Those of us who grew up with TO as the coach of our favorite team learned to decipher the seemingly nothing comments he made to understand they spoke volumes. Here are two classics from today that harken back to the old days:

"I think he'll be a good fit for Nebraska," Osborne said. "Right now, he's going to have to spend some time just getting to know people and observing the athletic department, deciding what he thinks needs to get done one way or another." Gee, I wonder what he think needs to "get done"?

"I think (Bounds and Green) did the very best they could to make sure they covered all the bases and got as much input as they could," Osborne said. "It was not a unilateral decision where one person went out and hired somebody with no other input." Bagged two with one shot.

We better hope Frost says yes. He is the only person who will unite the fanbase, or at least give us some consistency and a decent shot at competing.

He would walk here if we asked him to. He would send his wife and child on a plane but he would walk. Probably look like this when he got here.

Yup that’s how he speaks understated, no extra blab, just simple but potent.

hmm.

In addition to opening the checkbook, the new AD now has a great incentive to win across the board for athletics. Sounds like he isn't afraid of the challenge, which I like. I'd expect some changes internally somewhat soon and when I say internally, I mean his own AD staff.........how about starting with basketball, hint hint.

Yes, these means TO wants Frost!!!

I actually think Moos might aim higher than Frost (he got Leach to Pullman, WA). He might get turned down, but he mentioned in the press conference that all of the coaches he's hired have been "proven winners". The 2 main guys he hired at WSU (Leach and Kent) had a lot of head-coaching experience. Is Frost a "proven winner" yet?

Then again, he also mentioned that how they "fit in the community" is one of the most important factors he looks for in a coach. Frost would seem to fit that bill.

After a year and a half as a HC, he is the only coach who gives us a decent shot at competing? OK.

Heh, I don't think I've seen even "one" poster state that only SF gives us a decent shot at competing.

You're dreaming this BS up.

Part of me believes that he wants to coach at Nebraska while a part of me sees him not wanting the inconveniences that come with coaching at Nebraska
I see frosty as a competitor. I think he would embrace the challenges of a fish bowl type of environment. Hes done it before and succeeded.

How do we define a proven winner? How many wins per year? How often do they do they play for conference titles? Im interested to know Moos opinion on this.

58-19 a winning percentage of 75.32 in six years. Would you take that now? I guess you can be pissed the guy that hired him had a 83.6 winning percentage

Clearly you do not see the the hypocrisy of TO criticizing the unilateral, one man hiring committee with no input from others.

It is not uncommon to judge the process based on the results. I just think it is wrong. I just find it funny that people will bash Eichorst for the one man process, but if the one man process had been successful or had he hired who "we wanted" the process would have been fine. So in reality the process wasn't what is pissing people off, it is the result of the process. I get that, I just don't agree with it. Now we have a PhD, criticizing "the process" when he did the exact same thing, and he did the same thing with behind his boss's back.

Yeah, I think you are right. If Eichorst had hired a big, big name after a one man search nobody would be bitching. Well... almost nobody

Apples and oranges.

TO was at the absolute peak of his profession when he made the decision to ensure that a program with unbelievable success for over a generation stayed in tact. This has been proven to be a program that has little to no distinct advantage in the world of college football aside from the fact that they had developed an incredible program with a ridiculously successful culture.

SE was an AD that hired some guy.

I have no problem with SE being a one man committee. Hell, that's what he is hired to do, run an athletic program. I just think it's funny that we criticize TO for "criticizing" the process. Dear God, the worst interpretation of what he said can hardly be considered a criticism. And it's hilarious that people want to compare the two situations.

Heck if Riley would have been successful the process talk goes away. As I said, it wasn't the process, it rarely is. The one man hiring process has worked on some occasions and failed on others. The committee approach has been both successful and a failure. People just like to look back with all the info they have now and say, see I told you it was the process.

He was the football coach, not the AD. It wasn't his job to call a press conference and announce that Solich was taking over. You can spin it however you want, but he was a one man committee, with no input from anyone else and he made a decision that wasn't his to make. Period end of story.

If you don't see the Osborne comment as a criticism of the Eichorst hire than you are either blind or just being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative..

I think TO was calling out Harvey as much as he was calling out SE. But you're right, TO was as guilty as those two guys, albeit TO's choice being much more successful than either Harvey or SE's choices.

I don't recall though, did all of these choices ultimately have to be approved by the regents?

Correct. I was referring to the hiring of Eichorst.
