hard and has gotten his hands on a few bad passes for interceptions. But you can't fix 5'8. It's just a mismatch for smart OCe with big WRs and semi accurate QBs. Always have and always will be

The trend seems to be that when the defense needs to have a stop they canā€™t get one. The Ohio State game, UCLA, there are plenty of examples. The score was indicative of the game yesterday. USC is as poorly coached as Nebraska is.

Same as last year. A hallmark of Whiteā€™s defenses since heā€™s been here.

Rhule insisted we go to 4 man fronts in at least one game but I havenā€™t noticed if weā€™ve played with a true SDE. Think of this. We had Adam Carriker at a DE in a 4 man front. Iā€™ve listened to multiple former coach NFL analysts talk about how teams went smaller and faster to defense the up tempo passing attacks and now teams like Detroit have gone to a power run game cramming it down their throats.

Iā€™m not going to say a 3-3-5 wonā€™t work but you better have a couple of grown men at linebacker to stop the run. Not sure we have that.

I haven't really charted it, but it looks like all year we've been very right handed when we get to the red zone. I remember a few td's to the left side, but mostly to the right. Or at least that how I'm remembering the season.

Could be nothing, could be something.
Holgerson tried to score left but Raiola refused. Ha

What was his job though. In a 3 man front I think he has to take the QB.
It wasnā€™t a 3 man front.

LB has to be the QB player there. Butler is the force(pitch) player.

They got schemed pretty good there TBH though...being in cover 0 can lend you to that. Jeudy getting completely washed didn't help anything.
