Play somebody bigger even if theyāre not as assignment sound. It was just too easy. They constantly got a 6ā5ā receiver matched up with him. That matchup alone was a major factor in the loss. Multiple first downs and a TD.They show us right off the bat by going right after Hartzog. When we play him, there's not much we can do about it.
He tried on one crucial third down. Receiver shrugged him off like a high schooler and his 2nd grader little brother.Teach hartzog to hold the shit out of receivers. Worked for usc.
Then why does Matt continue to match him up with them? If MH is the best we have, then we are in serious trouble. And we are.To be fair, USC has outstanding skill guys on offense and their QBās run threat hurt us immensely. Hartzog had no chance against their 6-5 receivers.
I don't like bashing players but that LB Thompson had a play where the back went through the line in front of him. Not only did he not fill the gap, but he let the guy run past him. Then he trips on his own two feet while he was jogging after him. Not long after that, he actually made a tackle-- albeit 5 yards out of bounds on the UCLA sideline.Itās not all the players. We have a couple of weak players. Weāre playing one guy who looks like a 7th grader. Team after team finds our weakest guys and exploits them.
Matt doesn't match any DBs up with anybody else. It's the other team's OC who tries to get the right match ups. Then why does Matt continue to match him up with them?
I know that we don't have much depth in the DL when it comes to run stuffers, but for these last two games I would like to see us play an extra big guy in the middle. Two many LBs are not filling their gaps against the run. Just as well put a bigger body in that gap instead.Theyāre double teaming the hell out of him. Itās obvious as well that heās playing through a knee injury.
And you are likely his finest student so hurry on back to class then. No, but he teaches children so you should pay attention.
This is so true.Itās honestly the same as so many other college defenses, but some hate the ānameā.
His size has always been a problem.Iām saying that his size alone is almost a disqualifier. He had no chance against the size USC threw at him. He also let a WR get behind him in the endzone today.
When he was hurt, we were even worse. There is no in-season fix available. Itās been an issue all year. Illinois showed teams how to beat the zone. We canāt play man.His size has always been a problem.
Holla

Same as last year. A hallmark of Whiteās defenses since heās been here. The trend seems to be that when the defense needs to have a stop they canāt get one. The Ohio State game, UCLA, there are plenty of examples. The score was indicative of the game yesterday. USC is as poorly coached as Nebraska is.
It looks like they donāt play assignment football and are hunting the big play, then give up the big play.Same as last year. A hallmark of Whiteās defenses since heās been here.
It's a big shit sandwich and we all took a bite.GET THE F*** OUT OF DODGE!!!
Jimari Butler had some great plays...Zero pressure on the QB
I saw a lot of missed tackles out there. That counter play has people out of position a lot.
Butler was terrible on that option play towards the end of the game.Jimari Butler had some great plays...
Rhule insisted we go to 4 man fronts in at least one game but I havenāt noticed if weāve played with a true SDE. Think of this. We had Adam Carriker at a DE in a 4 man front. Iāve listened to multiple former coach NFL analysts talk about how teams went smaller and faster to defense the up tempo passing attacks and now teams like Detroit have gone to a power run game cramming it down their throats.I know that we don't have much depth in the DL when it comes to run stuffers, but for these last two games I would like to see us play an extra big guy in the middle. What was his job though. In a 3 man front I think he has to take the QB.Butler was terrible on that option play towards the end of the game.
Holgerson tried to score left but Raiola refused. HaI haven't really charted it, but it looks like all year we've been very right handed when we get to the red zone. I remember a few td's to the left side, but mostly to the right. Or at least that how I'm remembering the season.
Could be nothing, could be something.
I wrote in my notes that both Butler and Jeudy lost containment of USC's rb on that crucial play. What was his job though. In a 3 man front I think he has to take the QB.
It wasnāt a 3 man front. What was his job though. In a 3 man front I think he has to take the QB.
