Disagree.... As much of a bonehead as he is, he was s good player and left is vulnerable at a tough spot...Gerry was not the difference in this game. He is considered a former Husker as soon as he was suspended. He doesn't even need to be brought up in the discussion by anyone.

You have to touch somebody to tackle them. We weren't even getting stops in 2 hand touch. Thanks Banker

No.... But I think it makes us better where we were the worst...Do you really think we win this game if he plays?
In all fairness malone is possibly the best route runner in college who catches everything thrown his way and jennings is good enough he took jalen ramsey's shhoes all day when we played florida...ramsey is one of the 3 best cb's in college. So thats some good competition at wr you guys were playing last night.Forget that... Our defense is awful ... Could we play farther off the receivers???
3. We can talk recruiting til the cows come home. All the talent in the world won't help if you don't have the right leadership. "Aw shucks" might get you a .500 record in the PAC-12, but it doesn't work in the NFL, and it is not going to work in the BIG 10.
This is beyond stupid. Leadership comes from players, not from a yelling and screaming had coach.
Absolutely they are expected to cultivate leaders, but the idea that the head coach can simply just yell and scream and dictate every move and everything will be great is asinine. I can guarantee you that anyone who feels that way has never led an organization. Great teams are led by the players, like we were under TO, not by tyrannical control freak head coaches.A major part of coaching is teaching and cultivating player leadership. And with a lack of player leadership, then the coaches have to shoulder that load. They ain't in that high a position just to recruit and call plays.

Check out the original post I quoted. "Aw shucks" might get you a .500 record in the PAC-12, but it doesn't work in the NFL, and it is not going to work in the BIG 10." Pretty clear what he's saying. But I guess it could just be me.I think you are the only one talking about yelling and screaming though. Maybe I'm misreading?
No.... But I think it makes us better where we were the worst...
I DO think we win of TA and Westy play
Good lord. I love every time the Huskers lose, all the football experts turned message board trolls respond with the same old garbage of firing the coach. Fire Solich, Fire Callahan, Fire Bo, Fire Riley. It's so simple to win if the coaches knew as much as I do.....
Nebraska was never going to win today in Tennessee vs Tennessee without their QB, best WR and all conference Safety. The fact the team had a shot to win this game, as late as it did, was surprising. And I'm confident they probably would have won without the injuries and suspensions.
While it wasn't always convincing, all in all, the coaches did a decent job this year to win 9 games and have the team in the hunt into early November. Bottom line is this team has the lowest level of talent in Lincoln since the pre-Devaney era due to the horrible recruiting of the Pelini staff. That's a fact. The starters are mostly serviceable guys with a handful (3-4) of all-conference type players sprinkled in. The depth, thereafter, is questionable at best. Is that Riley and company's fault? The greatest example is at QB. Fyfe is a great story that Nebraskans eat up. The walk-on that worked his rear off to one day start. And I applaud him but let's be honest, he is the worst QB I have ever seen play, let alone start, for the Huskers. You just aren't going to win versus a team like Tennessee with him as the QB. Is it Riley's fault that he inherited a team with a scout team QB as his #2 QB? And throw in injuries to Westercamp et al, the offense was screwed. Not much the OC can do when you have a QB that is so bad, the defense is loading the box every play because he (or a one-legged Tommy) can't throw the ball. On defense, there were an equal amount of holes, issues depth/talent wise. While the last few games were a set back, I thought Banker did a decent job through most of the season (and I'll be the first to admit I wasn't much of a Banker fan after last year).
I think Riley and staff took a reasonable step forward this year. They need to close out this recruiting cycle well to keep the momentum going and hopefully win 9-10 games next year because clearly there will be some question marks going into next year with the QB position.
Vol fan here. Hope you don't object if I give my opinion? Obvious Nebraska is not the same team without 3 of your most productive players. I certainly understand your frustrations. IMO, Armstrong was your biggest loss. Barnett, teed off all day without any expectation of holding the edge. Your QB played as well as you could expect but he was basically a stationary target. I know very well that we did not get Nebraska's best. I think both programs are obviously shells of what they once were. To be blunt and honest I do not think either coach can get either program to where they want to be. Both coaches are great people off the field but how many games will that get you? Just wanted to let you know I feel your pain.
No.... But I think it makes us better where we were the worst...

I know Pelini broke your heart, but let it go.... No where did I mention - or refer to - a yelling or screaming head coach. So yes, it's just you. This is beyond stupid. Leadership comes from players, not from a yelling and screaming had coach.
10. To make an impression; become felt or understood: The meaning finally sank in.Do we win if they weren't missing their 7 starters and playing their 4th and 5th string DT? Let that sync in.
But you did say his "aw shucks" can't get it done, a pretty clear message. No reason to back peddle now.I know Pelini broke your heart, but let it go.... No where did I mention - or refer to - a yelling or screaming head coach. So yes, it's just you.
When you watch the bowl games there are dozens of examples of where the head coach cultivates leadership in his organization (without yelling or screaming). And part of that is holding other leaders accountable.
Made me laugh10. To make an impression; become felt or understood: The meaning finally sank in.

I'd say their a damn good offensive team. Disappointed we didn't run the ball better compared to Missouri and Kentucky.
^^^ All of this, guys. This is exactly right. I was glad we were even remotely in that Tennessee game, and the reason why we lost is simply a difference in talent level right now. The OWH did a great write-up of the average level of talent out there, and because we had so many walk-ons starting and people injured, plus just general talent pool, we were completely outclassed.
Riley is a good coach. Most of the coaches he has working for him are good coaches. They need to RECRUIT and we need to see what happens over the next 2-3 years. That will show us a lot.
Everyone yelling about firing the coaching staff is not only over-reacting, they're stupid. You can't blow through coaches THAT fast, because if you do, no good coach will come here. On top of that, you have to give these guys a chance to really build players through a full 4 year cycle.
Im excited to see how we finish out this recruiting cycle, and hope for a top 20 class. A top 20 class this year and next year will go a long way towards putting us back up there in terms of great games against quality opponents.
Have a happy new year all! GBR!

Thanks for pointing this out, but we aren't a really good program anymore.Every team has injuries all year long and especially this time of year. Using the injury excuse to justify losses is never used by really good programs.
Which is why you have to recruit or develop depth. Good programs don't have to turn to walk-ons or play injured guys.Every team has injuries all year long and especially this time of year. Using the injury excuse to justify losses is never used by really good programs.

Exactly. Point to a good program that has withstood injuries. I bet you won't find them. Those that have are upper echelon. The key word is "good".
Not back-peddling at all - "aw shucks" isn't going to work. I was just reiterating that there was no mention of "a yelling and screaming head coach" as the right answer in my initial post. Not sure if it is a struggle with reading comprehension or your desire to misconstrue things for the sake of argument so I defer to whatever asinine post you have next....But you did say his "aw shucks" can't get it done, a pretty clear message. No reason to back peddle now.
