This would be a perfect game to get Wilbon some serious reps

I'd like to see us run cross 30 times in one game, before he graduates…just to see what he would do with a game of a proper amounts of carries.
I've thought for several years now that we should take that approach against Northwestern. Line up with a fullback and see if those pretty boys from Chicago can play 4 quarters of physical football. Don't try to outscheme Fitz and his high ACT team like Beck always tried to do.

So now we are holding things back? That makes sense. You are 1-2 and you are waiting to really explode. And you would know this how?

Every coach makes weekly adjustments and adds additional plays as the season goes on but I wouldnt call it holding things back.
If you think you've seen all the screen, counter, and sweep arsenal, you're crazy. And please tell me how this offense hasnt been good enough to be 3-0. Aside from absurd play calling in the 4tb quarter of the BYU game, they've been plenty good to win every game. Wilbon will be used more going forward.

WHile I agree with you in theory, Nebraska did put up 506 yards and 38 points vs. The Cats last season.

Riley's on record saying he wants the reps to go just one back. It won't surprise me to see both Wilbon and Taylor transfer at the end of the season.

I've honestly thought that playing only 1 back will SEVERELY hurt recruiting... We'll see...

Wilbon will be a big part of the offense once the conference season begins. After years of Tim Beck, its a foriegn concept I know. But Riley and Landsdorf have actually held a lot of things back. Secondly, Wilbon is struggling a bit with pass protection. Terrell and Cross have been much better. As for Newby, he's a one cut and go running back. Riley prefers those types of runners in this system. He's not great in traffic, but the kid is a dynamic open field runner. Ideally, this offense is built to catch defenses over pursuing or napping so a back like Newby can rack up big chunks of yardage. Adam Taylor is actually the most complete back on the roster, but he's suffering from the Riley doghouse.
Wilbon is struggling with pass pro but a true freshman, Ozigbo, gets in before WIlbon? come on, there has to be more to it that just pass pro. BTW, I've watched Newby get plowed several times in pass pro. So if he's the best at it, he's decent but not great.

Unless Wilbon is in the doghouse for some unknown reason, there is no legit excuse for him being on the bench in the game today. S. Miss is terrible. this is a perfect game to give him some quality reps. If Newby goes down, who starts, Cross?

Very difficult to agree with this

Actually no, I don't.. Taylor Martinez was fast, Newby not so much. He doesn't look slow, but that's not really his issue anyway. I mean what good is your speed if you are tentative hitting the hole? It's almost like he doesn't have the vision or confidence or both. There are too many times when even the fans see it unfold right in front of you and it's like the kid doesn't see where to go and he is late to the hole and gets tackled easily. I think he's in there because he can pass block decently. Maybe he is a good practice player. I don't know. I'm just not impressed.

I agree he has other issues, but speed is not one of them. He's fast, and he's fast on film. That's all I was saying. I agree with pretty much everything else you said and have said it myself.

While the O has been much better than the D (understatement) they are not good enough or consistent enough win on a consistent basis. It could be argued that our O let us down against Miami. Against a terrible D today they couldnt punch it in several times. So how will you know when a new screen, counter and sweep arsenal shows up? I didnt get to watch much of the game today but it sounded like a true feshman was ahead of Wilbon. Explain.
